To wonder when the excess of dogs will die down

There's so much shit everywhere

There are so many feral horrible dogs pissing on front doors or prams or shop displays and barking terrifyingly at kids

I am sick of them!!!!! Is this it or will people learn their post COVID lesson and only get pets they can actually handle in the future?

I live in a (not exactly known for its roughness but so what should rough cities have to put up and shut up?) city centre so I'd say a couple a day. I have tried spraying it with cayenne pepper water but it washes away in the rain.

But the piss doesn’t wash away?

i think you might be exaggerating.

My dog pisses in the street.. it is what dogs do. What am I meant to do, put a cork up her?

Not have a dog unless there's space to walk it without it pissing on other people's homes. Why don't dog owners understand how utterly disgusting it is?

Yes it does. But then it's back. Because dog owners don't mind their dogs pissing on someone else's stuff.

My dog has never pissed on someone's home. How does a dog piss on a house?

Lou670 · 28/06/2024 22:36

There are no bad dogs, just bad dog owners. I am a dog lover and lost my remaining dog last month. I will get another. However I am not one to take my dog/s in restaurants or shops as I can appreciate that not everyone is a dog lover. I always had my dogs under control and always picked up after them. I can see how people get annoyed with the behaviour of some of the owners that appear clueless over how to manage a dog. I loved my dogs but that doesn't mean to say that everyone else had to. I don't see any feral dogs where I live.

I didn’t say you should try and stop your dog pissing in the street. It doesn’t bother me. I have never smelled dog piss walking down the street.

i was simply saying i feel quite lucky that mine never have, they wait until they get to the field.

i get you are pissed off about the thread, but don’t start your shit with me. I didn’t make a judgement about anyone else. My post was about me and my dogs. Not you. Any judgement you felt was made in your own head

To ban dogs from all public places and have it so they can’t pee in public places, you would also have to have rules that mean cats can’t go outside. Then there would up roar.

since they tend to piss and shit in places that aren’t their garden.

weirdly, no one seems to every get bothered by that.

Lots of people get bothered by that too. I think cats should be kept indoors for their own safety, the songbird population and for the reasons you mentioned :)

Right, you’ve done it again and I’ve reported it again. This thread isn’t about you and OP is not trying to kill your dog.

Thanks for not showing empathy, and instead just reporting.
I did not say OP is trying to kill my dog... but she is posting generalise crap about dog owners.
WE ARE NOT ALL THE SAME

Lifeinlists · 28/06/2024 22:41

We were having lunch in a nice country pub and a couple brought in two dogs, sat at a table opposite us and one of the dogs promptly threw up over the floor.
Not the best accompaniment to a meal. No apology either!

I like dogs but they certainly don't need to go everywhere with their owners. They are not children.

You’re coming across like a stereotype of an entitled dog owner. Shouting and swearing because someone dares to dislike dogs. Get a grip.

Same.
Lots of posts on FB etc about cats being run over. If you loved your cat, surely you would keep it home and safe?

bananamum13 · 28/06/2024 22:42

Bugger off the lot of you crazy fools - we have had our (rescued) dog for about 18 months, he has enhanced our lives so much, he doesn't bark unless people are at the door & knocking.
He comes to work with me, I work in a care home and he's very well loved by all staff & residents.
Get a grip.

MissAtomicBomb1 · 28/06/2024 22:43

I'm with you OP.

They're bloody everywhere. Can't even go to a pub or cafe without someone's dog yapping away now. Go for a walk on the park and one invariably bounds over, jumping everywhere while the owner makes no effort to get it on the lead. I don't care if 'he's just being friendly'!

It's disingenuous to suggest that the owners are the problem, well yes they are, but it doesn't change the fact that there are too many dogs.

What would happen if one of them had a dog allergy or didn’t like dogs?

Portakalkedi · 28/06/2024 22:44

Agree, the fecking things are everywhere, and so many people obsessed with them, it's both horrible and baffling to me (but it's one of those things you can't say IRL).

HeddaGarbled · 28/06/2024 22:44

I wonder whether, in 200 years or so, children will be taught that back in the dark ages, people used to buy other species and imprison them in their homes for their entertainment, and the children will be aghast.

People can dislike dogs. I don't like tiny yappy dogs. Total "small dog" syndrome going on. And the owners think because they can pick the dog up and whisk them away, it is ok for their dog to act like the Devil incarnate.

My dog is well trained, I pick up her poo, she does not approach strangers or their dogs (if they have one). There was a time I was thinking about volunteering her as a PaT dog, as she is so gentle with people.

How does this make me a bad dog owner? Or entitled?

ntmdino · 28/06/2024 22:46

"Die down"? You act like this is a new thing. You can tell when there's an excess of dogs when every rescue is full and the high-kill council pounds are bursting...and it's been exactly like that for decades.

Regulating breeding properly and slapping massive fines on people for even having one litter unlicensed...that's the only way to stop it, and most dog lovers would say the exact same.

No there has been a measurable leap as a result of COVID lockdowns. I understood why it happened but there are too many and it is so unhygienic and in some cases dangerous.

terraced houses with no garden? A house's garden wall? Front of shops/cafes/pubs? Everywhere in public really, do you not see the piss and stains when you walk around?

This 👆I haven’t stepped in dog shit for decades. You must live in an area that is rough !!

I live in one of the most affluent towns in the country and there's dog shit all over. It's not a rough people thing, it's a selfish dog owner thing unfortunately. (Not all did owners are, of course, but so many are)
