gives you the ick?

It seems very popular on Mumsnet. Do you stay in the ones you slept in or shower and put on fresh ones?

I would find it uncomfortable, cold and quite horrible.

Clafoutie · 20/11/2024 20:11

No definitely not. I get dressed and like to wear something nice. I'm also a massive weirdo because I actually like to see family and heaven forbid, leave my house.

Steady on there! Do you also answer your door and speak on the phone? 😃

EvilNextDoor · 20/11/2024 20:12

Sounds like a fantastic idea! I have ordered us all matching Christmas PJ’s which will be given out on Christmas Eve.

I might suggest it for this year, I am planning on locking the front door on Christmas Eve and literally not leaving the house for at least a few days…no visitors, just me DH our teens and animals, some delicious food, booze and fire blazing (Obviously someone will walk the dogs)

Sounds rather heavenly for us we need some downtime and family time after a horrific year

AshCrapp · 20/11/2024 20:16

I like dressing up and looking nice at Christmas. This year I'll be wearing a red velvet dress and sparkly boots.

pinkpedi · 20/11/2024 20:17

I put pjs on as soon as I'm home and not going out again no matter what time it is.
Although I never sleep in pjs, it's just my version of comfy, warm loungewear
If home all day. I would put a clean pair on after showering in the morning

Stretchedresources · 20/11/2024 20:18

Sadly not here. Out to parkrun at 8:30am then back home for a shower and cosy tracksuit. It's just me and dc's so no one dresses up.

foxy86 · 20/11/2024 20:19

once we have opened presents I’ll be getting in the shower and putting my brand new pjs and slippers on, drinking Prosecco whilst I cook dinner and then stuffing my face with any chocolates I have been given. Every other day of the year I get up and get dressed. I allow myself to be a slob on Christmas Day only. Only 3 of us and no guests, so why not 🤷‍♀️.

pilates · 20/11/2024 20:19

Ick like to dress nicely on Christmas Day

fivebyfivebuffy · 20/11/2024 20:20

Probably pjs for me but I won't be seeing anyone
I will get dressed at some point to exercise then likely a bath and into clean pjs

icebearforpresident · 20/11/2024 20:20

I’ve never done it on Christmas Day but I have been known to have a pyjama day. I don’t necessarily plan one but especially on a Sunday when there’s nothing doing I want to have a lazy morning so lounge about in them while I have breakfast and a cup of tea or two and then it’s lunchtime then there comes a point where it’s not really worth getting dressed. I don’t open up the outer door so no one knows we are home but I will brush my teeth and wash my face as usual. Usually about 4pm I’ll have a shower and put on a fresh pair of pyjamas.

Going for a walk on Christmas Day is my idea of absolute hell though. I want to get up, crack into the Buck’s Fizz at 9am, eat and fall asleep on the couch.

Saschka · 20/11/2024 20:21

Sounds cold to me, but DS8 has Christmas Day all planned out, and is determined that he’s going to wear PJs all day. So somebody is promoting the idea that it is decadent to sit around eating Christmas Dinner in your nightie.

DocileWimps · 20/11/2024 20:22

I can't understand why anyone would want to wear pyjamas all day. It would feel a bit grubby and lazy to me.

If you can be arsed to get showered and changed, you might as well dress properly.

Surely, the only reason you would stay in pyjamas all day is because you can't be bothered to wash and change. That is pretty gross. The whole family loafing around humming and stinking all day. It sounds like a rather depressing way to spend Christmas Day to me.

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 20/11/2024 20:24

If that's what we wanted yes?. We usually slop around then get dressed for dinner to mark a Christmas dinner

CandyStripedCookieJar · 20/11/2024 19:02

I love staying in comfortable clothes all day at other times of year. Usually get my top half dressed but wear joggers or pyjama bottoms when I am at home all the time but not on Christmas day. I love to get dressed up for Christmas

Exactly the same. We usually go to my sister’s and it’s lovely to get dressed up. Rest of year: a t shirt and pj bottoms

LizzoBennett · 20/11/2024 20:25

Nope. PJ days are for sickness in our house. I came from a working class family and I'm married to a middle class partner. It was definitely a much bigger thing in my family that we dress smartly and visited grandparents when I was growing up. My DH would never spend all of Christmas day in PJs though. My 4YO would definitely stay in PJs all day if he could! My 1YO too...

I actually answer the phone when the number is withheld 😂

Why on earth WOULDNT you get dressed?!

If you aren't seeing anyone, why WOULD you?

The idea of Christmas Day in my pyjamas all day gives me the ick, yeah. I mean, make a bit of an effort! Besides, spending your day in pyjamas is what Boxing Day is for!

Edited

We shower first before getting dressed in our special pj’s! Nothing gross about having fun with the extended family.

sparklyfox · 20/11/2024 20:27

Nope, because the best part of Christmas for me is going to church in the morning, and then a walk in the afternoon.

I think my Christmas pj’s cost a couple of hundred dollars- I think the time and effort I put into finding exactly the right pair was good effort for a special day with the family.

We don’t have Boxing Day as a bank holiday - it’s a work day.

QuestionableMouse · 20/11/2024 20:29

Well I sleep naked so out fresh PJ's on when I get up. I'm even going to drive to my sister's in them on Christmas day and will be in them all day. I can't relax properly in clothes in the house.

ForGreyKoala · 20/11/2024 20:30

I live alone and will be spending Christmas Day alone. No way will I be spending the day in my pyjamas 😦The only time I don't get dressed in the morning is if I am ill and want to stay in bed.

GroovyChick87 · 20/11/2024 20:31

I rarely have a pj day but if I do, I have to have a bath or shower and be in fresh ones, not the ones I've slept in. We don't go out on Christmas day but I get dressed and then get into pj bottoms quite early and after all visitors have gone.

ChocolateTelephone · 20/11/2024 20:31

It doesn’t give me the ick, but it’s not my preference. I like to be comfortable but actually dressed during the day (especially as we do a decent walk) and then we dress up a little for dinner in the evening.

Staying in my pyjamas all day always makes me feel a bit lethargic and gross, but it’s just a personal preference!
