There's so much shit everywhere

There are so many feral horrible dogs pissing on front doors or prams or shop displays and barking terrifyingly at kids

I am sick of them!!!!! Is this it or will people learn their post COVID lesson and only get pets they can actually handle in the future?

8 dogs I had to negotiate on a half hour walk to town Saturday
It's ridiculous. At least keep them on your own property.

I think perhaps this poster highlights an important difference. I wouldn't even blink at seeing a dog in the way into town, I certainly wouldn't call walking past one a 'negotiation '. It's easy to dismiss comments like this but it's helpful to understand how other people feel. That said, surely you're not suggesting people don't walk their dogs at all? I mean this in the spirit of conversation and not confrontation.

God yes. Almost every one I’ve encountered has been a hyperactive idiot.

That’s because most of them are cockerpoos and working cocker spaniels are very hyperactive. It’s nothing to do with them being crossed with poodles.

I was on a train this afternoon going into central London and was appalled when a woman got on with what looked like a white collie dog and actually helped lift it onto the seat in front of me.

I do casual work in events and was wearing a black suit so I was very conscious of it. She kept smiling pathetically at me but I kept my sunglasses on and pretended I hadn't seen her. But in this heat, I could smell the dog! When they got off at London Bridge, I could see it had left hair all over the seat. Nice. Pity the person who sat there afterwards.

The sooner dogs that aren't guide dogs are banned from trains and public spaces the better.

I'd also like to see all dogs muzzled when in public spaces, especially after reading this story.

Kelly Allen has been left with a facial scar after the small dog bit her at a friend's house.

Bring back the dog license and make it expensive.£2000 and even more for multiple dogs.

GettingAwayFromYou · 28/06/2024 23:22

Can't wait for dog breeding and "ownership" to die out. It's cruel, plus really fucking obnoxious.

FangsForTheMemory · 28/06/2024 23:23

I’d like to see extending leads banned. They give shit owners an excuse to let little Fido do what it wants while creating a trip hazard for anyone passing. I had to stop dead for one this lunchtime; its owners didn’t realise the dog had wandered four or five metres away and another person actually trod on the lead.

kitsuneghost · 28/06/2024 23:23

I don't want one near me so tend to cross the street or walk in the road when one approaches (not great when the road is busy).
I am absolutely saying people shouldn't walk dogs in public areas.
I am of the view if you don't have ample space you don't get one.
Hire a field if you must, like you would for a horse.

In Spain I've seen owners wash the piss off walls but here owners just leave it as though we're all supposed to accept the inevitability of dog piss everywhere. It's madness.

TBF when I lived in Spain for 5 months it rained about 4 times. This was in the winter!

Peakyshelby · 28/06/2024 23:25

Most of the people I come across with dogs are responsible and I know some lovely owners with lovely dogs
Now and again you got the odd dog who jumped up or ran after my sons ball and the owners did taken action though I do think if your dog is going to jump up at people they should be on a lead.

then these 3 incidents in the last 3 months
(dog poo is also bad round us including outside 2 schools and a nursery)

The owner who let their dog run riot on the kids playground, dog then did a poo at the bottom of a slide just before a child came down. Massive argument then involving owner and mother of child, with owner saying the child should have checked before coming down the slide!!!! Child covered in dog shit.

The dog who ran over and pooed in the middle of our picnic before we could stop it. Both my husband and I had our backs to the picnic getting stuff out. Owner was not in site and my husband had to grab it as it then started lunging at the food. Despite it being on a dog free beach the owner who arrived a minute later said it was our fault for having a picnic!!!

the dog who ripped my mums coat when jumping up. Again owner just struggled and said “make me” when my mum asked if she was going to replace it.

plus my old boss who has a poodle cross that has nearly got run over god knows how many times as she has no recall over it.

there also seems to be an increase of dogs in cafes and on public transport as well. I do feel for those with allergies. Don’t get me started on fake assistance dogs. I work with disabled people some of whom have assistance dogs and they are being questioned more and more and even refused service because of badly behaved fake assistance dogs. Yes they do report it

I wonder whether, in 200 years or so, children will be taught that back in the dark ages, people used to buy other species and imprison them in their homes for their entertainment, and the children will be aghast.

our two obviously missed the memo that they are imprisoned!! LMAO. I think WE are the prisoners. Pick up the car keys? Oh no you are not leaving without us! get our leashes now minions. Laying in bed watching tv and munching on some treats?.. paw smacking head, excuuuusee me human, mine..gimme NOW.. 3am , go to roll over and get paw punched for getting in their way on THEIR bed , Just this morning, put food in the bowl, sitting at the table reading the news in our home country. Whack. one of them smacks the back of my chair and throws her head in the direction of her bowl. Her highness and prince crazy boy don't want plain food. They want eggs or something yummy with said food. This slave makes scramble eggs and puts on food. gone in 5 min. Dogs can be a loving part of the family if they are raised with love and respect. PS. Mine are poodles. Not crosses though but standard poodles and can be insane also lol

If people can dislike dogs, why come onto a thread about disliking dogs and call the op names because she dislikes dogs?

I didn't call the OP any names,

GabriellaMontez · 28/06/2024 23:27

It. Can't come soon enough for me.

byteme1011 · 28/06/2024 23:28

I agree it's the owner and not the dogs themselves.
There's definitely more dog poo about where I stay. I'm in a flat and someone in our block clearly never picks up their dog poo (imagine what happens grass cutting day). I've got a dog myself but I wouldn't have one of I wasn't willing to pick up her poo or train her (folk always comment when they are round for tea how come she's not interested in our food or beg etc its training, dont feed your dog off your plate 🤷).
Ive noticed increasing number of owners too busy on their phone and not paying attention to their dog, I've had to go find owners of dogs just left to it. I might be biased but I'm always cautious of cockapoos or any poodle crosses feel like it's the new 'in' breed so not always the best owners

Here we go again. I got dogs and don't let them pee or poo on people's property.

No. Lots of lonely people have their dog for company, and could not afford the £2k for simply having one.

But we are still awful as our dogs are wrecking the planet.

I've had to take a few long train journeys over the past couple of weeks and there were loads of dogs on them. Since when did dogs on trains start being a thing?
Only one was sitting on the floor. The others were perched on the seats like they had their own ticket. Not sure how I feel about that.

Edited

I hate it. I can’t see why they can’t have just a few dog friendly carriages then have the rest as dog free which is what they do in many European countries.

I was going to stay with family for a few days and took a 3 hour train to London. I fell asleep for half the journey and when I woke up saw a dog running up and down the aisle unleashed. What if it had pissed on someones shoes or the luggage compartment or bitten someone? It was a super crowded train so no chance of me being able to move to another carriage.

Then on my way back there was another dog! It was initially sat in a seat which is gross but then it was wandering around on a long leash and it came into my seat area. I told the owner to remove her dog immediately. She did and then it came back so I just grabbed my stuff to change carriages.

When I was lifting my luggage to leave she just let her dog sit there in the aisle. Had I stepped over it and mistakenly kicked or fallen on it I’m sure it would’ve been my fault if it had bitten me! I told her to move her dog out the way again because no way was I stepping over it.

Aside from being plain rude It feels very ableist. I mean it’s only a matter of time before someone visually impaired is injured by a dog blocking the aisle somewhere. And I have dyspraxia so my balance and spatial awareness isn’t as good sometimes. Thankfully after she got her out my way I found another seat in the next carriage which had no dogs.

I think we should apply this to humans and their breeding.

I hate dogs. They are just a pest. I wouldn't be upset if they banned keeping them as pets, and only allowed them as guide dogs or guard dogs.

Guide dogs and police dogs are pets too. They need a close relationship with a human to do their job.

JammyJellyfish · 28/06/2024 23:44

Dogs are an environmental disaster, one medium size dog has a comparable carbon footprint as a small suv. greta thunberg has two!!

there lack of control of breeders is the issue- rescue centres are packed with unwanted dogs Yes getting a rescue dog is hard but maybe rescue centres have a point when they say the home\lifestyle\experience of a prospective owner is unsuitable. So this person then gets a puppy, or rescue from abroad, ruins it & ditches it at a rescue canter.

CombatLingerie · 28/06/2024 23:44

Have you tried swilling your front with diluted Jeyes Fluid OP? It might be better than Cayenne Pepper. It gets rid of any bad smells and might put some dogs off weeing there. It does have a strong smell that some people don’t like. My little dog is neutered so he only does sitting wees in his own garden. It’s maybe intact dogs that are constantly cocking their legs that are the problem. I am not sure what can be done about those though. I must be lucky where I live as the majority of dog owners are responsible and clear up the poo. I only smell human wee in the bus shelters and shop doorways. It never smells of dog wee where I live. Just to add that there are lots of dogs in my area.

suicune · 28/06/2024 23:46

I just wish people would stop bringing their dogs everywhere with them. Parks, outdoor walks etc- fine.

Bars, restaurants, shops etc- not fine. If your dog can’t be left alone for 2 hours while you go out for a meal then you’re just a bad dog owner. I think it’s just kind of weird and setting yourself up for failure in the future when you inevitably can’t bring your dog every single place (eg when kids come along) and then at that point the dog just isn’t used to it and will just shred your house to pieces.
