Gov refuses home office investigation into historic child sex abuse in Oldham

Perzival · 01/01/2025 23:45

I've just read on x that Jess Phillips has formally declined Oldham council's request for the HO to investigate the grooming gangs in Oldham. Why on Earth would they do this? Apparently JP says it should be a local investigation? Clearly that is a conflict of interests and if the council are asking for help they should?

The only link I can find other than x is GB news (apologies).

Labour REJECTS Oldham's call for Government inquiry into grooming gangs scandal

Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips has said Oldham should 'take its own approach' instead

Is that you, Dawn Butler? 🤔

Too much of a TERF for that, I'm afraid!

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 06/01/2025 17:29

Slow handclap for everyone more concerned about defending the Labour party, than the horrific mass rapes of chiildren.

Gunnersforthecup · 06/01/2025 17:31

Basically, the Tories had 14 or so years in office to deal with these and related issues.

There WAS an inquiry. But the Tories apparently (according to the discussions on Radio 4 today) put in place NONE of the 20 recommendations.

Labour have said they will do everything they can to implement these recommendations and have got the ball rolling to do so. Good.

The Tories have said blah blah you have been in office 6 months and not sorted it all out. That seems unrealistic. Especially as they did fuck all when they were in office.

Elon Musk has stuck his oar in and criticised everyone in British politics from Starmer to Farage because he has a lot of money and wants to stir up civil unrest, it seems. If Musk likes Tommy Robinson so much, that shows how little Musk's opinion is to be valued.

There you go.

Aduvetday · 06/01/2025 17:31

It’s 2025 - no-one gives a shit about being called far right. Anyone who uses it to shut down genuine debate and questions is authoritarian. I am almost embarrassed for the Starmer fan club. He’s not going to marry you.

Yes, Labour must implement the recommendations asap.

Menopausalsourpuss · 06/01/2025 17:35

No one really cares what starmer says, he is unlikely to last the year, if the economy crash doesn't get him his unpopularity will or there will be a corruption scandal too much. But what is depressing is we are stuck with labour for another 3 years and they can do so much damage to both the country and our international reputation.

Alexandra2001 · 06/01/2025 17:36

No one has defended the Labour party but if people lie, twist and make up nonsense, then it has to be challenged, especially when these posters are supporting Musk in his calls to over through an elected Govt, a Govt that has said it will implement the national CSA inquiry, something the Tories refused to do, despite having, rightly, set up the inquiry.

If you don't like that, there is always the hide button?

Now I didn't vote for Labour last election.

But I can't see how Starmer could do more damage to our international reputation than Cameron, Johnson, Truss etc - can you explain that to me???

CandlesOrangesRedribbon · 06/01/2025 17:39

The most important thing Is that the home secretary is going to speak soon about this issue.

I can't fathom why people care and are getting bogged down onto report.

She' said nothing has been implemented (sky news).

We need to get to the root cause of the problem.

What? castrate all men??

CandlesOrangesRedribbon · 06/01/2025 17:39

Gunner it's over quite a few European papers

Namechangetry · 06/01/2025 17:40

Interesting that you don't give any reasons for your disagreement, merely harrumphing.

Badenoch is a very right ring member of a centre right party, to the extent that she's alienated a lot of the softer right. These things are all widely acknowledged and not a matter of opinion. By all means explain why you don't think her stated views across a wide variety of issues mean she's not far right, but until you've at least attempted that, you yourself are making a (weak) attempt to silence.

I'll say it again - you have no idea what the far right is, if you think Badenoch represents it. Go to some parts of Europe and see actual neo Nazis with actual swastika banners having rallies in the street, then come back here and tell me that. Someone being further to the right of centre than you are, isn't the same as someone being far right. Yoiu know that the Democrats in the US are actually further to the right politically than the Tories are, right? Are the Democrats all far right? You just don't understand the terms you're using. You sound like Rik from the Young Ones calling everyone he disagreed with a fascist.

CandlesOrangesRedribbon · 06/01/2025 17:41

I actually feel embarrassed that starmer even gave breath too talking about musk.

Why comment? He's a car maker??

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 06/01/2025 17:42

I won't be hiding anything, what a strange suggestion.

Alexandra2001 · 06/01/2025 17:44

Lucy Duckworth, CSA survivor, for The Survivors Trust is now speaking in Sky News, saying she is shocked none of the implementations has been done and that these need to be done ASAP.

Why aren't we doing this? a question for Starmer et al..... its 6months in after all.

Far more important than messing about for another 4 or 6 years waiting yet another report......

Gunnersforthecup · 06/01/2025 17:45

CandlesOrangesRedribbon · 06/01/2025 17:39

Gunner it's over quite a few European papers

Surely can't be worse than all the years of the will they, won't thy Brexit shitshow.

There are a lot of problems in Europe with the behaviour of immigrant men also. It is appalling, but it is not unique to the UK. And Labour are only at the start of their term of office, the responsibility for the last several years lies with the outgoing adminstration, not Starmer and co.

So any adverse effect on the UK's international reputation from this issue is on the previous conservative governments more than Starmer, I'd say.

CandlesOrangesRedribbon · 06/01/2025 17:45

Well the same could be said for that poster.re finding the hide button.

I'll say again- you still haven't given an explanation of why Badenoch isn't far right.

The existence of people who are further to the right than she is isn't that. Neither does an irrelevant comment about the Democrats in the US. In order to back up your claims, you're going to have to explain based on Kemi's own stated views. The fact that you haven't even mentioned any of her views in two posts complaining says a lot.

In the spirit of fairness, by the way, I should warn you that I actually do know rather a lot about political science, especially in a UK context. If we were to have a pissing contest about our qualifications to speak on the issue, I'd probably win. Which doesn't mean everything I say must be right of course, but it does mean you're going to have to do better than telling someone they can't possibly understand because they don't agree with you.

OneAmberFinch · 06/01/2025 17:48

On the issue of immigration, which is the issue at hand, Kemi Badenoch is very far from far right.

Gummybear23 · 06/01/2025 17:50

Musk and also his father need help.

@Gunnersforthecup

The government as far as I'm aware have not been as complicit in covering up mass rape and murder.

I can only think Belgium's white march travesty comes close.

Many in the EU want to leave it's not the shining light of wonder by any means and I think this travesty is a national shame yes.

Any society is judged by how it treats it's most vulnerable members.

Good speech now by Yvette cooper.
Thanks Elon

You do know that terms like Far Right Far Left exist on a spectrum.

Badenoch is far to the right of say Thatcher, former ministers of her Govt, are no longer even in the Tory party, Clarke Major Heseltine all gone, moderates like Gaulk now work for the Labour Government.

Badennoch would fit very well into RN, AFD, Freedom Party, Meloni's Govt, even Sunak spoke very highly of her, went to a "far right conference with her.

Edited

Rather than asking me to prove a negative, did I miss the part where you explained how Badenoch is far right? You being an expert on political science must know that would mean she is politically aligned to neo nazi, fascist, white supremacist ideology, that's pretty extreme so I'm sure examples of her stated views being on those lines are easy to come by?

Upstartled · 06/01/2025 17:56

Badenoch is to the far right as Rayner is to the far left - not at all. It's just hyperbole.
