To be suspicious of this receipt

DH is out at a hobby. While he is out I decided to put on a wash. I routinely empty DH trouser pockets before washing as they always have train tickets, receipts etc. In amongst everything was one for a £300 gift card for a large shopping complex. We don’t ever shop in this place as it is a distance away. I didn’t receive this gift card. Neither did his DS or DM as we spent Christmas together. This is a sizeable amount of money for us. I don’t know what to think.

I would want to know. Paid for on a joint or sole account?

AhBiscuits · 28/12/2024 16:28

Did he get it as a Christmas gift from work?
Surely he wouldn't give it to or receive it from another woman. It's a shit gift.

Neopetty · 28/12/2024 16:28

Bought via work's credit card for his team? Or on behalf of his boss who reimbursed via expenses?

Littletreefrog · 28/12/2024 16:28

What card was used to pay for it? Does he have a work cc? Is he self employed? Could it be a work thing?

Paid from his own account. He told me he lost his card so I’m not even sure how he managed to pay. The receipt says pin verified

I wouldn't immediately be suspicious but I'm nosey so o would ask. If it makes you doubt your husband there are probably other things that have done in the past?

Littletreefrog · 28/12/2024 16:30

Could be have bought the voucher then used it to buy presents? My DH buys ASDA vouchers then used them for the shopping as he gets the vouchers at a discounted price through his work.

MagnoliaTree142 · 28/12/2024 16:30

No, definitely not a work thing. They don’t have corporate cards. He finished work a week previous. This was bought 5 days before Christmas

Any chance he was in charge of buying a leaving gift for someone at work? Or a “reward” gift for someone’s bonus or something? If he wasn’t responsible for something like that, a work collection or school collection then… it’s a bit odd.

Did he buy anything at the shopping complex over Christmas? One near me does a thing that for every £100 in vouchers you buy, you get £10 voucher for free. Would he have taken advantage of an offer like that to get some extra vouchers to buy stuff?

Those are the only two innocent things I can think of. Because a gift like that is quite big and you’d only really give it to someone you’re close to, or want to treat to a bit of a shopping spree… like another woman.

If you can check his phone, do so. If not… I’d have to confront him about it. Good luck.

FloofyPaws · 28/12/2024 16:30

Ask him?

Hesonlyakidharry · 28/12/2024 16:31

Cross posted. So, not a work thing then. You have to talk to him. If you can’t do some snooping first.

MagnoliaTree142 · 28/12/2024 16:31

FloofyPaws · 28/12/2024 16:30

Ask him?

He is not here to ask and uncontactable while engaged in his hobby. I will of course ask him when he gets home

Does anything else about him make you suspicious?

Where was he supposed to be on said day?

MagnoliaTree142 · 28/12/2024 16:33

It’s definitely not work. All staff received a gift card from management which we talked about and he bought some Christmas supplies with.

It is highly unusual for him to spend such a large amount of money and not mention it.

must be something like this I reckon OP

Anothernamechane · 28/12/2024 16:34

How often does he do this hobby he’s uncontactable during? Does he have any nights away or regular nights out?

CrispyK · 28/12/2024 16:34

This is what I would think too.

leia24 · 28/12/2024 16:35

Does he have blue light or anything? There's something on there where you get a discount for some places but only if you buy a voucher rather than if you just spend the money. So if you spent 300 on a voucher you'd get a 10% discount but if you just spent 300 you'd get no discount

I'd already be suspicious about the gift card. But for him to have also paid for it on a card he actively lied about and said he'd lost?

No. Something is very off here.

Hollietree · 28/12/2024 16:36

Yes this would raise suspicion for me. Did he meet up with anyone or go awol for some time in those 5 days before Xmas?

If it were me I would casually ask him when he got back from the hobby. Watch his reaction very closely - is he calm and immediately has a reasonable explanation. Or does he look a bit startled and scramble to think of an explanation.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 28/12/2024 16:38

Well I know what I would think but my 'D'H has form! Did he do his shopping secretly? Could what he got you all be from this place? The voucher thing could explain it if your gifts could have come from the shopping place but if neither of you ever go there then it's a bit more unlikely..

CrispyK · 28/12/2024 16:38

I would just say that you put a wash on , came across that receipt & you kept it as you thought he might still need it? Then see what he says.

ChristmasinBrighton · 28/12/2024 16:40

Does he have form?

OnePeppyDenimHelper · 28/12/2024 16:40

Why wouldn't you just ask him
