I know I'm not BU. Everyone must know! Posting here to reach the maximum number of people whose lives could be changed by this information.

I have always made my toasties American style. Don't butter the bread, throw the butter in the frying pan and add assembled sandwich. Gorgeous.

But I've reached new heights! I've just discovered that the perfect way to make gorgeous bubbly melty cheese inside is to grate the cheese and mix with a spoonful of mayo 🤤

I'm amazed. How did I not know this before!

I can assure you this is far from lighthearted. This is serious fucking business.

😂😂

YABU to not put a fuller title to your post or add light-hearted. Click on posts thinking they may be important is a bit irritating.

Christ on a bike...

LorettyTen · 22/10/2024 16:36

I hate mayonnaise. Would mustard work?

Seriously annoying especially if one has limited battery.
Thought this was a crucial info post about health.
YABU.

Just... all health? Every single aspect of health ever or a specific bit of health that was crucial to you?

user1473878824 · 22/10/2024 16:53

Personally I am upset that this thread wasn't specifically vital to me personally, something I didn't know from the outrageous title, and I had to check every single page just in case there was lifesaving knowledge I could have missed. Please next time make sure to put "No Specific Medical Information For user1473878824" or I will have to report it. What a complete waste of my time. I could have spent these minutes making a toastie or getting sepsis.

But how much battery have you got on your phone? If you've only got 5% left then I am right behind you. But if you're wafting about on anything above 75% you can jolly well rifle through all the threads like the rest of us! 😜

To find out how much battery I have left please see my thread "Urgent help needed! Don't know what to do!"

I just toast the bread in the toaster and melt the cheese in the microwave.

Sweet holy mother.

ncgfryhfdg · 22/10/2024 13:55

YABU to destroy a perfectly good cheese toastie with the devils spawn.
Mayo is disgusting - the font of all evil.
its bad enough I can’t buy a prepacked sarnie
(apart from good old hoisin duck but they always run out by noon!) without you wanting to introduce it into home cooked fare…
Hang your head in shame you Jezebel!

Mayonnaise is fucking great. I could eat it by the spoonful. If the devil did spunk mayo I'd be inviting the devil round for dinner. The kids would have to eat in another room with the door closed.

Twototwo15 · 22/10/2024 17:11

BeMintBee · 22/10/2024 16:05

Would that not just be cheese on toast?

No, not if it’s got another piece of toast on top. Alternatively there are those sandwich toaster contraptions that can involve butter or not. I have never heard of them being done in a frying pan.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 22/10/2024 17:11

Seriously annoying especially if one has limited battery.* * Thought this was a crucial info post about health.

I must be very odd. I use NHS website for health information and MN for light hearted chat.

Anyway, to add to the important discussion of the day, I've got some chipotle mayo in my pantry - that might be a nice addition?

Overthehype · 22/10/2024 17:13

mmmmbloodygorgeous · 22/10/2024 13:56

You couldn't be more wrong. The Americans call it a grilled cheese. It's crispy as fuck, rather than greasy as fuck.

The Americans know what they're doing.

Wait, this is how word is out that Americans make grilled cheese?

I assure you that I and everyone I know spread butter or mayo on the bread and pop it butter-side-down in the pan.

Crayfishforyou · 22/10/2024 17:15

I have discovered sandwiches fried in butter instead of toasting them is absolutely elite.
I am going to have a ham, tomato and cheese fried sandwich tomorrow now, with mayo in the cheese

Oh my god I hadn't even considered different types of mayo!

👏🏻 I'm stocking up tomorrow!

The best way is to spread mayonnaise on the outside of the bread. It can be fried in butter, but a few minutes in the air fryer is even better. The outside is brown and crispy and the inside melts perfectly.

I have just tried this suggestion because I'm very lazy and couldn't be arsed getting the frying pan out lol

Never even considered using mayonnaise with my cheese toastie but omg it's the best one I have ever had lol I agree that this post is vital information and this is the very best of Mumsnet (apart from the first reply lol that's true Mumsnet)

Twototwo15 · 22/10/2024 15:56

Since when do toasties involve butter or a frying pan? Thought the bread was just toasted in a toaster or under a grill and then cheese melted under the grill.

That's cheese on toast, completely different thing.

rainfallpurevividcat · 23/10/2024 10:52

YellowphantGrey · 23/10/2024 08:04

Yes, quite, and I don't make cheese on toast in the microwave, I do it in the grill. I just melt the cheese for the toastie in the microwave.

How is that wrong? A toastie is toasted bread with melted cheese inside it! You melt the cheese in the microwave and toast the bread in the toaster.

Yes a fried cheese toastie done in a pan with a ton of butter is more delicious, duh, but involves way more fat. Nor am I making a croque monsieur which is also different.

I'm talking about maybe a several times a week regular lunch item not something you have once in a blue moon as a treat.

Where did I say it was wrong?!

I think you need to chill out a bit, I'm not sure why you've singled me out to rant about the health benefits

Blimey!

I think you need to chill out as I was actually agreeing with you.

Guys! Guys! Simmer down. Stop bringing this nonsense to my lovely thread. As long as people are consuming toasties it's all good.

But OK, you were right...

Read it again, "Yes, quite" is usually something you say when you agree with a poster. I agreed that cheese on toast was done in a grill and then went on to say that toasties, fried toasties and croque monsieurs were quite different things from one another. I was answering several points made in the thread. It's not all about you mate.

user1473878824 · 23/10/2024 11:07

Guys, guys, can we not argue about cheese and stick to being FURIOUS about @mmmmbloodygorgeous's thread title? As it should be?
