How much rent?

MidnightBloom · 24/01/2025 23:56

Me and dh were just talking about how much private rent is these days. I was shocked when dh said private rents for a three bedroom house would be around £500 per month uk wide Confused

How much is private rents roughly in your rough area (put this because I understand people don't want to say there location)

Am I being unreasonable to say private rent for a 3 bed would be around 1k uk wide?

You are not being unreasonable your dh is right.

Your DH is WAY out OP! My daughter rents a tiny 2 bed flat in Hampshire and pays £1,200 p.m!

bridgetreilly · 24/01/2025 23:59

You can’t say UK wide. It varies dramatically.

RoastDinnerSmellsNice · 24/01/2025 23:59

Just looked up 3 beds in her area, anything from £1,400 to £2,000 pm.

MidnightBloom · 25/01/2025 00:00

Thanks @RoastDinnerSmellsNice honestly I was like where the hell have you been for the past 10 or 20 years Confused

£1200 for a 2 bed flat is crazy. In 2000 me and dh had a massive 2 bed flat the rent was £250 per month.

A 3 bed hose in SE is about £1600,and to buy the same house would be £450k. In the NE a 3 bed house would be £550 maybe and £125k to buy.

It depends where and what you are renting.

Bagladydolphin · 25/01/2025 00:01

You wouldn't get a studio flat for that here

kirinm · 25/01/2025 00:01

A 2 bed flat in my area is close to £3k

LozzaChops101 · 25/01/2025 00:02

One bed postage stamp flat £1,100 in SW Surrey.

The reason I put uk wide is because we are in Scotland and he thinks the uk private rents are all equal. Interested to see if there is a difference per country, region, county's etc.

Where I am in the NE I'm paying £455 for a LA. Private properties (3 on Rightmove) two going for £695 & one for £895 (newer build), all 3bed. Village location.

Jjff89 · 25/01/2025 00:03

We pay £750 for a tiny tiny 2 bed cottage northwest.

kirinm · 25/01/2025 00:03

We are just selling our flat in zone 2 and agreed to move into rented as we've not found anywhere. I did not have a clue how expensive it now is.

kirinm · 25/01/2025 00:04

I'm SE London.

LozzaChops101 · 25/01/2025 00:04

I lived in Glasgow ages ago and what I paid for a whole flat up there was less than a room in a flat share in London when I moved south! 😅

Scutterbug · 25/01/2025 00:11

That's a lot for 1 bedroom.

We pay 1620 for a two bed in a notorious zone 5 South London Borough, your DP is insane.

It is a house with garden, mind, but he is off his head.

NewNameBridget · 25/01/2025 00:17

A 3.bed, terrace in sw London is nearer £3,000 per month.

And that's a very normal, victorian, house, tiny courtyard garden, single glazing, on a slightly rough street.

Well you've seen all the rents from the south which are extortionate. I'm west midlands and a typical 3 bed is £1,000 a month

MidnightBloom · 25/01/2025 00:19

@murasaki that's pretty much what I said. Honestly my jaw dropped.

I wish! I’m paying £1350 for a three bed in not a very nice area!

Yellowcakestand · 25/01/2025 00:22

Around 1500 for a 3 bed in South Bristol

justasoul · 25/01/2025 00:24

About £1200 in my area of South Wales. £500 will get you a room in a house share.
