Was I body shamed at Mcdonalds

Went to Mcdonalds drive through as a treat, my DD wanted to pay, so handed the 5 pound note from the back seat. The man working on the drive through thought it was funny and said ''it's a good job I'm slim'' I have no idea what being slim had to do with it, he could reach but not because he was slim.. feel it was a dig at me

If you think someone is fat shaming you does this mean you are actually fat and ashamed of yourself?

PS he was talking about himself.

I said body shamed, not fat shamed, I would like to lose a stone yep but I was confused why he was talking about weight

Yawn .. not everything is about you!! Get out of your head and stop being egocentric and you'll find life much more fulfilling and rewarding

ATuinTheGreat · 04/02/2025 21:26

If he had to put his arm behind you to reach into the back of the car to get the money, then slim arms would obviously be helpful!

It’s a bit of an odd thing for you to do - why didn’t you drive further forward and open her window?

No - you were not “fat shamed” and to be honest these days being a stone overweight is barely noticeable, let alone make you a target for random people to comment on your weight.

You obviously have your own issues with it though.

Pinkissmart · 04/02/2025 21:27

Christ. He made a filler comment.
Sometimes things fly out of people’s mouths but it doesn’t mean it was a dig. It was just a thing to say while engaging in a transactional exchange.

And wasn’t your daughter handing him cash from the backseat which made it awkward?

Surely body shamed is usually the same as fat shamed. It's very very rarely said against skinny people.

Futurename · 04/02/2025 21:28

It's just a thing people say. I say it when I squeeze past something and I'm quite fat 🤣

Moonlightstars · 04/02/2025 21:28

Honestly, he did nothing wrong. You made he squeeze through the window to get the money. He made a comment about being able to fit through the window. If you are conscious of being chubby that is your issue.

I have already said that I did drive forward a bit. Her window was open. I asked DD to give me the fiver but she wanted to pay and he was ok with it and found it funny

TwentyTwentyFive · 04/02/2025 21:31

Not sure why you asked to be honest as everyone has said he didn't and yet you're ignoring all the comments and seem convinced you're right?

LovelyDaaling · 04/02/2025 21:31

The gap behind your car seat was small. He was concentrating on taking the money and thinking about passing the food through that gap. Sounds like the comment was meant for your daughter and he was being cheery to her, and no dig at you. It's the sort of thing many people would have said in the same circumstances.

sometimesmovingforwards · 04/02/2025 21:32

Are you this much hard work everyday?

Goodweekincoming · 04/02/2025 21:33

Get a grip! You were in NO WAY body shamed.

Tetchypants · 04/02/2025 21:37

He was talking about his weight not yours, as he had to lean out of a small window to reach the fiver that was not quite aligned with him and was further away than if an adult was holding it.

Dear god, why would you think anything else?

He was talking about his own weight. Do you always think people are talking about you when they’re talking about themselves? Feels a bit narcissistic.

pimplebum · 04/02/2025 21:39

You say you are a stone over weight ?
and you think a fast food employee was shaming you because of a tiny ( and yes a stone is a minuscule amount of weight to be over weight by )

are you normally this paranoid about your weight and stranger comments ?
do you think you may need therapy ?

borntobequiet · 04/02/2025 21:39

No better place.

Whattodo1610 · 04/02/2025 21:39

Wow OP get a grip! This is a normal thing to say in these circumstances - especially as he was interacting with your young dd. You clearly have insecurities about your weight - so do something about your weight, or your attitude towards it 🤷‍♀️

bakebeans · 04/02/2025 21:39

What are u on about??

MidnightMeltdown · 04/02/2025 21:40

Here we go again.... another mumsnet professional victim.

You clearly don't have enough to think about OP

Tiswa · 04/02/2025 21:41

To be honest I think you have probably done more fat shaming by posting a thread saying that you feel you were body shamed by ‘gasp’ being a stone overweight / heavier than you would like to be than you were at McDonalds

Emma543 · 04/02/2025 21:42

Ah Jesus here we go another AIBU where everyone says YABU and the poster just argues back.
why post??

soupyspoon · 04/02/2025 21:43

Op will claim she is being mental health shamed in a minute

PinkiOcelot · 04/02/2025 21:43

Paranoia somewhat?!

Carryingcarrying · 04/02/2025 21:43
