gives you the ick?

It seems very popular on Mumsnet. Do you stay in the ones you slept in or shower and put on fresh ones?

I dress up for Christmas! Something sparkly and exciting that I can’t really wear any other time of year.

Life is too short, where sparky, exciting clothes whatever day you want to wear them.

Ethylred · 20/11/2024 19:15

You begin Christmas by giving each other a beautiful new suit of pyjamas and then continue by rolling around, either in the pyjamas or out of them, drinking champagne, eating smoked salmon and ordering in Chinese food for dinner. Anything else is treasonous deviation.

tobee · 20/11/2024 19:15

I'm doing the cooking and don't cook in pjs. Love them the rest of the time though

MumOfOneAllAlone · 20/11/2024 19:15

Guilty 🤭

We will shower/bath before bed

NerrSnerr · 20/11/2024 19:15

I think I get dressed properly every Christmas, last year my son spent the whole day just wearing pants though (he was 6 last Christmas).

Each to their own, where what makes you happy/ comfortable.

Flipflopclop · 20/11/2024 19:15

If I didn't have the horses to do/dogs to walk, i would stay in them. Have been known to do it with pj's on & waterproofs over them, come home, shower & change into new clean ones though.

VestaTilley · 20/11/2024 19:18

No way; we all dress up nicely for Christmas Day.

QueSyrahSyrah · 20/11/2024 19:19

You 'pyjamas are too thin' people need to discover brushed cotton.

Up. Parkrun. Home. Shower. Fresh clean pyjamas. Probably White Company ones. There's no formal Christmas dinner at a table here anyway. We do that on the 24th.

Newbie8918 · 20/11/2024 19:20

Here to say that people who are complaining that PJs are too cold, are shopping in the wrong places for the wrong PJs 🤣

That being said, we always get dressed nicely for Christmas Day. We'd either hosting or being hosted so not appropriate for PJs (no matter how warm).

Boxing Day is a different story 🤣

However what does give me the ick is people judging other people's Christmas!

Donewiththisshit · 20/11/2024 19:21

sprigatito · 20/11/2024 19:05

I suspect there is a correlation between people who are horrified at the idea of daytime PJ-wearing and people who use "breakfast" as a verb Xmas Grin

😂😂😂😂😂

MaryGreenhill · 20/11/2024 19:21

We don't wear our PJ's on Christmas day , we wear comfortable warm clothes.
BORING 🤣

But why not just wear clothes?

Wassamatta · 20/11/2024 19:22

No - I just get cold and feel scruffy. If I found the world's comfiest PJs I might feel differently.

CornishIrish · 20/11/2024 19:22

Pyjamas on Boxing Day and no we don’t get changed. Bath before bed and then slob about all day reading and eating leftovers and I refuse to be shamed - haha. I have four children and one with additional needs and I work full time. It is the one day a year where I do literally nothing.

Parker231 · 20/11/2024 19:25

We have a family tradition - it involves both sides of the family and three generations. We’re all together for Christmas. Up and have a shower and then dress up in our Christmas pj’s ready for the competition with scoring. No cooking to worry about as we’re having a cold buffet. Some may get into ski gear later as we’re staying at DSil in Colorado this year.

These were last years.

nokidshere · 20/11/2024 19:25

I always get dressed, even if it's into slob clothes, but usually after the children opened their pressies when small.

Now they are adults and jetting off to the other side of the world for Christmas it will just be me & dh again - I'm thinking of treating myself to some posh loungewear lol

minipie · 20/11/2024 19:03

I don’t even own pyjamas. Also they aren’t very warm, definitely not warm enough to hang out in on a winter day. They’re designed to be worn under a duvet surely.

Comfy clothes absolutely, I need something cosy and stretchy on Christmas Day, if it’s a bit smart that’s a bonus. But definitely not PJs!

This.

SoupDragon · 20/11/2024 19:27

For the last two year's we've had family Christmas onesies which we've worn all day. I imagine we will get them out again this year.

Beautifulweeds · 20/11/2024 19:28

Have never spent a day in my pjs so Christmas day defo not! I don't sleep in pjs so would mean putting them on after a shower, which would feel strange as it's daytime so going out usually.

Fair enough anyone who wants to but having slept I them all night doesn't appeal to me. Change of underwear fine 🙂

Why?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/11/2024 19:28

No from me .
Christmas morning cup of coffee in pyjamas ( or in my case , my zipped up Leeshure Robe
Then shower , clean nice clothes (cord leggings and nice jumper) for cooking breakfast

I would feel a bit bleurgh if someone cooked Christmas Dinner in their night-before-pyjamas ( Or even Nightmare Before Christmas Pyjamas)

Spacecowboys · 20/11/2024 19:28

Comfy clothes, yes. Pj’s no way.

vanillafudgecake · 20/11/2024 19:29

Not all day, we have a casual breakfast and do the present opening in them....bathed/showered and fresh PJs for bed on Christmas Eve.

Another shower and get dressed for the day, usually something sparkly and glam for Christmas dinner around the table.

Zanatdy · 20/11/2024 19:29

I never spend all of any day in Pj’s. I couldn’t imagine hosting visitors and cooking in my Pj’s. Getting dressed every day for me is non negotiable, unless i’m sick. My daughter often wears PJ’s all weekend (fresh ones after shower). I remember during Covid Terry Waite giving some advice and getting dressed every day was something he said and I resonate with that. I do have a dog though, so I leave the house 3 times a day minimum every day
