toddler eaten contents of herb rack - I think this is harmless?

No spices have been eaten, which would be a bit different. They have eaten rosemary, thyme and sage - I don't think there is anything to worry about there, is there? Not my toddler! Not my house!

He's eaten the whole contents of full jars of all the herbs you listed? Or just licked a bit?

Either way I think A&E is overkill, phone 111 if you must but unless they were storing other "herbs" I think toddler will be fine.

Some people on here are dicks.

I'm not sure about the herbs thing, OP, sorry. But I am sorry that you've been given a hard time and hope the wee one is ok.

You mean you turn off WiFi. Your phone then uses the Internet via mobile data.

These dried herbs won't have hurt the toddler. They're food, sold as food with no warnings on the packaging, and even a whole jar is only a few grams. The mother is being rather silly though, asking people if they're toxic when she doesn't even know which herbs he's eaten.

There's no warnings on nutmeg either and that can be very dangerous!

WhatsApp works via the mobile phone network not the internet so it’s likely that she can WhatsApp without internet access.

You know that your mobile provider gives you data as part of your package. This data connects you to the Internet. Without data you wouldn't be able to connect to the Internet if you weren't connected via WiFi.
The mobile network for making calls and receiving texts is not the Internet.

Oh come on- why on earth if she were worried would she ask here first rather than phoning 111? Or going in person to any branch of Boots or other pharmacy and asking?

Acapulco12 · 28/07/2024 18:23

alloweraoway · 28/07/2024 17:20

She has no internet. She posted on whatsapp and asked us all in the group to check if we could, any way we could. She thinks it is ok, but is not completely sure.

Can she call 111? I’d suggest that. I hope the toddler will be okay. I assume he/she would be okay, as I don’t think herbs in those quantities are dangerous (in the little spice rack jars), but I don’t know. I think calling 111 and watchful waiting, to see how the toddler is over the next few days, is a good plan.

Mandoidi · 28/07/2024 18:26

I can't quite work out what the criteria is for being able to post on here with a concern about a toddler.

Apparently there is one.

And if she does - let's show her, eh.

Your question should be - why on earth do posters not direct her to the right place, without being a bunch of sanctimonious know alls.

There could be a 100 reasons she can't leave the house right then.

If anyone was that concerned MN wouldn't be the first port of call.

What's the criteria for the level of " that " ?

Oh and a 100 reasons why she couldn't ring 111?

Or the OP couldn't google "advice on poisoning"?

HollyKnight · 28/07/2024 18:33

Maybe the OP doesn't have internet either, she just has the Mumsnet app. They should try posting on Facebook. Someone there is bound to have internet access.

Fgs the OP thinks a toddler has been potentially poisoned so she and the toddler's mother faff around wasting time on WhatsApp and on here rather than phoning the emergency services?

Neirher OP nor the mother are capable of googling "poison advice"?

Indeed , why couldn't she? 🤷‍♀️

Yet the pages of MN continue to be filled with questions. You'd think google didn't exist.

Heaven help you ask the wrong question.

The MN app needs "internet" to work. This is provided by mobile data or wi-fi.

I'm guessing the OP means her friend doesn't have wi-fi.

It’s possible to use a google workaround to use WhatsApp without an internet connection. There are several YouTube videos showing you how to do it.

This 👆 is irrelevant.

OP posts asking a question.
No-one was really able to answer that.
Some people kindly suggested 111

This is all that needed to happen.

I hope all is well, OP.

Well it's such a stupid question to ask. If this is genuine why on earth waste time posting nonsense on here?

Happygogoat · 28/07/2024 18:38

Truly baffling thread…..

Please don’t clog up A&E with this madness - try the other options and watch for symptoms. And both of you learn how to use a phone/Google.

Really you think so?

My toddler has eaten something. Is it going to hurt them?

Nah, posters on here just like to make themselves feel really clever.
