gives you the ick?

It seems very popular on Mumsnet. Do you stay in the ones you slept in or shower and put on fresh ones?

Shower and fresh ones after a nice walk by the sea!

Precipice · 20/11/2024 19:01

I never hang around all day in pyjamas. I rarely even breakfast in them.

This is an idea I've only heard of on MN.

CandyStripedCookieJar · 20/11/2024 19:02

I love staying in comfortable clothes all day at other times of year. Usually get my top half dressed but wear joggers or pyjama bottoms when I am at home all the time but not on Christmas day. I love to get dressed up for Christmas

PaminaMozart · 20/11/2024 19:03

No way.
11am - 12pm max.

By all means get back into your pyjamas a couple of hours after Christmas dinner has finished, or late afternoon, but there's no way I'd accept people coming to the table in sleep attire.

minipie · 20/11/2024 19:03

I don’t even own pyjamas. Also they aren’t very warm, definitely not warm enough to hang out in on a winter day. They’re designed to be worn under a duvet surely.

Comfy clothes absolutely, I need something cosy and stretchy on Christmas Day, if it’s a bit smart that’s a bonus. But definitely not PJs!

Berlinlover · 20/11/2024 19:04

Pjs all day definitely give me the ick.

StormingNorman · 20/11/2024 19:05

Ick. I’m in the get dressed camp. Even if that’s just joggers and a hoody.

I suspect there is a correlation between people who are horrified at the idea of daytime PJ-wearing and people who use "breakfast" as a verb Xmas Grin

Needmorelego · 20/11/2024 19:06

Yes it most definitely appeals.

Gliblet · 20/11/2024 19:06

We have done this before - showered and then into clean PJs for the day - and a very relaxed, non-demanding day of eating what people wanted when they wanted, no pressure to join in with anything, and no enforced jollity. It was lovely in it's own way - probably because it's quite different to our normal Christmases - but not something everyone in our family wants every year.

Wendysfriend · 20/11/2024 19:08

Pjs are for hospital only , hate them😜

PaminaMozart · 20/11/2024 19:08

I can imagine this would be lovely if it's just a couple and very young children. Everyone else........ not really.

Createausername1970 · 20/11/2024 19:08

I'm in the PJ camp. Usually new ones first worn to bed on Xmas Eve.

I would stay in them all day, but if we have family coming round them I will change into leggings or something similar before they are due.

Wishicouldnotcare · 20/11/2024 19:08

I can't understand it tbh.
I've always put on " good " clothes for Christmas day. I.e. not dressed up but not my usual lounging about the house clothes. We don't make a big thing of Christmas but we like to acknowledge Christmas day is a special day set apart from the other 364.
The only time I spend a day in my pyjamas is if I'm ill and I don't even like doing that.
Not bothering to get dressed unless you are incapable for some valid reason is just slobby imo.

Dweetfidilove · 20/11/2024 19:09

No thank you.

gamerchick · 20/11/2024 19:09

Shower and new PJ's with a comfy crop top rather than a bra. We're not going anywhere or seeing anyone so meh.

I can't get to grips for judging people's Christmas days. It a complete day of rest and family time here.

StripeyDeckchair · 20/11/2024 19:09

Urgh!
I've never got the appeal of wearing your pj's all day.
Get up, shower, get dressed.

Mind you I feel the cold & pj's are way too thin

Needmorelego · 20/11/2024 19:09

I'd probably put a clean pair on though.
I mean really it's just comfy trousers and and a top.

RhubarbCrumbs · 20/11/2024 19:10

I dress up for Christmas! Something sparkly and exciting that I can’t really wear any other time of year.

Movinghouseatlast · 20/11/2024 19:11

I don't understand wearing pyjamas all day at home. If I was ill then yes, otherwise no. People seem to be a bit obsessed on Mumsnet with wearing pyjamas.

I wear wide leg trousers and a jumper in the winter, very comfortable and warm. I can't see that wearing nightwear would be more comfortable than that.

I don't even wear pyjamas in bed!

Same

FierceQuiet · 20/11/2024 19:13

I don't really get the Mn obsession with pyjamas, especially the people who get into them immediately after they get home from work. It makes me wonder what on earth they wear to work that is so uncomfortable it can't be borne at home. And I can't imagine closing down the evening that early. Presumably no one is going to climb back out of their pyjamas and go for a drink with friends, make an impulse decision to see a film, or go for a run. It just seems depressingly early to close down the day.

TheSilkWorm · 20/11/2024 19:14

Absolutely not. I like wearing a bra for one thing. Even on a lazy morning where I get dressed after breakfast I still put a bra on under my pyjamas to get up. Going braless feels sloppy and horrible. I like being comfy but that means a nice lounge set rather than pyjamas.
