Was I body shamed at Mcdonalds

L9ucy · 04/02/2025 21:12

Went to Mcdonalds drive through as a treat, my DD wanted to pay, so handed the 5 pound note from the back seat. The man working on the drive through thought it was funny and said ''it's a good job I'm slim'' I have no idea what being slim had to do with it, he could reach but not because he was slim.. feel it was a dig at me

You've made a leap that could win you an Olympic medal here.

Talk about paranoid.

ButterflyGrace · 04/02/2025 23:51

Do you also get offended when they say 'sorry for your wait'

WilmaTitsDrop · 04/02/2025 23:52

@ButterflyGrace!! 🙈🤣🤣

denhaag · 04/02/2025 23:52

Yikes, I remark that I am slim now and again. Said it this week to a chap who's doing some garden work. I can get between my garden office and the fence to reach a bit of dead space behind the office. He asked how to get behind, and I said "I'm slim enough to get down the side". Yes, I have noticed that he is larger than me, but I'm not shaming him.

I've squeezed into small spaces, or reached my scrawny arm somewhere and commented on it.

Or reached up to get something and commented on being able to because I am tall. Likewise someone may have offered to carry something for me because they are stronger, they're not weak-shaming me, just remarking on a difference.

If you're confident and have enough self-esteem you don't tend to pick apart every comment or view everything as a dig at yourself.

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 05/02/2025 00:13

It wasn't about you, but you are totally set on making it all about you. You seem to feel the need to be offended, so have at it! smdh

Where is your proof to back this up?

Given that 63% of adults in the UK are overweight, are you saying the PP was wrong to assume that a large amount of his customers would be overweight? 😳

A large amount of any retail establishment's customers will be overweight.

Yes and how dare you claim that all overweight people are way they are, because their diet.
Plenty have heath problems, and not all over weight people eat McDonalds.

And how many times have you visited McDonald's. Maybe where you are, but I have only seen families or teenagers and tbh I haven't seen any over weight people or come to think of it actually in city and surrounding areas i live

Your area is obviously outside the norm if nobody's overweight.
Besides, what you see in a McDonald's store is not really representative. Families and teenagers might like to hang out in there but just about everyone else is getting drive through or delivery.

ShelleyCarpenter · 05/02/2025 00:34

He wasn’t talking about you. It’s an old joke. I say “Lucky I’m so slight” if I have to squeeze through anywhere.

Bournetilly · 05/02/2025 01:01

No he wasn’t talking about you.

candlerhyme · 05/02/2025 02:01

Dear god.

You sound very insecure and paranoid

and rude - if the drivers seat was aligned with the window, expecting the server to perform acrobatic moves in order that DD could amuse herself by paying from a rear window is out of order.
Park and go in to the restaurant if you want to make it in to playtime.

Devilgate · 05/02/2025 04:07

Like pp have said - I don’t think it’s a dig at you OP

StarlightLady · 05/02/2025 06:46

I’ve been on MN many years and this is one of the strangest posts l’ve ever read.

I am a stone bigger than I would like to be, yes.. but I was just confused why weight was bought into it, he said it like good job he is, as you're not, thats how I saw it. I'm no sure. He didn't have to stretch that far as I moved forward a bit so he could reach

"thats how I saw it."

This ⬆️ is your issue - perception. Seek therapy because it isn't a healthy way to live.

Trolllol · 05/02/2025 06:57

This is all in your own head OP.

MidLifeMayhem · 05/02/2025 07:02

Absolutely nothing to do with you, I doubt he even noticed you/your weight, it’s just a standard remark. Please don’t over think it and get on with enjoying your life and enjoying a McDonald’s when you want one.

ChopstickNovice · 05/02/2025 07:18

You're overthinking. I have said this or similar if I have to squeeze through two chairs close together - doesn't mean anything about whoever is sat in the chairs.

Olika · 05/02/2025 07:20

You sound to be unhappy about your own weight so you took this comment as about you. I don't think it was.

Longma · 05/02/2025 07:31

It doesn't sound like body seamount.

It's a fairly standard 'joke' type comment about having to squeeze through the tiny window spaces to stretch all the way to the back seats.

I think you're being a bit paranoid thinking it was a dig at you.

Bringmeahigherlove · 05/02/2025 07:41

For God sake. Stop the world!! I wish to get off.

His comment wasn't a reflection on your size at all, and it's unfair of you to feel entitled to think a stranger isn't allowed to comment on their own body, just because you feel insecure about yours.

How was your weight brought into it? He was clearly talking about himself.

GaraMedouar · 05/02/2025 08:13

You’re overthinking massively OP - nope you weren’t being body shamed!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 05/02/2025 08:14

Pelting you with McNuggets whilst shouting “ey up fatty!” = Fat shaming

Making a self deprecating comment about his skinny arms = Not fat shaming.
