toddler eaten contents of herb rack - I think this is harmless?

No spices have been eaten, which would be a bit different. They have eaten rosemary, thyme and sage - I don't think there is anything to worry about there, is there? Not my toddler! Not my house!

You could have googled this in half the thyme

Mint joke! But the OP is after some sage advice this time

Stop stirring, before things get spicy.

Isobel201 · 28/07/2024 17:48

Jeez A&E are going to laugh them out of the door. They're dried herbs that won't do any harm whatsover.

sunglassesonthetable · 28/07/2024 17:48

What are the chances of there being a, I don't even know, a witch or something on MN at this exact moment who knows 100% whether it's an issue? Slim I imagine.

i don't think you need a witch.

Some kinder posters, less high on snark, have pointed out there is POSiON HOTLINE. News to me too.

But you crack on feeling good about taking the piss.

I’m not sure it’s possible to eat that much dried herb, even if you are a toddler. I’d be looking for a stash…

If it was oregano it might have been looking for the pot!!!! Howling!

I’ve used it (also a toddler incident) and they were so fantastic. More people should know about them.

There is also an amazing Facebook group of experts who identify plants and mushrooms and let you know if they’re potentially poisonous to your child or dog. So handy.

Nah. They'll just answer their worries. You know , cos they're worried.

WhatsApp works via the mobile phone network not the internet so it’s likely that she can WhatsApp without internet access.

It uses either WiFi or mobile data. Both of which are Internet.

If she's posting on WhatsApp and looking things up on her phone she has internet 🙄

I think she means she has no wifi. so she's using cellular data.

Lots of people think that wifi is synonymous with the internet.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 28/07/2024 17:53

‘Hé who has sage in his garden will need no physician’

And most dried herbs have lost any potency by the time they have been in a jar for ages ( which is most spice racks) anyway.

Isittimeformynapyet · 28/07/2024 17:53

sunglassesonthetable · 28/07/2024 17:40

You need data to use WhatsApp which is the Internet 🙄 doesn't matter if it's WiFi, 3/4/5g......

You know OP doesn't give a f*. You're totally missing the point and she's currently worried about a small child.

I think you're missing the point.

If you put a teaspoon of dried herbs into your mouth they would immediately soak up all your saliva, forming a clump of dried matter. You wouldn't be able to swallow it unless you made a converted effort to wash it down with large gulps of liquid.

Many posters have pointed this out, so both the OP and yourself can be reassured that it would be impossible for a toddler to ingest anything like a concerning amount of dried herbs. That is why people are sceptical about the whole story.

Rather than being "nightmares" people are using common sense and not buying into the OP's "drama".

Some sage advice given on this thread.......

Lol, I see what you did there
chilli flakes would be unpleasant both going in and coming out, turmeric the child will be yellow . Beyond that I recommend plenty fluids

Isittimeformynapyet · 28/07/2024 17:54

*concerted

Willmafrockfit · 28/07/2024 17:56

i would be worried about sage personally

i cant believe a toddler would eat all that

Megifer · 28/07/2024 17:56

Ok I've took one for the team and just tried a teaspoon of Thyme, for some reason I have 3 jars of it.

There is simply no way this kid has had any concerning amount of herbs whatsoever. Its most unpleasant.

Which would be great if the UK had one of these mythical poison hotlines*

powers that be decided to close Guy’s poisons unit years ago, in favour of a database which is accessed by 111.

the uk has never had a “poisons hotline” for use by the public.

*there is a veterinary poisons hotline, but not much use if you are human.

BobnLen · 28/07/2024 17:57

Crikey, I had enough job getting mine to have a bit of cooked greens, I couldn't imagine a child eating the whole herb jar, they are a bit dry and bitty and hard to swallow

Waffle78 · 28/07/2024 17:58

Isittimeformynapyet · 28/07/2024 17:27

I'm sure it would be impossible to swallow a teaspoon of dried herbs without washing it down with a glass of water, let alone several jar's worth.

I'm going to say there's nothing to worry about because it didn't happen.

How would you know? Were you there? My son used to get into the hot chocolate when I left the room for a couple of minutes to go for a wee. Kids are animals they get into everything. Why would they make it up?

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 28/07/2024 17:58

Are they going to Scarborough Fair without the parsley 😂

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 28/07/2024 17:59

They'll be waiting in A&E for quite some thyme OP.

I have called the poison hotline for my son. They were amazing and we avoided a trip to A&E.

Don’t be so absurd.

oh so rational and laid back.

You're exactly the person we need when we find a toddler with herbs around their mouth! The ennui of people having a mini panic you know, about a small child. How very dare they not REALISE this.

And no I haven't missed the point. There is succession of snarky, know all replies. In between droning about internet access.

Yes very helpful. 👍🏻

Sugarsugarahhoneyhoney · 28/07/2024 18:00

Which poison hotline?

do you have the number? Might be useful for o/p or for future reference.
