Why do people get massive amounts of lip filler?

CobaltRewind · 24/12/2024 17:58

And AIBU to say it shouldn’t be allowed?

I would love to hear from someone who thinks it looks good on them and why?

Is it an addictive thing? Once you start you keep going bigger and bigger?

I have NO ISSUE with nips and tucks and women doing whatever makes them feel good but I do not understand lip filler it’s the one thing looks universally awful.

I like to have 2ml because men like them and I don't like to work. I think it's funny when older women's husbands try to look at them discretely in front of them, these threads always tickle me

I hate to tell you this but people look/stare because they can’t believe how dreadful they look. My eyes are always drawn to them and it’s not in a good way.

It never looks natural or nice. I’d go as far as to say it makes naturally beautiful people look ugly.

Joelle84 · 25/12/2024 00:40

Looks awful

twobluehorses · 24/12/2024 23:36

Oh come on. This looks better after the lips have been done.

Each to their own but they don't look good to me at all. You can clearly see the migration in the corners of her mouth and they've got the weird lip filler shape, like a pringle.

Why do they look better? What was wrong with her lips before?

steff13 · 25/12/2024 01:03

The thing is you don't know how many people you know who had it when it's been done well because you didn't notice it. Also just because you don't like something doesn't mean that it shouldn't be allowed. Why does anybody think that's a reasonable position?

No, she looks like someone who has had filler in her lips, along with other procedures.

Mrsbloggz · 25/12/2024 01:16

I'm not keen on the overdone look, but as for the reason? Well, fashion & the folly of youth of course!

Edingril · 25/12/2024 01:32

BloodandGlitter · 24/12/2024 18:12

They like it. That's all that matters. It's not for you and that's great but it's also great that it is for them.

Unless the people getting the fake look stare in a mirror all day it is for other people as it is only other people that can see it

They get fake looks because they want to look fake, why? No one knows but the whole point of it is for others to see them that way

You can apply that logic to anything. Why does anyone bother to put on makeup? Brush their hair? Brush their teeth? Wear earrings?

TwigletsAndRadishes · 24/12/2024 23:08

And you think they are trying to look at you discretely because they find your lips attractive? I wouldn't assume that.

I am an 'older woman' and I can promise you my husband finds these over-pumped lips unattractive and ridiculous. If he was staring at you it wouldn't be for reasons you'd be flattered by.

My husband stares too. He whispers in my ear, “somebody looks like they’ve either been in a fight or they need an epi pen.”

localnotail · 25/12/2024 06:09

I honestly think these girls don't see themselves from the side, because from the side they look bloody awful and nothing like natural full lips.

I also don't understand why these fake ugly lips are usually smothered in copious amounts of lip gloss - this makes them even more disguising. Kind of reminds me of intestines or something even worse (not going to say on here).

Erm because things you've mentioned make you look better, not worse. I never seen obvious fake lips that made anyone look better.

user8889932902 · 25/12/2024 06:15

I get my lips done (not by a massive amount though) and I do it because I love the way it looks. I couldnt give a rat's ass if you or anyone else dont like it or think it looks stupid- you are perfectly entitled to your opinion, just as I am entitled to mine.

I am quite sure I might not like the way you look in real life either - we are all different

Princessfluffy · 25/12/2024 07:55

It's the patriarchy
Women gain rewards in society by hitting the beauty standards of the day.
The look is designed to appeal to men.
I feel sorry for young women as the pressure to conform to this in order to make progress in the world is intense.

September1013 · 25/12/2024 08:21

It’s rare that lip filler isn’t noticeable even at small volumes. The outside of the lip doesn’t grow bigger, it just stretches and pushes outwards from the face. It’s generally very obvious from the side even if not from the front.

Obviously people can do whatever they want to their faces but I do find it sad that as a society we are so hung up on looks that people will pay money to have chemicals injected into their faces to make themselves look “better”, and I worry at the unattainable standards being role modelled to young girls.

ppqqrrss · 25/12/2024 10:17

@twobluehorses disagree completely!

Also in an age where tons of women want to look uniformly the same (lip implants, filler etc) those who have natural beauty actually stand out much more and look more beautiful, as they don't have the same puffy clone face.

I think it's a tragedy for women to be honest in so many ways that they feel they have to do this ridiculous thing to themselves, to "improve" themselves when 99.99 times out of 100 it is completely unnecessary.

How many men genuinely like the look?

LunaTheCat · 25/12/2024 10:59

LindorDoubleShot. .. I think it was profhilo. I had 0.7 mls injected . It has worked really really well an am absolutely delighted!

Mittens67 · 25/12/2024 11:03

Seems to be a class element.
Just from seeing crappy reality programmes recently many of the essex crowd have weird lips and eyebrows but not the chelsea lot

Princessfluffy · 25/12/2024 11:22

I think a lot of men do like the look but don't realise it's not natural. When it's overdone, not so much probably.

Princessfluffy · 25/12/2024 11:24

It's also part of trend cycles in beauty standards for example
small bum -> big bum
Plucked eyebrows -> huge eyebrows
Etc

Princessfluffy · 25/12/2024 11:26

@Mittens67 it's easier to opt out of the beauty standard if you have wealth, education, opportunity and connections.

I actually prefer the before lips. Top lip looks overfilled and her mouth looks sloppy. If she’s had a nose job, that looks good though!

Pyjamatimenow · 25/12/2024 11:30

I don’t think it looks universally bad. Some people have very thin lips that benefit from a little but yes most people with lots in look bad. I’ve got quite big lips but I had some in to try and fill out a scar and even things up a bit. I did hate it. Felt ridiculous permanently pouting. Luckily it displaced quite quickly

Men like them because they are the hallmark of the bimbo/airhead who will do anything to please a man, ditto obviously fake breast implants.
Men like the porn star look because they like porn, in other words they see women as objects to be exploited and they see you as a woman who is signaling that you are willing to be exploited.

Englishrosegarden · 25/12/2024 12:15

It's the constant licking that gets to me. Every time I see someone with these awful implants their tongue is constantly flicking out and licking them. Just watch any of the celebs/reality stars with lip implants for a few mins and you'll see what I mean.
I watched an interesting documentary on lip and face filler. It doesn't all dissolve and it migrates throughout your face and can end up in the lymphatic sytem. Way too many unknowns for my liking.
