Why do people get massive amounts of lip filler?

CobaltRewind · 24/12/2024 17:58

And AIBU to say it shouldn’t be allowed?

I would love to hear from someone who thinks it looks good on them and why?

Is it an addictive thing? Once you start you keep going bigger and bigger?

I have NO ISSUE with nips and tucks and women doing whatever makes them feel good but I do not understand lip filler it’s the one thing looks universally awful.

Because they obviously don't think it looks awful.

Duurrh.

Mercurial123 · 24/12/2024 18:00

You'll get people who have it, telling you theirs looks natural. It rarely does, especially the side profile.

TomorrowTodayYesterday · 24/12/2024 18:02

I would hazard a guess that every single person that has cosmetic surgery such as lip fillers will have self esteem issues, whether they're aware of it or not. I'd love there to be enforced mental health assessments before anyone is allowed to disfigure their natural looks in this way. It's really quite sad.

SocksAndTheCity · 24/12/2024 18:03

Maybe they like the way it looks? If you don't you don't have to have it, do you?

Hufflemuff · 24/12/2024 18:08

They're just so easily accessible now. We live in a little town and the local highstreet has closed a butchers and a pet shop and 2 aesthetic clinics have popped up. Not to mention all the mobile businesses in the area.

It's an easy tweak. Easier than a gym membership and cheaper/less daunting than actual cosmetic surgery.

I'm with you OP I've honestly never understood the appeal. Never liked the look - obvious, fake and you can always tell, even if just a small amount applied. Who wants to look fake? Lots of people obviously.

BloodandGlitter · 24/12/2024 18:12

They like it. That's all that matters. It's not for you and that's great but it's also great that it is for them.

BoobyDazzler · 24/12/2024 18:14

I don’t think the OP is talking about women who have a bit of filler as a “tweak” is she? Massive lips that look like the person is in the throws of an anaphylactic reaction to something is either mental illness or attention seeking, probably both.

thankfully, I think the trend is fading away.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 24/12/2024 18:15

@CobaltRewind they want to look like ducks?????

Anotherparkingthread · 24/12/2024 18:16

There's one of these threads every week. Have you honestly got nothing else to do or think about on Christmas eve? 😉

eklaljdj · 24/12/2024 18:16

This look is dying out a bit now, like the big slug eyebrows, I wonder if a more natural look is around the corner after what's been quite an intense overdone look.

SailingOnAWave · 24/12/2024 18:17

I hate the fake "art and craft" nails more, just so weird!

And filthy. The germs lurking in those things. Absolutely disgusting.

JHound · 24/12/2024 18:23

They get it because they like the way it looks.

HaddyAbrams · 24/12/2024 18:27

It's a vicious cycle. The more people have it, the more people think they have thin lips. So they get it. And so on. I've always been told I have beautiful full lips. They don't look so full in comparison these days. But I don't care!

They always look to me like a woman has been hit by something or someone and given a fat lip.

It’s an awful look. Goodness knows why people bother.

storminabuttercup · 24/12/2024 18:27

I have lip fillers, not massive amounts, the woman who does mine is a registered nurse and has been doing fillers 20 something years, she's super conscientious, she actually won't put 'loads' in anyone's lips. The vials usually come in certain doses, say 0.8ml or 1ml, she stops when there's enough regardless that I've technically 'paid' for it. And I'm just fine with that
I think the issue is you can qualify to stick this stuff in a few days, no medical training required and they undercut more experienced practitioners but then also I suppose some celebs don't to these high street ones and are still over filled.
I'm just saying it's a mix of people who want them to be massive and people going to very inexperienced techs

Why pay money to have fuller lips though? It just looks terrible. Does no one take you to one side and say how bad it looks? I have never seen any lips ever that have thought need to look fuller.

hattie43 · 24/12/2024 18:31

Lip fillers are the worst of all tweaks . They are rarely done well and look ridiculous.

UndeniablyGenXmasOfAWomblingMerryType · 24/12/2024 18:32

I blame filters. People get used to filters that exaggerate their features into whatever is deemed to look 'hot' at the moment, so they want what they see in the mirror to match the selfies on their phones.

SamanthaColemanWNTNews · 24/12/2024 18:32

I have a colleague who has it done. Seriously, it looks terrible. There's a weird crease just off centre of her top lip. Bizarre.

Imicola · 24/12/2024 18:35

I think nowadays the aim is for a look which to my eye is a bit strange looking. I used to think that was it having gone wrong... but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore, it seems that must be there intention. But even when I think it looks a bit more "natural", it is still very obvious in profile and always looks unnatural.

TheHateIsNotGood · 24/12/2024 18:37

@Bluebellsnbowbells good question. Why do some see 'fuller lips' as being more beautiful? It's a trend obviously but doesn't answer the wider question of who sets the barometers of 'beauty' and why do so many people feel the need to follow it.
