gives you the ick?

It seems very popular on Mumsnet. Do you stay in the ones you slept in or shower and put on fresh ones?

I can't understand why anyone would want to wear pyjamas all day. It would feel a bit grubby and lazy to me.

If you can be arsed to get showered and changed, you might as well dress properly.

Surely, the only reason you would stay in pyjamas all day is because you can't be bothered to wash and change. That is pretty gross. The whole family loafing around humming and stinking all day. It sounds like a rather depressing way to spend Christmas Day to me.

Edited

If you read the thread, you'll see the vast majority do shower and then change...into fresh PJ's! Why? Because they're comfy, warm (what kind are people buying to be cold?), and it's about the only day of the year some people can and do!

Like I posted earlier, we do the dress up on Christmas Eve. NYE will be the same. Boxing Day here is a birthday party. One day to sit and be comfortable and (MN seems to really hate this one <pinches nose and dives in>) snuggly!

😁

Ah, you edited can't to can, but either way! Point still stands. It's snuggly 😆

Runnersandtoms · 20/11/2024 20:35

I don't mind slobbing around in pjs on a lazy morning or an evening but Christmas day is for dressing up in sparkles in our house.

doodleschnoodle · 20/11/2024 20:35

Kids will probably wear them all day. I'll probably change to hoodie and leggings but if I get nice new PJs maybe I'll change into those! DH doesn't own pyjamas.

Runnersandtoms · 20/11/2024 20:36

Otherwise Christmas photos would all be of pjs. We like to get nice group family photos on Christmas day...

We do Christmas Day photos in our pj’s. We have a theme each year and fun looking back at previous years to see what everyone chose.

stargazerlil · 20/11/2024 20:41

Yes wear em, it’s ok if you call it Loungewear 👍

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 20/11/2024 20:43

I would but I’m going to church and my in-laws

DiamondGoldandSilver · 20/11/2024 20:43

I like to look smart on Christmas day but will change into something more comfortable by early evening. Boxing day is the day for pjs

MikeRafone · 20/11/2024 20:44

go for a 15/20 miles bike ride and then come back and shower ready for presents in new pjs about 10.30 - stay in pjs the rest of the day and drink cocktails, watch Netflix and have dinner

but this year im going out for lunch, which has rather thrown me as I need to get dressed

ImthatBoleyngirl · 20/11/2024 20:46

I love my PJs but I like to get a bit dressed up for Xmas day, even though it's just me, DH and DCs at home

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 20/11/2024 20:48

Nice new pyjamas for Christmas morning (got some from Fable and Eve for this year. Then shower and ready by 11am latest. I like to dress up a bit on Christmas Day. Definitely no pyjamas all day. Don’t judge others who want to though.

Arraminta · 20/11/2024 20:54

No. No. No.

I have to be seriously ill to wear PJs all day. Growing up, we always got dressed up on Christmas Day, so it would feel very wrong to slob about all day. I love clothes and my outfits reflect my mood, so Christmas Day is the perfect chance to go full blown fancy.

We're going out for Christmas lunch this year at our favourite gastro pub, so I need to decide on my outfit. Our DDs will no doubt get glamorous and DH will wear smart jeans and a naice shirt.

But when we get home we will change into something much more comfy, but never PJs.

You 'pyjamas are too thin' people need to discover brushed cotton.

Up. Parkrun. Home. Shower. Fresh clean pyjamas. Probably White Company ones. There's no formal Christmas dinner at a table here anyway. We do that on the 24th.

my pyjamas need to be light. I get too hot in bed at night. clothes are also warm and my wardrobe is full of them so I wear them
getting dresses kicks start your brain that the day is starting. one of the good things our work during covid is explain the affect routine like getting up shower wash teeth dress etc has on your mental health. it doesn't have to be full on galmorur but comfy clothes. on Xmas day depending on what we are doing I will wear something nice. even last year was just me and my husband I wore a Xmas hoody. pyjamas are dsougned to be worn under a duvet.

GoodLaudanum · 20/11/2024 20:58

No thanks.

Feels really skanky.

We like to dress up a little sparkly and dance in the kitchen with fizz. It wouldnt feel the same in flannelette.

pestowithwalnuts · 20/11/2024 21:03

We call them snuggies..ie not pjs but a comfy looser pair of trousers and a loose comfy long line top..and no bra..

Threelittleduck · 20/11/2024 21:06

I love a pyjama day (very rarely happens) but not on Christmas Day. We always see people on Christmas Day anyway but even if we didn't I'd still get dressed.

QueSyrahSyrah · 20/11/2024 21:13

@Wexone To be fair the Parkrun I mention in my Christmas Day routine does the job of kick-starting my brain that the day has begun and boosting my mental health. What I choose to put on afterwards is by the by.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 20/11/2024 21:26

I don’t really like it if I don’t go outside somewhere on Christmas Day. So I wouldn’t stay in PJs or put them back on in the middle of the day.

Also, I usually have a drink on Christmas Day and I wouldn’t like to drink in PJs

dutysuite · 20/11/2024 21:32

When I was a child we always had Christmas clothes bought for us and we’d all get dressed up on Christmas Day. Unless we have people over my teens refuse to get dressed and will lounge around in there PJs on Christmas Day, but they look more lounge wear. I’m not fussed about it. My father would never been seen in PJs around the house on a day off or on Christmas, even on weekends he is up at the crack of dawn showered and dressed, I love lounging around in my PJs.

RaininSummer · 20/11/2024 21:35

QuestionableMouse · 20/11/2024 20:32

I would freeze wearing those on a winter day but fine in bed under 13 5 togs with a hot water bottle.

Needmorelego · 20/11/2024 21:35

This is a pair of PJ's from the Primark website.
Seriously what is the difference between this and a top and trousers?

I don't really do pyjamas as such, but I definitely have "round the house" clothes like hoodies/oodie and yoga pants/tracky bottoms/leggings. The dress code for anyone who comes for Christmas Day is Christmas Jumper and either Santa Hat or antlers. Yes, I know its cheesy it is tradition, along with singing along to Muppet Christmas Carol on Christmas eve.

hopeishere · 20/11/2024 21:39

My kids don't wear pjs so get dressed. Plus we go out to my sisters. I will get dressed up but will get into pjs about 8pm!

Like a pp I don't even stay in them at the weekend. Once I'm up I get dressed. I find wandering round in them until 11 odd.

The difference between them and normal clothes is the fabric is generally thinner and you probably don't have a bra on.

PassingStranger · 20/11/2024 21:42

I saw a woman out in her pyjamas and dressing gown the other day.
I can't really understand that tbh.
What people wear in their own home is none of my business and I couldn't care less.
