I have always made my toasties American style. Don't butter the bread, throw the butter in the frying pan and add assembled sandwich. Gorgeous.

But I've reached new heights! I've just discovered that the perfect way to make gorgeous bubbly melty cheese inside is to grate the cheese and mix with a spoonful of mayo 🤤

I'm amazed. How did I not know this before!

Personally I am upset that this thread wasn't specifically vital to me personally, something I didn't know from the outrageous title, and I had to check every single page just in case there was lifesaving knowledge I could have missed. No, not if it’s got another piece of toast on top. Alternatively there are those sandwich toaster contraptions that can involve butter or not. I have never heard of them being done in a frying pan.

Yes, quite, and I don't make cheese on toast in the microwave, I do it in the grill. I just melt the cheese for the toastie in the microwave.

How is that wrong? A toastie is toasted bread with melted cheese inside it! You melt the cheese in the microwave and toast the bread in the toaster.

Yes a fried cheese toastie done in a pan with a ton of butter is more delicious, duh, but involves way more fat. Nor am I making a croque monsieur which is also different.

Read it again, "Yes, quite" is usually something you say when you agree with a poster. I agreed that cheese on toast was done in a grill and then went on to say that toasties, fried toasties and croque monsieurs were quite different things from one another. I was answering several points made in the thread. It's not all about you mate.
