To get a secret one off cleaner

elm26 · 09/07/2024 10:46

Husband is doing his annual 2 night camping trip with friends he's had since school.

My 1 year old is going to the farm Saturday with her Nanny & Gramps then having a sleepover.

So I've booked a one off deep clean of our home in secret, I'm going to take the dog for a 2 hour walk somewhere peaceful, come home to a clean home, open a bottle of wine in the evening, have a long hot bubble bath, order myself a Chinese and binge watch my favourite shows with chocolate that I don't have to share with anyone in my comfiest pjs and then have a sleep in on Sunday and I feel wonderful for planning this 😂

No guilt at all about not telling my DH about the cleaner, would any of you do the same?

Did anyone else read this as 'get a secret one from cleaner' or 'one off OF cleaner? I thought OP was after a one night stand affair with her regular cleaner for a second 😅. I am admittedly a couple of drinks in...

Sorry OP, it's a great idea! We used to have a cleaner and God I miss her 😢

🤣🤣🤣

@CoffeeLover90 we can definitely be friends although I'm south east!

Thanks for heads up on uniform! 😂

Brilliant idea but not sure if 2 hours would be enough. My mum is a cleaner and she said a whole day probably for a deep clean top to bottom.

Edited

I'm in a 2 bed flat and I clean a couple of times a week anyway so it wasn't very dirty! 2 hours and the whole lot was done beyond my usual standards so I'm happy ☺️☺️☺️

Like your style OP - Enjoy x

Have an amazing evening OP!

Iseeyoupekingduck · 13/07/2024 19:21

Absolutely!! Enjoy!

Postholidaybluuuuues · 13/07/2024 19:24

Wow the replies!!

I think it sounds like heaven @elm26!! I wouldn’t tell my DH - he would think it was a waste of money and talk me out of it. We have a joint account and I spend money as and when I need to. But I know I would end up cancelling!!

NorthernGirlie · 13/07/2024 19:25

Hope the Chinese is fabulous! We have a cleaner that comes once a fortnight - I've never actually met her as she comes while we're at work but I think I love her.

My parents and my in laws were horrified at first (Man and DMiL both worked very part time, kept clean houses, had dinner on the table etc) but I work full time, long hours out of the house.

My pals took the piss a bit too with "ooh, posh" comments. Most of them are on a bottle of wine a night / couple of take aways a week. It's all about priorities and I'd eat beans on toast 5 nights a week before I gave her up!

Hmm. Is 2 hours enough? Serious question.

Not for a deep clean unless there’s more than one cleaner.

Sounds wonderful. I would do the same in a heartbeat. I once ordered a secret mini skip when my ExH went away for a weekend, got rid of all the crap he'd promised to deal with and never did. 100% worth it.

I bloody love a skip! I was sooooo excited when we got one, it's just amazingly cathartic to get rid of all the crap around the house and garden. 10/10 would recommend.

You'll all be pleased to know that my flat is spotless, clean bedsheets on, I've had a bubble bath, hair mask in, I've ordered Chinese, laying on the sofa with a cold glass of Whispering Angel watching Bridgerton and a Chinese is on its way! I even took the car for a valet and managed to walk the dog before the rain started! I feel wonderful 😂

Excellent !!!😃

Like you I love me a good big skip.

I get unreasonably irate when I go to put an item in it and smartarse neighbours have sneakily offloaded their old telly.

Noseybookworm · 13/07/2024 19:40

An excellent plan! Enjoy 🍾🍫🛀

DAZZlanch · 13/07/2024 19:49

This sounds glorious. I don’t even have a husband but I still want to do it!! Enjoy every single second!

2 hours will be enough, it's a 2 bedroom flat and I clean it twice weekly anyway it's just my Saturday is usually a bigger clean where I wipe down skirting boards etc.

I don't know why I've kept it a secret to be honest! DH would probably laugh if I told him, I just feel guilty for spending on a cleaner when I could technically do it myself especially as I won't have my 1 year old hanging off me but I just think sometimes in life you need to have a harmless little secret that you can be smug about 😂

Absolutely - sounds a fantastic plan!

PaintedPottery · 13/07/2024 19:52

Bliss!

Zone2NorthLondon · 13/07/2024 20:01

posters gushing & effusing over booking a cleaner are being vapidly enthusiastic

Delivery food, wine and streaming sound super but really doesn’t merit responses of Genius! Etc. And it’s permissible to comment she does not need to book a secret cleaner just book it without the secrecy. Or alternatively do all nice stuff and don’t book a cleaner

Ahh I wanted to sit in your tidy flat 🤣

Now I recognise your username. I was posting on a thread of your pregnancy journey. Brought me to tears.
So even more pleased you enjoyed that pamper.

Thank fuck I'm vapidly enthusiastic.

Much nicer than the pain of having a three foot stick up my arse

Nutmeg1204 · 13/07/2024 20:10

Sounds like a fab idea

you get a chill evening without any drama about we don’t need a cleaner we can do it ourselves

thestudio · 13/07/2024 20:10

SouthLondonMum22 · 09/07/2024 12:33

I don’t understand why it makes OP a genius. It’s just another example that cleaning = woman’s responsibility.

If I wanted a cleaner, I’d be making sure that DH pays for half of it too.

This. Why is this 'your job'?

Pinkflowersxo · 13/07/2024 20:12

Love this ! I think keeping it a secret makes it more enjoyable 🤣🙌🏼

Hey,well, I’m not giddy or effusing about the genius of booking a secret cleaner to do the woman's work. Happy to eyeroll about how this is getting such vapid responses

Its a lighthearted thread.

But yeh feel free to tinkly laugh and head tilt at those taking it as such.

I'm surprised that you say you aren't giddy, the air must be terribly thin up there on that high horse.

I’m so jel. This is amazing. We are all mid nursery virus/teething here and no one is sleeping. I will aspire to this as soon as we are bug free 😀👌
