toddler eaten contents of herb rack - I think this is harmless?

No spices have been eaten, which would be a bit different. They have eaten rosemary, thyme and sage - I don't think there is anything to worry about there, is there? Not my toddler! Not my house!

Can’t see why it was be a problem. It’s not toxic.

DoreenonTill8 · 28/07/2024 17:17

How did they get unsupervised access and the time to do it?

That is what I am asking, lots of herbs and spices (well, spices in particular) ARE toxic in high quantities, that is why I want to double check these are OK, and see if anyone knows anything specific.

What does the mother of the actual toddler think? Not worried enough to be posting on here it seems

cardibach · 28/07/2024 17:18

I’m not sure it’s possible to eat that much dried herb, even if you are a toddler. I’d be looking for a stash…

I dont know the details as I wasn't there, but it is a moving day, so I guess the rack was in reach of the playpen, or something, at some stage

She has no internet. She posted on whatsapp and asked us all in the group to check if we could, any way we could. She thinks it is ok, but is not completely sure.

You need internet to post on WhatsApp…

Exactly this.

Malahide · 28/07/2024 17:22

Nobody, not even a toddler could eat dry herbs in large quantities. They will have been dumped somewhere OP!

no you dont! anyway, as far as she can tell on her phone, it is ok, but its hard to look these things up on your phone. I have googled on my lap top and cant see anything concerning

You need internet to post on WhatsApp. Have worked with toddlers nearly my whole life and cannot imagine any of them eating that amount of herbs tmh. They'll have tipped it somewhere, if they even exist. Bizarre. And I thought my life was strange 😆🤦🏼

alloweraoway · 28/07/2024 17:23

I dont know why all these posts! I certainly use whatsapp all the time without internet. In fact I turn off the internet on my phone to use it at work, as it doesn't work very well on the work internet.

Ooh. Give them plenty to drink? Not too much but plenty to flush along those dried plant bits!

You absolutely do (need internet for WhatsApp)
But anyway ...

If she's posting on WhatsApp and looking things up on her phone she has internet 🙄

I dont really care, what any of you think, would just like an answer to the question. Are any of these herbs dangerous? Rosemary thyme, sage.

Thank you

You don't care what any of us think though, so why ask.

Call either the poisons unit or 111 if you want expert answers - I certainly would if a small child of mine had ingested something I thought might harm them. Not Mumsnet.

DumbassHamsterSitterPerson · 28/07/2024 17:25

Fresh? As in plants? Or dried in pots? If the latter then I can't imagine the toddler ate much.

And you definitely need Internet to use WhatsApp.

MonsteraMama · 28/07/2024 17:26

Congratulations on your enormous data usage.

The toddler will be fine.

No you dont, I turn off the internet on my phone to use whattsapp.

Anyway, the situation is that a mother on moving day with no electricity and no internet has used whats app and data to try and find out if any of these herbs are worrying, as her toddler has eaten them.

If you have an answer, to the actual question, I would be grateful. As far as I can see, googling ,the answer is no, nothing to worry about. But if anyone has any actual personal knowledge, I would be grateful

I'm guessing the OP means her friend doesn't have wi-fi.

Isittimeformynapyet · 28/07/2024 17:27

I'm sure it would be impossible to swallow a teaspoon of dried herbs without washing it down with a glass of water, let alone several jar's worth.

I'm going to say there's nothing to worry about because it didn't happen.
