To wonder when the excess of dogs will die down

There's so much shit everywhere

There are so many feral horrible dogs pissing on front doors or prams or shop displays and barking terrifyingly at kids

I am sick of them!!!!! Is this it or will people learn their post COVID lesson and only get pets they can actually handle in the future?

Yes Ive noticed much more dog poo and also during the warm weather the local park stinks of warmed up dog shit

Velicirapitor · 28/06/2024 21:49

I don’t know but I certainly hope all the ridiculous poodle crosses stop.

BusyCM · 28/06/2024 21:50

Sounds like a rough area. Nothing like that here.

missmollygreen · 28/06/2024 21:51

In my 38 years I have never seen a feral dog. Where is this place you live that is over run with feral dogs who piss on everyhting?

JamSandle · 28/06/2024 21:52

I'm quite sick of little yappy dogs and consider myself an animal lover. My neighbours have the yappiest dog that shits all over the garden their kids play in. 🤢

BingoMarieHeeler · 28/06/2024 21:53

I bloody hate it too. Obviously when I meet an individual dog I don’t wish it ill or anything but the cumulative effects of so many dogs everywhere are very noticeable. Can’t go anywhere without having to dodge a dog.

sashagabadon · 28/06/2024 21:53

We must be at peak dog! I sat on my lunch break for an hour today in a large park by my workplace in london and must have seen 40 dogs. Mostly dog walkers often two together with 8 dogs.
and most of them stopping to shit and the dog walkers conviently not noticing.

I have a yappy dog and it drives me insane. He is only a puppy but training a dog that loves the sound of his own voice is a nightmare to reign in albeit I trying my very hardest! Gggrrr…however…no poopies in my garden!

With the climate emergency you would hope people would stop buying dogs (they are a luxury the planet cannot afford - apart from assistance or working dogs) and the demand would reduce.

Where I live it is considered rather unusual not to have a dog.

They don’t cause any problems.

I suspect what you are experiencing is down to shit humans, rather than dogs. Sounds horrible though, so you have my sympathy.

Ariela · 28/06/2024 22:04

Average age of a medium sized dog at death = about 12. So circa 2032. Another 8 years to endure.

stillavid · 28/06/2024 22:04

Dogs are everywhere now, nice restaurants, shops - it is crazy!

threePeartrees · 28/06/2024 22:06

Unregulated ‘emotional support’ dogs need addressing too. Far too many people buying a dog vest online and thinking they can take their dogs anywhere. My dm runs a cafe and I’m often there I’ve had to refuse 2 customers in the last week who had the worst behaved little dogs - not guide dogs or medical assistance dogs but yappy untrained little puppies they just don’t want to leave at home so give them a title and think they can go anywhere . Working dogs are always so well behaved these are just people trying to get round the rules if somewhere isn’t universally dog friendly

I agree that some people who have dogs should not own them as they don't know how to treat them/train them. But you must live in a very rough area, because I don't see anything you describe in my area. (Rural village .. 2-3 miles from a small market town.)

StripedTomatoes · 28/06/2024 22:07

I hope it's soon! I was browsing in a small gift shop recently and a bloke brought his bloody great Alsatian in! Even if shops do allow dogs, doesn't mean you have to take yours in if it's clearly too big for the space. Entitled twat.

AnneLovesGilbert · 28/06/2024 22:09

Can’t come soon enough.

God yes. Almost every one I’ve encountered has been a hyperactive idiot.

No.
Time and time again on MN, responsible dog owners are tarred with the same brush as the irresponsible ones... and even when we plead our case about our well trained dogs, picking up poo, making sure our dogs don't approach strangers etc... we then get beat over the head with "well, dogs are bad for the planet" bollocks.
It is ridiculous.

I did laugh at this, so true

I'm a bit shaken to realise 2032 is only 8 years away!!!!!!

I love dogs though sorry. It’s absolutely not like this where I live OP.
sounds shit, literally.

Screamingabdabz · 28/06/2024 22:14

Amen. The amount of places overrun now is ridiculous.

Perfectlystill · 28/06/2024 22:15

I love dogs and think they are good for humanity. I feel suspicious of people who don't love them.

I also loathe dog owners who don't clear up after them, train them etc. but they are in the minority.
