Was I body shamed at Mcdonalds

Went to Mcdonalds drive through as a treat, my DD wanted to pay, so handed the 5 pound note from the back seat. The man working on the drive through thought it was funny and said ''it's a good job I'm slim'' I have no idea what being slim had to do with it, he could reach but not because he was slim.. feel it was a dig at me

No. I think you’re wrong.

Blue278 · 04/02/2025 21:13

So he had to reach and stretch though the little window to get the money? Standard little quip.
Why would he fat shame you? Half his customers will be fat!

Idontjetwashthefucker · 04/02/2025 21:14

That's a bit of a stretch, it was nothing to do with you!

Comedycook · 04/02/2025 21:14

You're overthinking this

Vallmo47 · 04/02/2025 21:14

I also think you’re overthinking it- he was reflecting on his own physique.

hamstersarse · 04/02/2025 21:14

I think you may have body paranoia

OpenFox · 04/02/2025 21:15

Huh?! If you think that was fat shaming then you're clearly a bit paranoid about your weight!

If someone is passing money from the back you'd have to reach forward more which I imagine would have been hard if they'd been fat. The comment was nothing to do with you whatsoever.

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/02/2025 21:16

Bit OTT

FrustratedandBemused · 04/02/2025 21:16

Why do you think his jokey comment about his own body shape was anything to do with you and your body shape?

soupyspoon · 04/02/2025 21:16

Jesus christ, you cant move for tripping over people who are 'shamed' in some way.

TwentyTwentyFive · 04/02/2025 21:16

You completely misunderstood the situation. He meant it's a good job he was slim so he could lean through the small window to reach the note. Next time if your child wants to pay them maybe go inside so the poor staff member doesn't have to squeeze through the window.

bridgetreilly · 04/02/2025 21:17

You are wildly overthinking this.

This, (and nod to punnery!)

Anonymous2003 · 04/02/2025 21:17

You sound very insecure and paranoid

Ablondiebutagoody · 04/02/2025 21:17

Paranoid

RoseAndRose · 04/02/2025 21:18

He had to be slim to reach round.

You are oversensitive

Are you overweight? If so, how do you feel about that?

(Never, ever, blame others. Look to yourself)

RaininSummer · 04/02/2025 21:19

Don't be daft OP. As someone above said, a large amount of their customers will be fat. He made a joke which tapped into your own feelings.

MyFlightWasAwfulThanksForAsking · 04/02/2025 21:20

If you are sensitive about not being slim, maybe stop going to McDonald's...

nellythe · 04/02/2025 21:21

A very standard quip about HIMSELF given that it sounds like HE was having to fit through a space. Absolutely nothing aimed at you and I’m surprised your thoughts went there.

L9ucy · 04/02/2025 21:21

I am a stone bigger than I would like to be, yes.. but I was just confused why weight was bought into it, he said it like good job he is, as you're not, thats how I saw it. I'm no sure. He didn't have to stretch that far as I moved forward a bit so he could reach

As I said, a treat, which was for DD, she paid for her happy meal with the 5 pound

Christ I'm rather a large chap and often use the line "good job the diets working" when I have to squeeze in somewhere/past someone.. Done it for years even when I was 2 stone heavier!

Weight wasn’t brought into it though. It’s a standard British quip. He wasn’t actually commenting on anyone’s weight.
