I have always made my toasties American style. Don't butter the bread, throw the butter in the frying pan and add assembled sandwich. Gorgeous.

But I've reached new heights! I've just discovered that the perfect way to make gorgeous bubbly melty cheese inside is to grate the cheese and mix with a spoonful of mayo 🤤

TBF it was fairly obvious from the thread title that it was going to be something lighthearted. Never heard of bathos? 🙄

Melted cheese? In a microwave? Do you melt it on bread? Or in a bowl? Does it get warm enough and properly melt or just turn slightly droopy?

You couldn't be more wrong. The Americans call it a grilled cheese. It's crispy as fuck, rather than greasy as fuck.

Mayonnaise on the outside instead of butter, plus a little bit of butter in the pan and your toasties will reach new heights.

Dh hates Mayonnaise, won't go near it, gates even picking up the jar. The last few toasties he has said how crispy the outside it and he really likes how I cooked them. Mayonnaise. Never sure whether to tell him or not.

Nah, not a cheese and mayo fan. I only like mayo in very small quantities, on the side of the plate. I don't even mix my tuna with mayo.
So I think just butter the bread on the outside. Grating the cheese isn't a bad idea but more seems to fall out that way.

I think Americans refer to what we consider the grill as a broiler. Grilling in america not the same as grilling in the UK.

I do that too , just time the toasted bread to come out as the microwave pings and spread the melted cheese over the toast …
