Gov refuses home office investigation into historic child sex abuse in Oldham

I've just read on x that Jess Phillips has formally declined Oldham council's request for the HO to investigate the grooming gangs in Oldham. Why on Earth would they do this? Apparently JP says it should be a local investigation? Clearly that is a conflict of interests and if the council are asking for help they should?

The only link I can find other than x is GB news (apologies).

Labour REJECTS Oldham's call for Government inquiry into grooming gangs scandal

Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips has said Oldham should 'take its own approach' instead

If our government had known anything about politics, they could have taken control of the narrative and said that they weren't going to get bogged down in inquiries for years, it is time for action now.
Hiring a bunch of administrators as leaders seemed refreshing after the antics of the Tories, but now people are surprised when they realise that they have ended up with a government with a massive communication failure, unless you count leaking like a sieve. They really need a (non warmongering) Alistair Campbell.

I would like to see an enquiry run by an international body (or the US). It is clear none of our institutions can be trusted including alot of the judiciary and alot of them are implicated so would be trying to cover their backs. The whistle-blowers have said that last one was a whitewash so would not want to waste any more taxpayers money on another one. See the Covid enquiry too - yet another waste of public money.

Everybody should listen to this interview with Maggie Oliver.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 06/01/2025 07:36

Andy Burnham on Radio 4 - sounds like he has actually done something about these gangs in greater Manchester???

If you consider taking a water pistol to put out a house fire as doing something than yes I suppose he has. Operation sherwood is still ongoing too, but these vile men are still on the streets, and they are harboured, protected and defended by their community.

Is this a joke ?

Where is Angela Raynor's voice?

Her constituency borders Oldham and covers parts of the town I think. She will be fully aware of these issues, yet she says and does nothing?

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 06/01/2025 08:04

Tim Montgomery was shut down by Nick Robinson at the end of Today programme “We shouldn’t call them grooming gangs we should call them rape gangs”.

Keir Starmer filmed a video and made a plea to America following George Floyd’s death.

He stated ‘injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere’ Martin Luther King. It’s available on X. Was he interfering with American politics? Why was that acceptable?

I think his response today will tell me what I need to know about the Government. If he waffles on about Elon Musk/Far Right/X or if he does the right thing and accepts Labour and Conservatives, police, Cps, councils, social services have made grave mistakes and discriminated against white working class girls and Sikh girls and they will fight for justice for the victims of Pakistani Muslim grooming, rape and torture gangs and look into why these men operate exploitation rings in the U.K. and authorities allow it . Surely they will start deporting dual national/non UK criminals immediately - this week. They could provide a hotline for current victims. Relocating them immediately if their life is in danger while they arrest the men (and do not release before trial). If there are not enough prison spaces can foreign prisoners be deported back to their home countries to serve their sentence?

If he waffles on about Musk/interference/protecting the community/social media/far right or if he clamps down on freedom of speech (integral to democracy - I posted about it up thread). I will question whether they are corrupt, not true believers in democracy, or if they are complicit and afraid of info coming into the public domain. The govs first job is to protect the citizens of the U.K. And they have failed.

I think they need an enquiry to explore the fact most U.K. based child rape is hidden. It’s one adult and one child at one time. It’s secretive. We tell our kids about secrets vs surprises. The adult (usually male) doesn’t usually get his cousin/father/brother/colleague/neighbour involved. This is more like rape used in war. Why is this happening and why was community cohesion placed above the rape of white girls?

There are a few comments on Sm saying the victims don’t like the word Grooming to be removed. So I have added grooming back in.

Her name’s Rayner. How do you know she’s said or done nothing? And if you’d heard from her I expect your response would be the same as you’ve made about Andy Burnham.

……

There has not been an investigation into national grooming at all. The IICSA report (if that’s what you’re referring to) was very broad and into child sex abuse as a general phenomenon and only mentioned one of the towns once in 400 pages. The main journalist on the recent expose had this to say:

Why do they refuse to publish this data?

Yes there has, that was the main remit of the inquiry, set up by May in 2014.... the report is full of the national issues and remedies.

The inquiry made 20 final recommendations, 6 of which were from previous inquires, which did look into the specifics of Rotherham ie the localised inquires.

Over the course of the 7 years of the inquiry, they made a total 107 recommendations.

Not one has been fully implemented.

Really struggling as to why you and others want yet another inquiry, as the motivation seems not to be the protection of all children across the UK but to cause trouble for Labour.

Otherwise you be calling for the finds to be acted upon first.

That was not the main remit at all. It was looking at CSE very broadly across all institutions from churches to care homes and included things like grooming online. Whilst that is needed, this is a very particular kind of grooming and one that has been ignored by successive governments. The fact you think it’s about “trouble for labour” is telling - I couldn’t give a toss about labour. What matters are raped and tortured girls who have not had justice and the corruption of institutions which has enabled this. Institutions including the police - and for which no one has been held account or even lost their jobs. Read the thread I posted and then maybe you will understand.

No, there is nothing funny about having no faith in the institutions of your country. If this was another country I would think it was a failed state. Some of the victims have been told they have to wait until 2026 for a trial and no foreigners have been deported that I can see. Offenders out in a few years being seen by victims in the street. Cover ups left right and centre. These are race hate crimes and don't think they have been treated as that although would be if races reversed. So depressing.

OneAmberFinch · 06/01/2025 09:01

Atissues · 06/01/2025 08:19

Shocking.

They should be proud to publish the data on how many foreign groomer child rapist torturers have been deported because the answer should be "ALL OF THEM"!

Edited

I ve read the remit and a lot of the report, i followed the inquires launch closely in 2014.

Its a very full report, taking in previous reports on Rotherham etc.

"looked at CSE very broadly" what on earth do you think a national inquiry is about?
Have you even read the reports recommendations?

No i don't do X, its a cesspit of gossip.

There is too much rubbish on there to sort through, with no moderation or guidelines, let alone regulation and SM platforms like this, make CSE even easier.... hence one of the reports recommendations.

Why not implement the reports findings? and focus on prevention and investigation and get these scum men in jail and/or deported.

I feel "most" people on here want the same but i also think its now become a political football as well, bash the Tories/Bash Labour.....

If you read all of the article the Pakistan government is refusing to take them back. Much as I’d love to blame the previous government it does seem to have tried.

BIossomtoes · 06/01/2025 09:00

This is the UK, "lost a deportation appeal" doesn't imply they were actually, you know, deported!

As of Jan 2024 Rauf was out of jail and living in a nice three-bed semi in Rochdale - walking out and about among his victims.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/01/22/rochdale-grooming-ring-abusers-not-yet-deported/

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/01/23/shocking-failure-to-deport-child-groomer-britain-surrender/

"For Rauf to spend only two-and-a-half years in jail is a magnificent travesty of justice. The fact that he is still in the UK – after making a mockery of our deportation regime by opportunistically renouncing his Pakistani nationality after having his British citizenship removed to claim ‘statelessness’ – is a systems-level failure of epic proportions."
