To get a secret one off cleaner

elm26 · 09/07/2024 10:46

Husband is doing his annual 2 night camping trip with friends he's had since school.

My 1 year old is going to the farm Saturday with her Nanny & Gramps then having a sleepover.

So I've booked a one off deep clean of our home in secret, I'm going to take the dog for a 2 hour walk somewhere peaceful, come home to a clean home, open a bottle of wine in the evening, have a long hot bubble bath, order myself a Chinese and binge watch my favourite shows with chocolate that I don't have to share with anyone in my comfiest pjs and then have a sleep in on Sunday and I feel wonderful for planning this 😂

No guilt at all about not telling my DH about the cleaner, would any of you do the same?

Sounds blissful and as a parent of a young child, totally deserved. Enjoy and indulge

Relaxd · 13/07/2024 18:01

Sounds great and whilst I wouldn’t need to keep this sort of thing a secret, I doubt I’d say anything either if they were away and really this sounds like you are just having a little treat.

IwillNOTplayfastandloosewithpublicfinances · 13/07/2024 18:02

The second DH goes away it’s Netflix and Deliveroo all the way as far as I’m concerned. No guilt whatsoever.

Harrriet · 13/07/2024 18:05

Absolutely do it. A few years ago I told dh I was going to decorate the sitting room while he was away. I hired a decorator instead.

Yousaidwhatagain · 13/07/2024 18:07

I don't think anything genius or brilliant about This. Sad really. You think this is your job and you've somehow done something clever, but actually why didn't your dh clean up with you before he left?

tolerable · 13/07/2024 18:17

oh wow- the @Yousaidwhatagain mindset drives me up the wall. Calling someone Sad cos of your lack of understnding is mean
total fail at realising the OP isni mumping about anyone expect her to do cleaning. no suggestion ANYONE else is even gonna care (or notice) the deep clean..Its "treat" weekend. she can get her kicks AND is utterly guilt free cos the alternative is skipping usual chores.
have a lovely weekend op

Zone2NorthLondon · 13/07/2024 18:26

Why the secrecy?book the cleaner you’re an adult woman, no lying necessary

Poppyfun1 · 13/07/2024 18:28

This is actually genius.

Zone2NorthLondon · 13/07/2024 18:34

Actually This isn’t genius,it’s not inspirational. Why so much praise for booking a covert cleaner?
It is no more noteworthy than any other online transaction that meets a need

Bloody fab idea! Might do this too! 🤣

I might just stick with the cleaner. I sent some stuff out during lockdown and they damaged it.

K37529 · 13/07/2024 18:35

This sounds like heaven 🙂

PreciousMahoney · 13/07/2024 18:35

I absolutely love this!

Ignore the pedantic mood hoovers that love to head tilt. Surprised you aren't getting told how many calories are in your chocolate 🤣

Enjoy every minute 😁

CaribouCarafe · 13/07/2024 18:39

Haha have fun OP - I get it, I like a bit of harmless naughtiness (and secretly getting a cleaner in would fall into that category for me!)

Ohnobackagain · 13/07/2024 18:40

@elm26 I did this and I don’t even have kids or a dog 🫣 and I didn’t tell anyone either 🤔😂 until now that is. Did pay for it myself so not sure why it is a secret!

Hedgeoffressian · 13/07/2024 18:50

Brilliant idea but not sure if 2 hours would be enough. My mum is a cleaner and she said a whole day probably for a deep clean top to bottom.

We don't iron in this house shamefully 😂 T-shirts etc get hung up to dry at this time of year, babies clothes go on the airer. I have a tumble dryer for winter so get it straight out when finished and hang it so no creases. My DH works as a sparky so wears business logo T-shirts and workmen pocket trousers so no need to iron. Although, I own 2 pairs of linen trousers which I do run over to my mum (she lives opposite) so run an iron over them for me once or twice a month 😂 When baby is of school age of course I will be ironing his uniform because it's one of my biggest bug bears, seeing kids look scruffy for school but for now I can get away with not ironing 🤣

I think we're soul sisters. You're living my dream today, but I'd add a woodwick candle.
Do you live in the North east? We could be friends you and I 🥲

About the ironing uniform. I thought exactly this, I even bought an iron and board last year, especially for school. Do not fret, my friend. Buy M&S tops, matalan bottoms and you will see they will not crease. You never have to iron again!

Hope you enjoy the well deserved pamper!

elm26 · 09/07/2024 11:02

2 hours will be enough, it's a 2 bedroom flat and I clean it twice weekly anyway it's just my Saturday is usually a bigger clean where I wipe down skirting boards etc.

I don't know why I've kept it a secret to be honest! DH would probably laugh if I told him, I just feel guilty for spending on a cleaner when I could technically do it myself especially as I won't have my 1 year old hanging off me but I just think sometimes in life you need to have a harmless little secret that you can be smug about 😂

Everyone needs a secret, especially a non-life changing one! But, the problem is, a secret is only a secret when two people know it and one of them is dead.

Should we all be concerned? 😆😉😇

I can only imagine how pitiful their lives must be if the only thing they can do when someone posts a light-hearted, fun thread about a day of escapism, is to find a way to try and ruin it and bash it.

Not sure if they are just hidden pessimists, angry, or just enjoy being a drain on other people's happiness and joy. So pathetic.

IamaRevenant · 13/07/2024 19:00

Did anyone else read this as 'get a secret one from cleaner' or 'one off OF cleaner? I thought OP was after a one night stand affair with her regular cleaner for a second 😅. I am admittedly a couple of drinks in...

Sorry OP, it's a great idea! We used to have a cleaner and God I miss her 😢

Nanaof1 · 13/07/2024 18:54

At first, I thought she had gotten a secret cleaning tip from a cleaner. Then my ind went your way. Very happy to have read the thread, though. Cleared up any confusion or envy (I could use secret cleaning tips..).

hot2trotter · 13/07/2024 19:07

Not much of a "deep clean" if it only takes too hours.

Well the thing is they are actually keeping a long and very funny thread in Tattle going as they loooove the head tilters on there.

So every cloud ....😁

elm26 · 13/07/2024 19:09

You'll all be pleased to know that my flat is spotless, clean bedsheets on, I've had a bubble bath, hair mask in, I've ordered Chinese, laying on the sofa with a cold glass of Whispering Angel watching Bridgerton and a Chinese is on its way! I even took the car for a valet and managed to walk the dog before the rain started! I feel wonderful 😂
