To be suspicious of this receipt

DH is out at a hobby. While he is out I decided to put on a wash. I routinely empty DH trouser pockets before washing as they always have train tickets, receipts etc. In amongst everything was one for a £300 gift card for a large shopping complex. We don’t ever shop in this place as it is a distance away. I didn’t receive this gift card. Neither did his DS or DM as we spent Christmas together. This is a sizeable amount of money for us. I don’t know what to think.

Oh dear, it does make me think of the film Love Actually and Emma Thomson’s heart wrenching performance when she finds the jewellery that doesn’t end up being for her.
could he be gambling? Is he generally secretive. It’s not looking good. Even if innocent, he should have mentioned it .As you say it is a lot of money. Let us know particularly if it’s innocent. Good luck. X

OP already has 2 days ago! Why do people not even at least just read updates from an OP. Fair enough not scrolling through a whole thread (not that this one is very long) but there’s no need to not even bother to read OP’s updates

he could have picked up rubbish of the path.

Have you verified he has a hobby? And he lost his bank card then bought the gift card none of that adds up? unless he is in a submarine or in a space capsule ..why isn't he contactable. He has some questions to answer..

I don’t think gift cards are shit gifts - I love to receive them.

Especially those one-fo-all cards that cover loads of different shops 😊

Absolutely not @Tryingtokeepgoing I'm just not that wet behind the ears. Never heard such a tall tale and seen someone so willing to believe it Grin

Again, that says more about your and your relationship I think 😂

Have you read the thread? And the OPs update. He was playing golf, a perfectly normal hobby in which a round can take hours and one where it’s absolutely normal to not be contactable. He bought the gift card using Apple Pay. Which will show as pin verified as it uses either your face, fingerprint or PIN to authorise. And it was a thank you for a friend who’d done a lot of renovation work on their house. Which, when reminded by the husband she remembered. I’m not sure you could have missed any more points if you’d tried 🤣

I don't think so but then I trust nobody generally because we're all human.

The amount of women on Mumsnet who in one breath say " I KNOW my husband would never cheat on me..." and then a few months down the line are whining because they've caught their darling husband messaging somebody else.

I'm just a realist! Shit happens. And if it walks like a duck...

I didn't read further than the original post it said nothing about golf or the fact the poster recalled why the amount was paid. Since my post. Seven pages have been added and 171 answers have been added so NO I didn't read all of them after I posted

You can highlight just OP’s posts. It’s very handy.

Reading pages of comments is definitely unrealistic, but it’s easy and worthwhile to read just the OP’s updates. On the original post or any of the OP’s comments you can just tap this and it will show them all

GooglePay has the same limit for contactless cards in the UK, which is £100. However, Applepay has no limit.

SparklyPeachMama · 04/01/2025 18:43

So pleased it was all legit

InterestedDad37 · 04/01/2025 18:49

Personally I think it's a bit pathetic he can't empty his pockets before putting his trousers in the washbasket... My ex-wife was like this (I'm a bloke)... She's an ex now, so divorce is the only answer here 😉🤣

amenabel · 04/01/2025 19:12

he's awol right now

amenabel · 04/01/2025 19:15

it's common

Marvelftw · 04/01/2025 19:20

@JanglingJack We have them where I’m at in the south-east. They’re called one 4 all cards.

Eastie77Returns · 04/01/2025 19:29

I know this has been resolved now but I don’t know what it says about the world we live in when a woman finds a receipt in her husbands pocket and rather than just waiting to ask him about it, decides instead to write online so that dozens of complete strangers can give her their opinion.

JanglingJack · 28/12/2024 16:59

How can you have a gift card for an entire shopping centre?

Seperate stores within, okay, but just an all round, spend in anything anywhere under this roof? I've not seen one before.

Standard practice for large shopping centres

"verified he has a hobby"? jfc...

MischkasMum · 05/01/2025 10:19

Ask him straight out. If you empty his pockets on a regular basis, you weren't prying. If he says it was when he lost his card, he's obviously lying if it's pin-verified. Call his bluff and tell him to contact his bank about the transaction.
