How much rent?

MidnightBloom · 24/01/2025 23:56

Me and dh were just talking about how much private rent is these days. I was shocked when dh said private rents for a three bedroom house would be around £500 per month uk wide Confused

How much is private rents roughly in your rough area (put this because I understand people don't want to say there location)

Am I being unreasonable to say private rent for a 3 bed would be around 1k uk wide?

You are not being unreasonable your dh is right.

Closest houses to rent to me are 1500-2500 for 2-4 bed. Northwest

Porcuporpoise · 25/01/2025 08:03

£500/month will get you a 2 bed flat here. Houses costs are more varied and would depend much more on the area - anything from £600/month to £1,500.

Redglitter · 25/01/2025 08:06

I'm in the west of Scotland

1 bed house on RM - £750 PM

Next town to mine

3 bed house £1800
4 bed house £2200

SleepDeprivedElf · 25/01/2025 08:06

Average here would be £2000, small city not London.

PlantDoctor · 25/01/2025 08:10

Small 2 to 3 bed is at least £1k in most of Cornwall

Cityandsurf · 25/01/2025 08:14

North east England £1600 pcm for 3.5 bed, poorly insulated, dated house albeit in great location. This is the lower end for similar in our area and DOUBLE what we paid for our previous slightly bigger house a mile away before ex-LL sold up last year. "The North" is NOT always cheaper!

FOJN · 25/01/2025 08:18

South west, three beds start at £1500 a month locally.

VanCleefArpels · 25/01/2025 08:21

I’m a landlord in the south east commuter belt. My tiny one bed flats go for £1100 to £1400 pcm. A 3 bed house would be north of £3k

UndermyShoeJoe · 25/01/2025 08:22

Sibling pays £950 For a 2 bed coach house. No garden.

Tarkan · 25/01/2025 08:22

We're in a 3 bed first floor flat (four in a block style so we have a front door to outside rather than an entryway, we have our own driveway out front and a massive shared garden with downstairs out the back, also have a massive converted loft which DH uses as his man cave).

We're in Angus so not the most expensive area and we're unbelievably lucky to be only £520 a month for it.

I'm seeing other places coming up for rent locally and you're lucky to get a one bed place with no garden and no parking for that sort of price now it seems.

We were only £400pcm when we moved here 5 years ago and shortly afterwards a friend moved to a 2 bed flat (with no parking or garden) and ended up paying more than us.

The flat downstairs (no driveway) is going to be up for rent soon and apparently the landlord is wanting over £700 which tbh is probably way too high for our area so once our neighbours move it'll be interesting to see how long it takes for someone new to move in.

Anyotherdude · 25/01/2025 08:25

There is a trend around here (Surrey) for a “one bedroom flat” to be one bedroom, one bathroom and one “”kitchen/diner/sitting room”. These are currently renting for £1,400 pcm.
IMO, a one-bedroom flat should be four rooms, but that luxury seems to have been phased out these days… I despair for the young.

TheDandyLion · 25/01/2025 08:26

I pay £600 for a 3 bed house in very rural Mid Wales. At least an hour's drive from anything.

That accurately describes the flats I let out. It’s a studio with an en-suite bedroom!

£2,500-£3,500/m South West London

Agree. I’m Northumberland and pay £1800 pm for a very date 4 bedroom house with massive damp issues.
Many properties in this area are similarly priced, my ds was looking at renting flat and a two bedroom flat in Newcastle is around £850-£1200

AlertCat · 25/01/2025 08:35

A 2-bed house where I am is anywhere from £1200 per month upwards. £500 was about 15 years ago!
ETA this is small market towns in the south-west.

Intheoldendays · 25/01/2025 08:42

Ours - 3 bed ex social housing has been valued at £550,000 to sell. To rent out, it would be between £1400 and £1600 a month. Tiny rooms in HMOs here start at £650 a month.

Housing allowance is £950 for a 3 bed house, £400 for a shared room.

This is probably one of the most expensive cities in the country to live in with the biggest poverty/ wealth divide and it's absolutely awful

Stardust1985 · 25/01/2025 08:43

3 bed house where we are (rural west Midlands) £1400 - £2500 a month. Our friend is selling up and renting in order to pay off some debts accrued through his divorce and he is really struggling to get somewhere, rental places are just being snatched up within hours even at those prices.

Andoutcomethewolves · 25/01/2025 08:46

£500 would be about average for a bedroom in a shared house (plus bills). at the lower end of average in some areas - I've seen some for more like £750. Bristol, around the St Pauls/Easton/Fishponds/Eastville areas so I'm not talking 'upmarket' areas like Clifton. For a three bed house you'd be looking at £1.5k minimum (and that'd probably be somewhere pretty run down, with tiny garden, small rooms, no off-street parking etc) up to £2k+.

Even our tatty one bed second floor HA flat is more than £500!

Mandatoryamanda · 25/01/2025 08:46

Where i live a 3 bed terrace is around £1500-£1800 but would cost at least £420-450k to buy and that house would need a lot of work. Whilst rents are high, due to mortgage interest rates, rent is probably slightly cheaper now where I am compared to a mortgage.

achangeofusername · 25/01/2025 08:50

We have a teeny tiny rental - 2 bed - for £1,400

Intheoldendays · 25/01/2025 08:51

Actually- I'm a bit behind! 3 bed in our road exactly the same as ours is on for £2200 a month. It's outrageous

OnlyYellowRoses · 25/01/2025 08:52

Dorset here 👋 South coast.
3 bed, mid terrace and we pay £1500pcm which was a good find!

Pineapplewaves · 25/01/2025 08:58

I'm in Scotland, a two bed in my area would be around £900.00 per month and a three bed £1200.00 a month in a nice area. You'd get a room in a shared house for £500.00 a month.
