To think that Musk is now overstepping himself and the UK gvt should threaten action

Musk has just posted this on twitter (among other unhinged tweets). To me this reads as a thinly veiled threat to democratically elected UK MPs and actually the UK government should consider sanctions to the US if he continues this attack when he enters the White House?

This is absolute nonsense. Starmer has a known track record of doing more to bring rapists to justice than any other DPP. We have had three inquiries whose recommendations were not put in place by the previous government despite having a very long time to do so. The Labour government is now rectifying that.

Depressingly, at this stage it doesn't matter whether it is true or not. If Musk says it loud enough it will become "true" , because who is going to bother looking up pesky facts.
And poor embattled Musk is free to say whatever he wants because "free speech", it doesn't matter if it is true.

Did Labour activists call for the murder of US politicians....? must have missed that bit...

Plus it was Labour activists in their own time, it wasn't official.

Not that facts matter to some people.

Did Labour activists call for the murder of US politicians.

There was plenty of that on here quite recently after the failed assassination attempt on Trump. Hundreds and hundreds of posts.

SuzieNine · 07/01/2025 09:17

They have lost all their appeals and are both under a deportation order. They have also both been stripped of their British citizenship. However, Pakistan are refusing to accept them. This is a perennial problem with deportations - a lot of countries simply don't want their criminals back.

MargoLivebetter · 07/01/2025 09:17

@GoldThumb and @Puzzledandpissedoff I don't have any problem with anyone from anywhere stating their opinion. I do have a problem with propaganda and opinions being broadcasted as facts. There is surely a difference between like minded politicians supporting a democratic process and the widespread peddling of misinformation?

FirstOfTheFirst · 07/01/2025 09:18

To be fair, if social media posts are the benchmark then you'd have to also look at how many Twitter posts called for MP violence.

MN is going to look very tame by comparison.

No there wasn't, there were a few and posts deleted... trying posting you want someone murdered on here?

But in any case, these weren't Labour officials and or MPs Govt Ministers.

Labour and Tory activists have always campaigned in the US elections, as have US citizens, such as Republicans Abroad, here in the UK.

Too many facts there i'm afraid... another one is between 2010 and 2019, over 50k ex prisoners deported from the UK but for obvious reasons it dropped off during covid.

A fallacy no one is deported.

Stop your nonsense. You don't have the moral high ground here.

Shut it down shut it down shut it down

Shut what down?

This is the issue, that people only want freedom to speak what they want said.

If you don't want a Tesla, don't buy one. If you are seeing racists on X then stop following racists. Honestly, this is in your hands, but you do not get to tell other people what they can and cannot do.

I was being sarcastic.

yohohoCrimbo · 07/01/2025 09:25

@AlisonDonut

Also, foreign born rapists have taken the UK to court to avoid deportation using the EHRC. So it would be against their human rights to be made to leave.

You can't just take one side and nod along thinking everything is being taken care of. It really isn't.

Not nodding along. I'm reading and learning fast.

Crazy that the EHRC is protecting those who we need protecting from.

Who's looking a british media and seeing facts anymore 😂

A fallacy no one is deported.

Every single criminal that is found guilty should be deported if they were not born in the country. At the start of their sentence not the end. And be barred from ever entering again.

If countries don't want their criminals back, then all citizen immigration from that country ceases until a deal to take them back is made and signed.

This isn't difficult.

Mmasters · 07/01/2025 09:00

Why vote against deporting rapists unless you need their vote

I'm also keen to know why so many of our MP's voted against the deportation. Can anyone explain please?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/01/2025 09:30

I do have a problem with propaganda and opinions being broadcasted as facts

So do I, @MargoLivebetter, and there's an issue in that folk are assuming Elon's list relates to this latest uproar when actually it concerned previous deportation attempts for others crimes

Nevertheless those previous offences did indeed include rapists, so in esseence he's not wrong, and on the wider point I believe it's important to know who wishes us to go on harbouring the sort who may be much better removed

Babadookinthewardrobe · 07/01/2025 09:33

Unfortunately successive UK governments have silenced the victims, protected the perpetrators and lied to the public.

Since the voices of the “slapper” victims have not been heeded by politicians, police or social services in their scramble to protect community relations, I’m glad Musk has raised it because he is a voice they cannot ignore so perhaps the hideous mess and those who have covered it up will finally be dealt with rather than kicked into the long grass.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/01/2025 09:34

Personally I think it’d be better for the likes of Starmer and the mainstream media to ignore him - in the same way that you might ignore a thoroughly PITA, attention-seeking child.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 07/01/2025 09:36

Ignore him like the victims and their families have been ignored for decades? Absolutely not.

There were indeed, @timenowplease, and while I'm no admirer either I don't happen to feel that chortling over the possibility of someone being murdered is any kind of answer

100% agree.

I'm also staggered that there are morally bankrupt lawyers here in the UK who advised these convicted rapists to renounce their Pakistani citizenship in order to avoid being deported.

WTF is wrong with these people? Actively helping rapists to play our so called human rights system. This is abhorrent.

maudelovesharold · 07/01/2025 09:48

Imo the Trump/Musk marriage is not going to last. Trump will realise (or be told) that Musk is overstepping the mark. Despite all indications to the contrary, I think Trump, in his own mind, wants to be a rational, statesmanlike President, and will not align himself for long with someone who threatens to vye with him for power.

That would be extremely difficult. The UK economy is built on immigration. Look at how many healthcare professionals are immigrants. Coming over here, healing our sick and injured.

Are you suggesting we don't need these people?

Yes. Musk has bought himself political power and influence to an a terrifying degree.
