gives you the ick?

It seems very popular on Mumsnet. Do you stay in the ones you slept in or shower and put on fresh ones?

I don't really care what people do in the comfort of their homes on a national holiday. I would get dressed personally but if people want to wear PJs on Christmas Day they can crack on.

I know this isn't a Christmas Day scenario but I do draw the line at people wearing PJs to the shops or outdoors or leaving them on when they have guests over. There's something performatively slummy about it which gives me the ick. Particularly if it involves wearing novelty dinosaur slippers.

Lemon1111 · 20/11/2024 19:47

About an hour after Christmas Dinner I change into my pyjamas, I guess this usually would be around 4/5pm. I will wear a nice dress to open presents and have Christmas lunch, but I definitely love changing into pyjamas to play games and watch Xmas films. It’s one day in a year so enjoy yourself how you wish even if that’s wearing pjs all day!

Beamur · 20/11/2024 19:47

I really can't see the appeal of wearing PJ's all day.

worcesterpear · 20/11/2024 19:47

I don't wear pyjamas but in theory if I did, I would get dressed sometime around lunchtime Or get dressed in 'loungewear' type at the start of the day.

housemaus · 20/11/2024 19:48

LuckySantangelo35 · 20/11/2024 19:46

Why on earth WOULDNT you get dressed?!

Because you're (probably) at home, comfy, and chilling out?

itsgettingweird · 20/11/2024 19:48

I'd love nothing more than getting up Xmas day, presents and breakfast, a long bath and then into some Christmas loungewear types bottoms and a Xmas hoody and to curl up on the sofa eating crap and watching shite tv!

However we visit relatives so getting dressed is a must!

I won't deny it's always a smart pair of black leggings and a xmas jumper though Grin

My pjs are on within about 5 minutes if getting home too 😂

Notyouthful · 20/11/2024 19:48

Families that wear matching PJs is so Insta-sad

I don’t wear PJs beyond breakfast, even if ill. Have an Oodie for days like this

Orangelight23 · 20/11/2024 19:48

Ick. Dressed up, make up and pop the bubbles in this house.

theeyeofdoe · 20/11/2024 19:48

We get dressed up!
i don’t know anyone who does pjs.

DramaAlpaca · 20/11/2024 19:49

I don't even possess a pair of pyjamas.

I get up, hop in the shower, then get dressed.

CornishIrish · 20/11/2024 19:49

FierceQuiet · 20/11/2024 19:21

But why not just wear clothes?

It’s a statement of intent 😆

stargirl1701 · 20/11/2024 19:50

No. Christmas Day is busy with extended family. Boxing Day is THE day for PJs!

okayhescereal · 20/11/2024 19:50

Ick. I don't even get downstairs in my pjs most days. Much prefer being up and dressed. Just me though. DH would happily wear PJ's all day.

NerrSnerr · 20/11/2024 19:50

theeyeofdoe · 20/11/2024 19:48

I have no idea what people I don't spend Christmas Day with wear. Maybe I need to do a survey of friends, family and colleagues. Is it something that comes up in conversation often?

70sShmeventies · 20/11/2024 19:51

I can see the appeal, but that might be because I have a 3 and 5yo and rest is in short supply. In reality, it would make me lethargic and I’d miss the ‘theatre’ of getting dressed up for Christmas day. Once dinner and pudding is eaten, I usually change out of my ‘nice’ outfit into pjs though, this is about 4/5pm.

Sakurai · 20/11/2024 19:53

I've already bought my sparkly skater dress for Christmas Day 😀

Only wear nightwear because kids get in with us during the night but otherwise I'd be naked or in just knickers. Don't do pjs.

Also a bra is a must during daylight hours!

Notyouthful · 20/11/2024 19:55

One of my 8 Xmas jumpers and elasticated waist trousers.

GoldenLegend · 20/11/2024 19:58

I go for a two-hour walk on Christmas day, unless it is really pouring with rain, so no. Anyway, I wear nightdresses so it would be a tad draughty!

Parker231 · 20/11/2024 19:59

Comedycook · 20/11/2024 19:31

No definitely not. I get dressed and like to wear something nice. I'm also a massive weirdo because I actually like to see family and heaven forbid, leave my house.

We will see family. We will have 17 of us together from three generations - all in pj’s. We have an annual competition based on a theme and with everyone scoring- it’s hilarious!

GiddyRobin · 20/11/2024 20:01

Yep! PJ all day here! Like fuck am I spending all of Christmas Day wearing normal clothes. 😂

In all seriousness, we live part of the time in Norway (DH is Norwegian), and Christmas Eve is the big shin-dig there. So we have loads of guests and it's huge and lovely but very tiring. The next day, we do British Christmas. Up early, open the presents with the kids over a brew and maybe a little glass of fizz (not for the kids, obviously), then we get a shower and put on fresh PJ's.

MIL comes around for a buffet (I gave up cooking a roast, I'd rather play with the kids and so would DH), and she even brings her own! 😂 Love it.

When I was a kid, we'd get new clothes and wear them for a bit but it always felt a bit like a waste because we didn't see anyone! So we stopped that by the time I was mid teens.

Sod trusting myself up in proper clothes when I'm down on the floor building lego towers, chasing after kids and tickling them, stuffing myself with pasties and pastries and cheese!

kittensinthekitchen · 20/11/2024 20:02

We stay in the same pjs all day that we get from Santa on Xmas Eve and put on about teatime after a shower.

Couldn't actually give a fuck if a Mumsnetter finds that "ick".

coxesorangepippin · 20/11/2024 20:02

Not my thing at all

Up and at em

Doggymummar · 20/11/2024 20:04

We have crimble jamas we wear all day

Cynic17 · 20/11/2024 20:06

Actually, not only does spending all of Xmas Day in PJs sound good, but I'd quite like to spend all of Xmas Day in bed! As long as I also have a stack of books, a radio, and access to snacks. Door firmly locked, and absolutely no visitors. Perfect!

Scrimt · 20/11/2024 20:09

I'm another who's only encountered this on MN. A whole family prancing about in their pyjamas all day? Nah. If an entire family unit can give one the ick, that'd do it for me.
