DH is out at a hobby. While he is out I decided to put on a wash. I routinely empty DH trouser pockets before washing as they always have train tickets, receipts etc. In amongst everything was one for a £300 gift card for a large shopping complex. We don’t ever shop in this place as it is a distance away. I didn’t receive this gift card. Neither did his DS or DM as we spent Christmas together. This is a sizeable amount of money for us. I don’t know what to think.

That’s a relief op ! Thank god

Mystery solved. It was a gift card for a friend who recently helped us with some renovation work. He apologised and said he thought he had told me. I am good enough friend with the friend for him not to lie about this. The complex is close to this friend and they’ve just bought a house so all makes sense. Thank goodness

Ah I'm glad it all worked out. Well done for not being whipped up into a frenzy.

Just saw your update. Glad it worked out and was resolved!

WoolySnail · 28/12/2024 17:04

Pleased for you op. Have a great 2025 🥳

amoreoamicizia · 28/12/2024 17:04

A gift card isn’t really a romantic gift though, if you’re concerned it’s for another woman

Thankfully it's resolved now so I'll point out that I believe some cam/OF type girls etc. would take this kind of gift.

Spondoolies · 28/12/2024 17:04

Right does this make any sense - he has lost his bank card so is it possible for him to have bought the gift card online with his saved card details, picked up the gift card and the receipt at the shopping centre and then been able to use the gift card in the shops to do his Christmas shopping (as he wouldn’t have been able to without his bank card)

cross posted with update 😬

I haven’t been this disappointed since Christmas Day 1998

Now it's resolved I want to know the Outing Hobby. It's cycling, isn't it? 🚴‍♀️🙂

Did he get it as a Christmas gift from work?
Surely he wouldn't give it to or receive it from another woman. It's a shit gift.

I don’t think gift cards are shit gifts - I love to receive them.

MagneticSquirrel · 28/12/2024 17:08

Glad there is a good explanation!

As for people being suspicious of hobbies when you are uncontactable, most people are uncontainable which playing sport or swimming which are fairly common hobbies! Orchestra or choir performance would be another thing where having phone would be considered pretty bad form!

HopingForTheBest25 · 28/12/2024 17:09

How did he pay for it with his lost card?

GoodVibesHere · 28/12/2024 17:09

I'm glad it's resolved, but goodness me that's a hefty amount to spend on a gift for a friend!!

JanglingJack · 28/12/2024 16:59

How can you have a gift card for an entire shopping centre?

Seperate stores within, okay, but just an all round, spend in anything anywhere under this roof? I've not seen one before.

It's a thing, Westfield does it

livingafulllife · 28/12/2024 17:10

Do you have a birthday coming up maybe its that,

JanglingJack · 28/12/2024 17:10

@Frazzledmummy123 and @B1anche

Ooh, that's handy. To be fair our town shopping centre is so run down and shit that you'd struggle to spend 300.

Bogginsthe3rd · 28/12/2024 17:11

The Mumsnet vipers have lost their prey... for today. 😂

Quitelikeit · 28/12/2024 17:14

@Bogginsthe3rd not necessarily 😂😂😂 they’ll find someone else in no time

Pheww that’s a relief. Glad it’s nothing and I hope Hubby wasn’t upset about you quizzing him.

Churchill Square in Brighton you can buy a voucher for the whole place last time I went.

Of course you can get gift cards for entire shopping centres

Reddog1 · 28/12/2024 17:22

“your renovation guy requested a gift card payment in order to evade tax” was actually going to be my suggestion.
