To be horrified that Israel is slaughtering children at a rate not seen for ober

1000 replies

ThisNattyTurtle · 22/03/2025 07:53

Israel killed more children in 15 months than were killed in all the conflicts of the world in the last 4 years combined. Israel is killing children again now at an unprecedented rate and the UK is supporting it with weapons, money and intelligence.
Israel is committing genocide according to the UN, Amnesty and Human Rights Watch. Israel killed 159 Palestinians, including children, during the ceasefire - only 1 Israeli was killed in that time and that was a soldier in a friendly fire event.

Mumsnet HQ there are at least 3 threads about Ukraine still on AIBU, and many other political ones. Please do not hide this topic away in the other section again without at least explaining why UK involvement in the mass slaughter of children is not worthy of the front page. We are supporting a regime much worse than Russia, as much as Russia's regime is awful.

What did you think of the kidnap and killing of the Bibas babies and do you know how they were killed?

As far as I am aware no evidence has been produced by either side to give a conclusive answer.

if it wasn’t for the dome, Israeli children would be slaughtered daily - Hamas have hidden themselves amongst civilians for this purpose. The shouting should be for Hamas to return the hostages but they don’t actually want a solution, they are terrorists intent on torturing and taunting Jews.

Israeli children have never been 'slaughtered daily'. Consistently year in year out Israel have killed more Palestinians including children. What you are saying bears no relation to reality.

Hamas would have returned all of the hostages by now but Israel didn't want to move on to the 2nd phase of the ceasefire. They chose to bomb children in their beds instead. If you care about the hostages you would want a ceasefire because that is the most successful way for hostages to be brought home. Bombing children in their beds for 19months didnt work then and it won't work now.

Well the UN previously had to admit that the figures it used (that also came from hamas) were completely unreliable so I'd hope that they've done some due diligence before parroting hamas propaganda again, but some how I doubt that they have

Can you link to that please?

You see I don't understand this attitude. Anyone with an ounce of humanity is appalled by the death of any innocent child. What puzzles me is that many dismiss the death of 200 Palestine children in a few days. It's just a number to some people.

I think most people with a brain are rightfully wary of the numbers that Hamas spout almost instantly. And many with eyes can see that most Hamas social media posts are nothing more than propaganda. Made up numbers, the same men and children acting in different roles for each scene...though shockingly too many 'respectable' news outlets taking the word of terrorists and publishing it as if its a reliable figure.

Strange that it takes civilised countries many weeks to gauge the death count of a single disaster/attack. But Hamas can tell you a specific number within a few minutes.

Perhaps they are just really good at counting?

jasflowers · 22/03/2025 09:19

Choughinthemist · 22/03/2025 09:14

What would have been an appropriate response when a group enter civilian homes and nurseries on a religious day knowing there will be less military and kill over a 1000 including babies. Then kidnap over 200 and not release them for nearly 2 years. Can you offer your appropriate response?

Yes a difficult one.

I initially supported Israel's response but it has gone far to far and is now achieving the opposite of their stated aims.
Hamas support is growing & so many hostages have been killed as a direct result of IDF bombing, even hostages who escaped shot dead by IDF soldiers, many Israelis draft dodging too, weakening Israels response to future attacks.

Killing 40k plus people is not an appropriate response.

MajorCarolDanvers · 22/03/2025 09:20

It’s awful. But let’s not pretend Hamas are good guys or completely overlook the thousands of children maimed, raped and killed in Sudan and other conflicts.

The conspiracies to justify what the whole world knows is genocide are just pathetic.

Btw people I know have been killed. They weren't acting.

It is always horrifying that children are killed in any conflict, on any side. For that I truly weep. They are the innocents and often used as shields, manipulated to participate, left as collateral damage. It's beyond belief of a civilised species.

However, I have no respect for the UN, which I believe started with the best intentions but has become nothing more than glorified suits patting themselves on the back but doing nothing. In which recent conflict have they actually helped?

The UN have obtained their figures from Hamas-led hospitals. Are these really figures to trust? Amnesty and Oxfam got their figures from the UN.

As I said, it's highly distressing to read about any children dying, but I don't believe Hamas are the innocents here and Israelis the perpetrators. It's really not that simple. Children on both sides have died. That's the real issue.

Nobody is saying Hamas are "inncoent", FFS.

I don't see what isn't simple to understand about the horrifying fact the Israelis are bombing and shelling Gaza to obliteration?

They don't spout them 'almost instantly' though. It took over 24hours for those latest figures to come out. And those figures are just the bodies recovered. Not the bodies buried under the rubble. Your whole post is based on fiction.

ThisNattyTurtle · 22/03/2025 09:24

@Choughinthemist I completely condemn the taking of hostages, by both sides, and prayed for the Bibas babies along with the Gazan ones. Israel of course had 400 child hostages in military jails in Sept. 2023, majority of them charged with throwing stones, the next biggest group (147).held indefinitely on administrative detention without charge or trial. Israel routinely abused these hostages - Save the Children report 2019, UNICEF OPT child detainees 2013, B'Tselem, Amnesty.

I don't see why Hamas would keep soldier hostages alive but kill babies. They wanted the hostages for leverage. I think it much more likely that they were killed by the indiscriminate 2000lb 'dumb' bombs dropped by Israel - which has the capacity to bomb one flat in a tower block but strangely choosing not to use it in this genocide.
This is backed up by this description from one of the freed Israeli hostages in which Hamas soldiers covered them with mattresses and then with their own bodies to protect them from Israeli shelling. Why would Hamas throw away leverage?

@Kianai good point. They are definitely not to be trusted. But we can see the destruction of property, so its inevitable the loss of life is happening all the time.

EasternStandard · 22/03/2025 09:25

ThisNattyTurtle · 22/03/2025 08:41

@EasternStandard Hamas did not break the ceasefire, Israel did. During the 'ceasefire' Israel killed 150 Palestinian men women and children (sniper shots and drones). Only one Israeli was killed and that was a soldier by friendly fire.
Netanyahu kept changing the goalposts of the agreement. Last week he insisted Hamas release all hostages immediately before the agreed on timeline, without fulfilling his end (allowing in humanitarian aid, tents for the displaced, and withdrawing his army from Gaza).

www.pbs.org/newshour/world/why-did-netanyahu-end-the-gaza-ceasefire

Hamas paraded those poor people who had been tortured and starved. At that time they could have released all hostages. There are still people held in likely barbaric conditions. Return everyone.

Letmecallyouback · 22/03/2025 09:25

FruitPolos · 22/03/2025 09:14

So all those children that have died were pointing guns at Israeli soldiers?

Is there evidence of this?

Did I say that?

ThisNattyTurtle · 22/03/2025 09:27

Oh and to the previous poster saying 'Palestinians are a religion of hate' no, Palestinians are the indigenous people of Palestine who are Muslim, Christian, Jewish etc. They didn't commit a Holocaust, that was European Christians (cheered on by our own royal family at the time). Palestinians initially welcomed the refugees from that Holocaust, going from 4% Jewish population to 30% in about 15 years. What Palestinians objected to was being driven out of their homes so a Jewish-majority state could be formed on half of their homeland. I don't see the UK or Germany giving up half their country to someone else, do you?

Suggest ask Hamas not to send out Palestinians as target practice - they’re training child soldiers, much to the horror of the Israelis who only want to finish terrorists off.

Israel only wants to finish terrorists off....
Do you really believe this nonsense?Indiscriminate killing and genocide are hardly the hallmarks of a carefully targeted military campaign.

Yes, that's what most right thinking people want. Phase 2 of the ceasefire to happen. Israelis returned and Palestinian children to be able to go to bed at night safely.

Except the Israeli government who for some reason won't agree to phase 2 of the ceasefire which would have seen all of the hostages home by now. They chose to bomb children in their beds instead.

Hamas should have released everyone when they released the last few.

Shrewsbury247 · 22/03/2025 09:35

Anyone justifying the deaths of children in Gaza for any reason needs to have a serious think about their level of humanity and what they have become.
It is nothing short of the mass murder of innocents and the world will judge Israel for it forever.

Letmecallyouback · 22/03/2025 09:38

EasternStandard · 22/03/2025 09:32

Hamas should have released everyone when they released the last few.

In January a ceasefire deal was made in which hostages were agreed by Israel to be released in 2 main phased exchanges. Israel refused to continue with phase 2 of the deal it agreed to which would have seen the remaining hostages released.

LoyalAquaOtter · 22/03/2025 09:41

EasternStandard · 22/03/2025 09:32

Hamas should have released everyone when they released the last few.

In an ideal world sure. It seems a stretch though to lay all the blame for the current killings at Hamas for not going above and beyond the agreed ceasefire rather than Israel for breaking it. Hamas released the agreed upon hostages. There is no reason to believe that wouldn't have continued if Israel would have stuck to the ceasefire too. Like I said if Israel would have progressed to stage 2 as agreed all of the hostages would be home by now. Except Israel didn't. Now 100s of children are dead, orphaned and maimed and the hostages are at risk from those same bombs instead of being home with their families.

SkylarkKitten · 22/03/2025 09:45

ThisNattyTurtle · 22/03/2025 08:59

As per above, this 'both sides' argument is nonsense. One side - one of the most technologically advanced armies in the world - has killed over 17000 children by bombing, sniping, and quadcopter. Before Oct. 7th that same side killed an Oct. 7th number of Palestinian children each year, for decades, with impunity.

For those saying 'oh once Hamas goes Israel will be nice' - the West Bank is ruled by the secular PA which renounced armed resistance 30 yrs ago and fought against Hamas. How has Israel repaid them in those yrs? Kills civilians with impunity including 20-30 children/year (see Save the Children link above, Amnesty, UN). Kidnaps 700 Palestinian children per year, military jails, sexual and physical abuse (Save the Children report 2019, UNICEF Child detainees OPT report 2013)

Here's life 2005 before Hamas. Israeli captain emptied rifle into a Palestinian schoolgirl, his own soldiers testified she was no threat, he was acquitted.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2005/nov/16/israel2

Rachel Corrie was bulldozed to death by Israel in Gaza before Hamas. Tom Hurndall.was shot dead in Gaza before Hamas.

'Both sides argument is nonsense'??

If I saw a child that had died I would not care which 'side' they were on. They didn't choose which side to be born on.

I'm not sure why that is so hard to understand. I am on the side of children, not grown adults fighting for land that doesn't belong to anyone because borders are man made, not natural. This world doesn't belong to any of us.

Just because numbers are higher on one side than the other, it doesn't lessen the blow or how I feel about all the deaths.

Yes abhorrent but why doesn't hammas just give up the ghost and surrender and stop this madness. Give back the remaining hostages and stop this carnage.
Allow Palestine the chance for free and fair democratic elections.

I agree that Hamas are terrorists who should give back all hostages.
I think you are delusional if you think giving back the hostages will do anything to stop Netanyahu though.
