To be so happy at so many women in the cabinet

Anyone else absolutely thrilled to see women represented equally in the cabinet for the first time ever?

22 appointments. 11 women, 11 men. It seems completely deliberate. Previously the highest % of females in the cabinet was something like 38%. First female chancellor in history as well.

I feel elated that for the first time in my life, we have equality of the sexes in government.

Whatever you think of starmer, the labour party or of the women in question, this is absolutely huge to me, i feel ridiculously emotional about it. I think as a woman who has been dismissed, talked over, belittled, discriminated against and overlooked for promotion in favour of men in the workplace - if the government can do it, then other companies have no excuse.

I think it's great. Not seen the full list yet.

LaurieFairyCake · 06/07/2024 19:58

Fucking amazing

Equitable representation at last

Just took 100 years Hmm

I'm just watching his whole speech, genuinely like suddenly a grown up is in charge

HebburnPokemon · 06/07/2024 19:59

Someone will be along soon to point out the leader is male.

Rainbowsponge · 06/07/2024 20:00

Not really, it’s a very very very white cabinet.

But it’s not representative. Almost exclusively white and able bodied.

How do you know what disabilities they have?

MrsCobbit · 06/07/2024 20:02

It is wonderful however the truth will be if they can define a woman without any hint of irony.

This is true but it’s a start. It’s not perfect but it will change over time.

Hatfullofwillow · 06/07/2024 20:06

Isn't it the most working-class cabinet we've ever had as well?

Isn't it the most working-class cabinet we've ever had as well?

Yes, it is. And almost entirely state educated.

Warmfire · 06/07/2024 20:09

I'm also pleased about this

To be so happy at so many women in the cabinet
LaurieFairyCake · 06/07/2024 20:09

Statistically it's almost representative, just one more woman and it's statistically right in the cabinet

Why does skin colour matter more than class? David ‘men can grow a cervix’ Lammy is a terrible choice for one of the top offices of state - his skin colour is irrelevant to his intelligence/ ability, but probably guaranteed his appointment.

I’m depressed at the sight of all those women in cabinet. Every last one of them has sold out her sex by embracing the deeply misogynist gender ideology. Something which affects the most vulnerable women in society far more than others.

Not one of those women have uttered a word of condemnation re the avalanche of rape and death threats Rosie Duffield continues to receive. Not one.

Scottishgirl85 · 06/07/2024 20:12

The best person should get the job. I couldn't give a toss if they're male/female/white/black/etc etc.

Let’s see if this fact leads to decent/ better government though. That remains to be seen. So far little evidence biology was taught in their state schools

And yet a one second Google proves you wrong.

Angela Rayner condemns 'intimidation' of Labour's Rosie Duffield after she cancels hustings amid 'trolling and spite'

Deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner has told LBC that the threats of violence received by Labour General Election candidate Rosie Duffield are "appalling".

Anything would be better than the incompetence and corruption we’ve become used to. The bar is set very low.

Toseland · 06/07/2024 20:14

Yup, I think Labour have been criticised on women's rights for the past few years, they won't actually listen to any woman's issues or show respect to women, but will pretend it's all OK now cos they have women in cabinet. I'm sick of them already.

Aligirlbear · 06/07/2024 20:14

At face value great to get a 50 / 50 split for the first time and a female chancellor as well - big shout out for that.

The key however is are they the most able to do the job - and yes I include the men in this statement as well . We’ve all seen it as work - the token xxxxxx who sadly is there because of sex / ethnicity / nepotism etc. but actually not that good at their job.

NoSnowdrop · 06/07/2024 20:15

How do you know they’re women?

CatStoleMyChocolate · 06/07/2024 20:15

I think it’s a great start. It’s so nice to see a male PM who clearly doesn’t have a problem working with women.

BIossomtoes · 06/07/2024 20:16

NoSnowdrop · 06/07/2024 20:15

How do you know they’re women?

We’ve got eyes. 🙄

LaurieFairyCake · 06/07/2024 20:16

Well if you read their bios you can see they're the best people for the job

Not tokenism

NoSnowdrop · 06/07/2024 20:21

BIossomtoes · 06/07/2024 20:16

We’ve got eyes. 🙄

Who’s “we”?

Aren’t you lucky to have eyes? 🙄

What does a woman look like? For the hard of understanding this is a rhetorical question.
