gives you the ick?

It seems very popular on Mumsnet. Do you stay in the ones you slept in or shower and put on fresh ones?

Sounds like a normal working day to me. Get up, showered, clean pjs. I only get dressed to walk the dog.

BeeCucumber · 20/11/2024 19:30

We don't own pyjamas so we just wear clothes on Christmas Day. I don't think we are missing anything 🤷‍♀️

Comedycook · 20/11/2024 19:31

No definitely not. I get dressed and like to wear something nice. I'm also a massive weirdo because I actually like to see family and heaven forbid, leave my house.

Enko · 20/11/2024 19:31

Not for me. Doesn't give me the ick I've no beef with anyone else that does. However I don't like being in pj's apart from in bed.

Ponoka7 · 20/11/2024 19:32

FierceQuiet · 20/11/2024 19:21

But why not just wear clothes?

Because pj's are very comfortable. If you don't spend out on them, it doesn't matter if you spill food etc on them.
We have, some years we all wear the Alderhey charity ones. I wear pj's when I'm not leaving the house. None of us sleep in the pj's we wear during the day, unless under 7. All the adults get showered etc and then put them on. There's posters on here who don't wash before they put clothes on, so I don't know why there's the negativity towards pajamas.

Itsmeamandaberry · 20/11/2024 19:32

Love a PJ day but not at Christmas even when it's just been the 3 of us we still got a bit dressed up.

Pyjamas are clothes.

BubblePerm · 20/11/2024 19:32

No, but I am getting a nice, new dress for Christmas Day and I am a little bit excited.
It's not from anywhere special, but I like it and am looking forward to wearing something that has caught my eye.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 20/11/2024 19:32

I like to get dressed up on Xmas day. Boxing Day is a day for staying in pyjamas.

Notbinday · 20/11/2024 19:33

Hate it.

ObtuseMoose · 20/11/2024 19:33

Oh gosh no, I couldn't eat a sprout in anything less than taffeta.

Needmorelego · 20/11/2024 19:33

@FierceQuiet
To be honest.....lets face it....
Pyjamas and Loungewear are pretty much the SAME THING. They are just clothes.
Leggings + a loose t-shirt.
Haram style trousers + a loose top
Pj bottoms + a loose top.
What is the difference?

SemmaLina · 20/11/2024 19:34

Gosh no , we usually have new pyjamas on Christmas Eve , but to wear at night , not in the daytime
Just wear nice clothes ( me , usually ankle length black skirt ( which has elastic waist ) and red cashmere jumper ( to match my face as I’m cooking )
The DC are grown up , last year only one of them here , but the 3 of us made an effort , and it was lovely

Debtfreegoals · 20/11/2024 19:40

As soon as the social aspect is done (parents and in laws) it’s bra off and jammies on and this pretty much doesn’t change till I’m back to work in Jan.

MightyGoldBear · 20/11/2024 19:40

My Christmas day starts at 4am I am definitely in pj's then. I used to love getting dressed up for Christmas but with young children who want to cuddle and play on the floor with toys. Lounge wear or pj's is much more comfortable than say sequins.

Not to mention I need reconstructive surgery so pretty much all clothes are painful for me but looser loungwear/ pyjamas are less so.

So I could absolutely spend all day in some fresh new pj's. Exactly what we did on the best Christmas ever over lockdown. (We didnt have to visit anyone 🥳)

mamaduckbone · 20/11/2024 19:43

No, I'd feel weird.
I quite like to get a bit dressed up, although has to be comfy too.

Patienceinshortsupply · 20/11/2024 19:44

Large family all come home to us (the parents) and we all get dressed up. I love being in a nice sparkly outfit and wafting round with a glass of Baileys. What other day of the year can you do that on!

I've never met anyone in RL who wore PJ's all day Hmm

Itoldyousoo · 20/11/2024 19:44

The best day ever although you do shower and change into clean PJs at some point.

Hallo 😂

Witchofthenorth · 20/11/2024 19:45

PJs all the way at our house. Why not? We don't host anyone but the kids, I'll have nice PJs on and they will be clean ones after I have showered. I get changed into them after work everyday but we are boring and once we are all home we don't go out again. If I do, eg one of the kids needs a lift, I'll throw clothes back on. My day doesn't get closed down just because I have changed into PJs, more that I want to be comfortable.

If there is one day when you can just be really comfy then it's Xmas day surely? No judgement here, everyone can do what they want to do.

SwanSong1 · 20/11/2024 19:45

Why not if you're not going anywhere? I don't care what anyone thinks

housemaus · 20/11/2024 19:45

My childhood Christmases were like this - we would maybe put our new clothes on to eat Christmas dinner (which we always had late in the day, about 6pm), but not always. Christmas day in our family was about being cosy and doing very little other than spending time together - we weren't up super early, we didn't go for a nice bracing walk etc, we never went visiting relatives or to the pub or church or anything that I see other families do. It felt like a really special bubble of a day where it was just us.

I loved it and miss it now, because as an adult we now spend Christmas going between my mum's and DH's dad's, so I never get the pyjamas-all-day Christmas of my childhood!

mitogoshigg · 20/11/2024 19:46

Sorry it's icky unless you are sick. Not that I own pj's can't see the point

LuckySantangelo35 · 20/11/2024 19:46

Why on earth WOULDNT you get dressed?!
