To think that Musk is now overstepping himself and the UK gvt should threaten action

Musk has just posted this on twitter (among other unhinged tweets). To me this reads as a thinly veiled threat to democratically elected UK MPs and actually the UK government should consider sanctions to the US if he continues this attack when he enters the White House?

@BIossomtoes

"I suspect genocidal rape apologist might be."

Nope that's not libellous - definitely unpleasant and insulting but not libellous.

Please see my earlier posts for what is and is not libellous.

If he had falsely accused RR of committing a specific criminal offence then that would be libellous.

Why isn’t he publicly calling out putin then! Or Donald trump if he’s so righteous or other world leaders where abuse and female genital mutilation is still going on??
No it’s a hidden agenda to demoralise the Uk!

I’m not sure what you want me to say?! I hate the bloke. I’m just supporting free speech no matter who says it

I missed this response but, as per the PP, it is not.

I don't see how you're supporting free speech, in what way do you think it is being impaired?

The abuse shouted at all politicians is awful, tory scum, chucking stuff at them when they don't know if it's acid or a milk shake, throwing bricks through leadership hopefuls windows and being so derogatory about jp is all unpleasant but forgive me I've not seen her yet surrounded by a baying mob with a police escorts and I hope I never will

True, just lives with Police protection and a panic room in her house, this sort of thing used to be reserved for N. Ireland secretaries.

The discord is awful and has, imho, directly led to the murder of 2 politicians, people like Musk feed this, as do people defending him, like many posters on here, with their free speech stuff.

Why can't Musk speak about CSA without the calls for murder on his platform X? its a disgrace that these tweets remain up and thats absolutely on him.

He is doing the same in Germany, supporting the AfD, an organisation with its roots in the Nazi party.... bt all good.

Lets support a guy who backs the holocaust deniers and that the Waffen SS were not automatically criminals, which then led to Le Pens RN pulling out of a coalition with them in the EU Parliament....

But he is an ok bloke on MN....

Apparently counter extremism unit are looking into Musk - pwahahaha 40,000 on the watch list, can't stop the boats, can't stop the grooming and the imams calling for Jihad - but heyho

Good. Someone needs to. Having billions in the bank shouldn't make you exempt from the law.

Libel laws are ineffective against rich people in the USA anyway. And the rest of us can't afford legal fees. Let's face it he blatantly lied about the British diver , purely out of spite and jealousy , repeatedly calling him a paedophile. Yet an American Court found him not guilty.

MargoLivebetter · 10/01/2025 10:45

It is hardly surprising that British counter terrorism would be keeping an eye on Musk's tweets. He says wild and controversial stuff and seems to be encouraging far right parties and view points. Therefore he is going to be followed by a whole load of nutters who are probably already on counter terrorism watch lists. It probably makes the life of the counter terrorism unit easier as it brings all the far right loons together in a nice easy to follow and track format!

DuncinToffee · 10/01/2025 10:55

Exactly, and X was one key vector for the incitement to violence in July/August 2024 and was negligent during and after about criminal content.

SANCTIONING THE US?! Are you nuts - that would absolute finish us off. Musk is extreme for sure - not buying Teslas, is not going to hurt the man, he has SO much money. Im not sure much can be done about Musk - i think eventually he will just simmer down,

Not over Musk, agree but if Trump attacks Greenland, then we will have to consider this, the USA is a massive exporter of services, its not all one way.

He needs income stream, which Tesla gives him, he has his Space X program for starters.

X should be banned, as the Brazilians did when he interfered in their Govt, he very quickly backed down, we need to do similar, in conjunction with the EU.

You could easily imagine Musk as a sort of American Ilya Prigogine. Oligarchs with their own armies , warlords who think democracy is an obstacle to their greatness. Oh what wonders could they achieve , if they weren't impeded by tiresome mediocrities like us!
Anyway what's the point of elections. Zuckerberg has already said that ' I don't think governments are the way forward '. I expect the other Oligarchs agree. Although it may be all they do agree on.

Don't buy a Tesla
Delete X off your phone.
Ignore him and don't give him the satisfaction of being discussed.

Yes I'm going to have words with my neighbour who was contemplating a Tesla.
It's so weird Musk's own ( adopted) country is on fire- so there's a very serious crisis at home. Yet his recent tweets seem to disproportionately prioritise the Labour Party over here. Why obsess over a little country (that's much less of a big player than it was) which is tens of thousands of miles away? If I was American I'd lose respect for him for his wandering focus on domestic affairs.

It's weird. Why are we so interesting to Musk and Trump for that matter?. All I can think is that because they both have British grandparents they've got some weird family legacy type regrets that their empires weren't originally built here. It's weird- both are extremely powerful and successful in the US and internationally so look forwards and stop obsessing disproportionately over us, stop looking backwards and leave us alone!

lonelyplanetmum · 10/01/2025 15:13

Sorry I discussed him, which I agree is counter productive. Off to delete X and download Bluesky!

Unlikely. She hasn’t posted on X at all for a couple of weeks and everything prior to that was pretty unremarkable.

Jess Phillips also doesn't have the reach that Elon Musk has, or can apply an algorithm
