To think that Musk is now overstepping himself and the UK gvt should threaten action

Musk has just posted this on twitter (among other unhinged tweets). To me this reads as a thinly veiled threat to democratically elected UK MPs and actually the UK government should consider sanctions to the US if he continues this attack when he enters the White House?

That would be an insane thing to do. The UK would suffer far, far more from imposing such sanctions.
But it would also be a powerful weapon for Musk and his fellow travellers. It would be used as evidence that everything they were saying about suppression of free speech etc was correct; it would be a mind-blowingly self-destructive act.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 07/01/2025 02:56

He is extremely dangerous.

This what happens when we as humans allow greed and money to accumulate to such a degree that people then have the power to buy the media and influential figures to manipulate humankind for their own agenda.

Henrysmycat · 07/01/2025 03:01

I’m waiting for Elon’s bots to infiltrate this and talk to us about the thousands (yep, comment I received on a previous thread) of girls being SA and more by the foreigners.
He’s dangerous, he’s racist and complete deluded megalomaniac idiot.
Also,, have a look at replies to me from random accounts telling me to think of the girls while the return the us to the Middle Ages. It’d be fun.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/01/2025 03:07

When any of these men care about women's and girls' safety NO MATTER WHO IS RAPING THEM I'll believe it's not xenophobia and racism. But none of them, not Robinson, not Musk, certainly not Trump cares if it's white men raping.

Get better at locking up rapists. Deporting them just means that other girls and women are bing raped. And they are my sisters.

Musk on abortion and contraception tells you all you need to know about his actual views on women's rights.

Bigredcombine · 07/01/2025 05:16

He is what fascism looks like in 2025. He's a very dangerous ego maniac.

ABetterYou · 07/01/2025 05:29

The issue really should NOT be about Elon. The real issue is why did politicians, police and counsellors allow the systematic abuse and violence of children. The truth if you are sincere about it is “the vote bank” of those communities.

All that is required for evil to prevail if for otherwise good people to look the other way. Labour did not look the other way; they actively participated in the cover up.

All children are precious. Starmer has violated fundamental principles of humanity.

beencaughttrollin · 07/01/2025 05:37

Can you please post the text of the relevant bill? Thanks.

User37482 · 07/01/2025 05:41

Musk is a distraction, I don’t know why people just don’t ignore him. MP’s feelings are not enough to sanction an entire country. If that were the case the Trump could have sanctioned the Uk for comments made by our own MP’s about him.

There is a very serious problem, survivors have been saying that abuse is ongoing. Some of the details that weren’t previously publicly known now are and they are utterly horrific.

There is work to be done to safeguard children and Musk, Tommy Robinson etc are a distraction from that. They don’t actually matter. There are more people on mumsnet talking about how rude Musk is than talking about the children who were abused, the previous report and recommendations. Whether we need a national enquiry or not, whether we need new legislation or sentencing guidelines etc. This inability to focus on actual substance is how we got here in the first place.

People didn’t want to be labelled racist (my own cynical take is that people in these places were at risk of losing influence, look at Cryer and Champion) so we ignored something truly terrible. And now instead of talking about safeguarding we are talking about twitter spats.

Beesandhoney123 · 07/01/2025 05:42

Musk has extreme views and the money to get them out there. He is an unelected individual without enough to do in the afternoons, and he likes a ruck and lots of attention.

sanctioning the US is a ludicrous idea. Deleting X off your device would be a good start.

hobbledyhoy · 07/01/2025 05:46

This must be the eighth thread devoted to Musk in the last two days, I've been on Mumsnet for years and he's barely garnered a mention despite being a colossal fucking walloper from the beginning.

I think we need to cut off the oxygen to these idiots, the attention is what they crave and he's quite clearly unhinged.

People also need to hit him where it hurts - stop buying bloody Tesla's

Beesandhoney123 · 07/01/2025 05:50

The issues musk has raised are right to be raised. Muddying the waters over who raised them us a pathetic attempt at distraction. Don't care about Musk motives, and he certainly has pressed a few buttons to get this gov reaction.

There should be a public enquiry for the mass abuse, rape and apathy on helping the children. There should be arrests and action. Its a national scandal.

BlackChunkyBoots · 07/01/2025 05:55

@Beesandhoney123 I did that recently. Twitter is a useful tool but there was too much extremism on there. It's very easy for me to get sucked in.

Musk is that embarrassing uncle with the extreme views your gran insisted you ask to Christmas dinner and who ruins your day. He knows now he's got Twitter the power he wields, he's now telling national governments what to do, I think the best thing our Government could do is ignoring him. In my ideal world I wish they would make it difficult for Tesla & X to trade in the UK but that's nigh on impossible.

Not sure if the op was serious but sanctions will just get a bigger walloping back. The US wouldn’t be hurt, we would be though

Agree with pp Musk is getting so many hits as people amplify his posts on SM not just X

NotOneOfTheInCrowd · 07/01/2025 05:58

I don’t actually think he’s dangerous.

He’s deranged, but while people keep feeding his ego by retweeting and talking about him and his tweets they are giving him power.

There are already rumours of a rift between him and Trump developing, that’s what happens when you stick two manic ego’s together.

But the reality is that he doesn’t actually have power, he has money, but he can only have that power if people give it to him.

Trump isn’t going to give him power. There is not a chance of that. And trump is not likely to live out this term.

NotOneOfTheInCrowd · 07/01/2025 06:02

And the idea of sanctioning the US is frankly idiotic.

Do you even know his views on the topic?

His kids are created via IVF after all

AlisonDonut · 07/01/2025 06:13

Starmer wanted the UK government to take action against the USA after George Floyd but gets upset when it comes back at him. He is the biggest hypocrite going.

RingoJuice · 07/01/2025 06:16

Britain feels fine bullying other countries over human rights issues but hate it when they receive criticism for their own abuses.

If you can dish it out, you can take it

He didn’t seem bothered when the Conservative government rejected calls for an inquiry into the Telford rape gangs.

The scary thing is though that power isn't Trump’s to give in this brave new world. It’s ours. He has a megaphone into each of our homes via our technology. Yes we each of us give Musk power by taking him seriously, but at the same time, we have to take him seriously because he is a real threat. The power was given years ago when we (primarily the Americans, but us too) allowed him to amass such wealth and social influence.

I hope those who allowed him to purchase Twitter realise what damage they did, for money.

Actually I am grateful for this information. Why a foreign born rapist should not be deported is extraordinary to me.

I’ve made it clear in my family that no one will be allowed to park a Tesla on our drive.

I closed my twitter account when he took it over.

And I’ve disliked the idiot for years. Both DH and my DSs thought I was over reacting - but the signs were there when he labelled the diving rescue expert who rejected his ‘device’ a paedophile. Who the hell behaves like that? A total moron, that’s who. DS2 is very anti- drugs - so I’ve just shown him the reports about Musk’s ketamine use.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 07/01/2025 06:46

Sanctions to the us? That will never happen.
Ever.

jeaux90 · 07/01/2025 06:46

Actually finding it a bit fascinating.

Purely from a political theory...

The thing is the Overton window has been pushed quite far to one side, and some of what he said is probably designed to be shocking yes but to push it back the other way a bit.
