To think that Musk is now overstepping himself and the UK gvt should threaten action

Musk has just posted this on twitter (among other unhinged tweets). To me this reads as a thinly veiled threat to democratically elected UK MPs and actually the UK government should consider sanctions to the US if he continues this attack when he enters the White House?

At some point, some people will start calling Elon "President Musk" and that will be that.

They’re already calling him the First Lady which I don’t imagine he enjoys very much.

Foreign-born rapists are automatically deported at end of sentence as are any convicts convicted of a violent crime or a non-violent crime with a sentence of 1 year or longer. This has been the case for many years and is not changing.

@SuzieNine thank you for that information.

@SuzieNine thank you for that information.

Also, foreign born rapists have taken the UK to court to avoid deportation using the EHRC. So it would be against their human rights to be made to leave.

You can't just take one side and nod along thinking everything is being taken care of. It really isn't.

The issue really should NOT be about Elon. The real issue is why did politicians, police and counsellors allow the systematic abuse and violence of children. The truth if you are sincere about it is “the vote bank” of those communities.

All that is required for evil to prevail if for otherwise good people to look the other way. Labour did not look the other way; they actively participated in the cover up.

All children are precious. Starmer has violated fundamental principles of humanity.

This is absolute nonsense. Starmer has a known track record of doing more to bring rapists to justice than any other DPP. We have had three inquiries whose recommendations were not put in place by the previous government despite having a very long time to do so. The Labour government is now rectifying that.

No, it isn't automatically against their human rights. Action can only be taken on a case by case basis, if it can be shown that the convicted individual is in specific danger of a serious violation of human rights (i.e. in effect torture or death) if deported.

I find this both fascinating and worrying. I'm all for free speech. I think it is really important and I believe people should be able to say what they like, as long as it isn't inciting hatred or illegal.

However, I think that Musk is trying to incite mischief at the very least here and indirectly hatred. The child abuse that happened throughout the UK is really dreadful and there have been multiple failings exposed at all levels. However, it is absurd to try and blame the current UK Prime Minister for all the failings at all levels during a time when he was not PM. He was head of the CPS from 2008-13 and during that time there were a number of changes made under his leadership to improve convictions for grooming cases. Was enough done? No and I don't think anyone has ever tried to say otherwise. However, like so many of these issues it is complex and extends across so many different parts of our society and structures that you can't just point the finger at one person and say that they are to blame.

Musk has a huge platform and for whatever reason, that I cannot fathom, his voice seems to carry weight with some people. He says things that are patently untrue or so absurdly spun that they are misdirecting and people believe him or think that what he is saying is true. I agree that it is up to individuals to make up their own mind but if you have a strong voice pumping out what is essentially propaganda unopposed, this is dangerous territory in my opinion.

But dampening it down how? Stamer is so cack handed and thin skinned, he’ll try to stamp it out and simply enrage the masses.

You think masses of people think in this hateful way, you are not living in the real world. In the General Election 'the masses' did not vote for Reform and do you know why as the people who have power and money are never going to vote for a pro Brexit party!

madgesb · 07/01/2025 08:53

Do we really need endless threads on this? We get it you hate him.

I said I’m getting annoyed by the constant hypocrisy, and pointed out some of it.

Either people think it’s okay to comment on other countries, or they don’t.

If you don’t, then keep it consistent.

No-one is saying it is wrong to comment on other countries. However, if you cannot see the difference between helping with the lawful electoral process and calling for the unlawful removal of a duly elected government, I think you need to back to school.

LaDeeDaDeeDa · 07/01/2025 08:56

Elon Musk has called Ed Davey (Lib Deb leader) a 'snivelling cretin' on X !

Who on earth would disagree with that?

Blarn · 07/01/2025 08:56

I think the Government should just ignore him, he loves attention. They have issued their statements and whenever asked about anything else should just sigh and say, "yes, he's being a bit silly isn't he". Then move on to something else.

madgesb · 07/01/2025 08:56

hobbledyhoy · 07/01/2025 05:46

This must be the eighth thread devoted to Musk in the last two days, I've been on Mumsnet for years and he's barely garnered a mention despite being a colossal fucking walloper from the beginning.

I think we need to cut off the oxygen to these idiots, the attention is what they crave and he's quite clearly unhinged.

People also need to hit him where it hurts - stop buying bloody Tesla's

Shut it down shut it down shut it down

amoreoamicizia · 07/01/2025 08:57

That should be "MPs", not "MP's".

StepawayfromtheLindors · 07/01/2025 08:57

I agree with the German chancellor - don’t feed the troll.

amoreoamicizia · 07/01/2025 09:00

What's the significance of Ed Davey being highlighted? I must have missed something.

madgesb · 07/01/2025 09:00

Maray1967 · 07/01/2025 06:53

We’ve had the investigations - we now need to get on with action. Attention needs to be on police in particular - how they respond and what action they take. And for Conservatives to try to turn this into a party political point is truly disgusting. Would they like to discuss exactly what their administrations have done over the last 14 years? Keir Starmer and Jess Phillips are not at the top of my list of ineffective politicians on the safety of women and girls.

And no, we’re not going to sanction the US - but I would hope that quiet words will be had by diplomats as the Trump administration takes office. I also think it probably won’t be long before Trump decides he’s had enough of another big ego in the White House.

Why only the police?

Mmasters · 07/01/2025 09:00

Why vote against deporting rapists unless you need their vote

kirbykirby · 07/01/2025 09:01

SuzieNine · 07/01/2025 07:59

Can you point to the bill and debate where this actually happened? Or do you just believe every word he says?

Not true.

And we shouldn't forget all his mad rants about the cave rescuer involved in saving the lives of those children in Thailand. Elon accused him of being a peadophile when he declined to use his made up submarine. Everyone has known for years that he is just a bell end.

Mmasters · 07/01/2025 09:01

Noone

madgesb · 07/01/2025 09:03

CatsndtheBear · 07/01/2025 07:15

This.

The issue is that people just heard about "grooming gangs" and say to each other "oh that's terrible isn't it".

They act like these gangs are the equivalent of a seedy Uncle or the pervy gym teacher, just on a large scale.

Not enough people have spent the time to read the details about what those girls actually suffered. These are torture and rape gangs.

There HAS been a cover up. This WAS allowed to continue despite a few brave souls trying to speak out. We DO have an issue with our government and police not knowing how to deal with crimes done by certain ethnic groups and religions.

Something needs to change and instead of being so worried about Musk, as women we should be demanding answers of our government and demanding action is taken.
What was done to those girls was the equivalent of murder in my opinion. The life they could and should have had was ended and that kind of trauma will change them forever.

It affects everything. Not only your life but family, friends and some of it you only process years later and then get affected in new ways.

FirstOfTheFirst · 07/01/2025 07:43

There is absolutely no way on earth multi billionaire Musk is a bastion of morality. So he's not doing this out of a sense of decency. There's something else at play and as it has been power at the root of plays like this since the dawn of time, it'll be power this time. He's just a different model of power hungry.

Go off the facts instead of making stuff up please.

FirstOfTheFirst · 07/01/2025 09:08

The fact is that that is my opinion of Musk and history.

Labour really can’t complain about foreigners stating their opinions when they went over to the States to campaign for Kamala.

Their authoritarian ’rules for thee, but not for me’ mindset.

The hypocrisy is staggering.

As is the hypocrisy from all the posters on here, after the thousands of threads we’ve had here commenting on Trump

Very well said, GoldThumb

If you combine America, a Trump acolyte and a culture which some can't bear to see criticised it all makes for a perfect storm for the kind of virtue signallers who are only too happy to see meddling when it suits

Besides, "they all need removing" is an opinion, but what's wrong with publicising the names of those who opposed deportation of rapists, beyond the issue that some would rather he hadn't done it?
