Why do people get massive amounts of lip filler?

And AIBU to say it shouldn’t be allowed?

I would love to hear from someone who thinks it looks good on them and why?

Is it an addictive thing? Once you start you keep going bigger and bigger?

I have NO ISSUE with nips and tucks and women doing whatever makes them feel good but I do not understand lip filler it’s the one thing looks universally awful.

How many men genuinely like the look?

I agree. I honestly don't believe many do like it.

I've only ever heard disparaging comments made about trout lips - obviously not in earshot of the person, to be clear.

Oh come on. This looks better after the lips have been done.

They do look better, yes. But they aren't ridiculously over-exaggerated. Just enhancing, in a good way.

Beetlebumz · 25/12/2024 21:04

I have never seen one person it looks good on. The worst view is from the side, it really looks like a duck's bill. It also makes the person look really gormless and unintelligent..can't say why, it's just honestly how I feel when I look at someone with those over filled lips

IME it seems to be young women, often single parents, who like to look like they've spent money. So the natural look is no good as no one would know they'd had it done. Same with overly dark tinted brows and long acrylic nails. I don't know why they need people to think that, an insecurity I suppose. Same reason a colleague on minimum wage has just nearly killed herself with stress to spend £1k on her 9yo for Xmas, including a £350 Boss jacket - madness!

This is one of the most ridiculous things I've read 😅😅😅.

TwinklyAmberOrca · 25/12/2024 21:29

They look awful! Like they've had a nasty incident with a vacuum cleaner.

A male friend said he quite liked them, but upon further questioning as he was smirking, turns out he likes them because he thinks it would add to the BJ sensation. 🤣🤣🤣. Basically some he would sleep with but never date.

Gowlett · 25/12/2024 21:32

In my job as work with young women. One set I work with all have the lips, fluttery eyelashes & dyed black hair. The other lot wear no make-up, are fresh-faced & have natural shiny hair. They look much better! I was fresh-faced at that age. And I had big lips anyway, lucky me! They’re still holding up some-what.

Women my age (48) & older who have lip fillers… And the rest. I think the heavy Botox brow is the worst look. Especially when the rest of your face is jowly! It all looks terrible…

I like to have 2ml because men like them and I don't like to work.

Do they? I have naturally big lips but men are usually too busy looking at my breasts to notice my mouth tbh.

Really? Me too.

RaveToTheGrave1 · 25/12/2024 21:52

I don't get it at all, the women I know, including friends and family, that have it done all end up looking the bloody same! Massive lips and like weirdly stretched faces that look too shiny cos they can't seem to stop at just lips

Yes I know, there's a particular sort of homogenous face that a certain type of woman has now and they all look identical. It's really very unsettling.

I'm terrified of mannequins and they really remind me of them, that uncanny valley thing!

I think it's a combination of the 'turkish' or 'barbie' nose i.e. small and slightly upturned, lip and cheek fillers, botox and jaw augmentation. Kylie Jenner is a good example.

My husband stares too. He whispers in my ear, “somebody looks like they’ve either been in a fight or they need an epi pen.”

Your husband sounds awful.

Coalplay · 26/12/2024 16:49

I’ve had it.
can really see how it gets addictive

EllieRosesMammy · 26/12/2024 17:00

YABU to say it shouldn't be allowed. Everyone is entitled to do what they want with their own bodies, just like you're entitled to do what you want with your own. I've never had any cosmetic surgery, fillers or anything like that but if other women (or even men) want to because it makes them feel more confident then that's completely up to them! :)

Aibuquestiononrelationship · 26/12/2024 17:09

TomorrowTodayYesterday · 24/12/2024 18:02

I would hazard a guess that every single person that has cosmetic surgery such as lip fillers will have self esteem issues, whether they're aware of it or not. I'd love there to be enforced mental health assessments before anyone is allowed to disfigure their natural looks in this way. It's really quite sad.

This.

Low self esteem issues maybe. I imagine with lip filler they all think it looks great that's why they have it I suppose?

As long as it doesn't hurt others, let them get on with it.

ppqqrrss · 24/12/2024 18:49

"often single parents" nice bit of stigmatising there. As a single parent I have to disagree!

I'm a single parent too...I'm not saying single parents get lip filler, I'm saying the women I know with lip filler tend to be younger, single mothers, anecdotally

OhMehGoddess · 26/12/2024 20:34

Each to their own!

But I don't get it and the huge eyebrows. I would never say anything to someone, but I just don't see how anyone thinks it looks good.

Coalplay · 26/12/2024 20:37

Here are mine right after. Before top obv

straight after they’re swollen then reduce over days . I liked them as they made me look less “pinched”

eklaljdj · 26/12/2024 20:51

@Coalplay they don't look awful after, but your lips were absolutely lovely before, you've traded a natural look where you've been blessed with lovely lips to lips that people will know are fake?

eklaljdj · 26/12/2024 20:53

But I don't get it and the huge eyebrows.

This look is dying out now, just need the brushed up eyebrows to have their day and maybe we'll get some semblance of normality...

worcesterpear · 26/12/2024 20:56

Low self esteem/mental illness

Pumpkincozynights · 26/12/2024 21:01

Surely it’s more to do with social media/ societal pressure.
The more normalised, the more women do it.
Same as fashion. I’ve seen some things and thought hmmm that’s an odd choice. Then see other people wearing the same thing. Then even more people. Then it kind of becomes acceptable and before you know it the majority of people are wearing those items.

Bakedpotatoes · 26/12/2024 21:38

Bluebellsnbowbells · 24/12/2024 18:31

Why pay money to have fuller lips though? It just looks terrible. Does no one take you to one side and say how bad it looks? I have never seen any lips ever that have thought need to look fuller.

This is rude. Badly done or over done lips can look terrible but tweakments you wouldn't even notice so perhaps this is what the pp had done?

eklaljdj · 26/12/2024 21:58

Just watching the Outnumbered special, look how skinny Karen's eyebrows are!

BashfulClam · 26/12/2024 22:12

My colleague had a very small amount done in her top lip to balance her mouth as she had a much thicker bottom lip and it actually looks quite natural as it’s such a small amount. I see a young girl every day on the train who had ridiculous over the top puffed lips. I feel sad seeing her as she is actually very pretty but the daft lips ruin it.
