To wonder when the excess of dogs will die down

There's so much shit everywhere

There are so many feral horrible dogs pissing on front doors or prams or shop displays and barking terrifyingly at kids

I am sick of them!!!!! Is this it or will people learn their post COVID lesson and only get pets they can actually handle in the future?

No there has been a measurable leap as a result of COVID lockdowns. I understood why it happened but there are too many and it is so unhygienic and in some cases dangerous.

No, there's been an increase in ownership. The number of dogs overall has consistently been too high for decades.

Like I said...support the campaigns for a proper crackdown on backyard breeders, and you'll find that both problems are closer to being reduced (although I personally don't regard the number of dog owners as a problem, just the number of idiots with dogs).

I live in one of the most affluent towns in the country and there's dog shit all over. It's not a rough people thing, it's a selfish dog owner thing unfortunately. (Not all did owners are, of course, but so many are)

Plus, realistically, some turds aren't capable of removal without additional tools and cleaning products, which owners never seem to carry.

No sorry Op, it’s not dying down at all. And people keep suggesting others get dogs as the solution for everything so if anything it’ll get worse.

Need to lose weight? Get a dog so you’ll need to walk it everyday.

Feel lonely? Get a dog to give you company and “kisses” 🤮

Kid doesn’t like dogs due to them jumping all over him/her at the local park? Get a puppy so s/he “gets over it”!

Can't have kids ? Get a dog !

And so on…

TheGander · 28/06/2024 22:51

I have wondered about this too. Every day I walk past dog poo, dogs relieving themselves on paths while their owners walk on obliviously, dogs pissing on the tree in front of our flat and woe betide us if we remonstrate with the owner. The neighbours sausage dog barks like a maniac whenever I go into my garden, and today I finally lost it and yelled shut up. I’ve wondered if there will be a downturn once reality hits ( vet bills , holiday arrangements , ageing pets etc) and people who got a dog on impulse during covid are not tempted to repeat the experience once this cohort of pets has died. I hope so anyway because it’s gotten out of hand

A responsible owner would carry water to dilute it. I think a lot of people in Spain do this.

Where I lived in Spain this was law that you must carry water and disinfectant to rinse off the dog pee and people have been fined for not doing so.

wastingtimeonhere · 28/06/2024 22:57

Bad dog owners give we dog owners a bad name. Unfortunately, humans aren't considerate as a species.

Piss and shit though? Pull into any layby, it stinks... predominantly human piss and shit..Men stood with dicks out, pissing, because they never learnt bladder control as toddlers and to wait for a toilet.

Itsprobablynotcominhome · 28/06/2024 22:58

Rather encounter dog shit in public places than other people's cats shit in my garden where my children play. Cats are fucking disgusting creatures.

WayOutOfLine · 28/06/2024 22:58

I don't mind all these dogs, most of them are cute (not aggressive big ones obviously).

I feel sorry for their owners though, lots of people I know got a dog in the past few years and it knocks onto holidays, dog walkers, doing everything around the dog, it seems quite a pain to me but people seem to be queueing up to have their lives constrained by dogs!

OonaStubbs · 28/06/2024 22:58

I hate dogs. They are just a pest. I wouldn't be upset if they banned keeping them as pets, and only allowed them as guide dogs or guard dogs.

SchoolRefusal · 28/06/2024 22:59

Where we live there is dog mess everywhere if it not just on the floor I'd dropped bagged dog mess. Dogs at the school gate are also an issue. Kids have to navigate round various dog leads to get into school, or kids gather round to pet them or they growl and attempt to fight each other, or they jump up and get others clothes dirty. I'm also sick of it.

Sookafatwan · 28/06/2024 22:59

Its a fookin disgrace how so many eating and drinking establishments let them in now with their owners thinking eveyone else likes them as much as they do with their stinky arseholes everywhere. Support your local non dog friendly establishments!

I think you might find that you're in a small minority.

I have two well mannered dogs. I don't leave their shit lying around. I sometimes pick up other people's dog's shit, because I'm sick of them giving the rest of us a bad name.

Viviennemary · 28/06/2024 23:01

I am totally sick of the country being overrun with dogs. Everywhere you go there's dogs. One dog is not enough now. People must own multiple dogs. They are a menace.

Bs0u416d · 28/06/2024 23:01

I do think this might be a reflection of where OP lives? I do have a dog (that I most certainly don't take everywhere) but I have not noticed anywhere being over run with dogs. I see very little dog shit on the streets and only the occasional pile left at the park (which I will pick up if I've a spare bag). Where is it that OP lives, where the roads flow yellow with piss and there is shit caked up houses?

BeverForget · 28/06/2024 23:02

It is not the canine, it is the parasite homo sapiens...as always...

Floorbard · 28/06/2024 23:02

XenoBitch · 28/06/2024 22:46

People can dislike dogs. I don't like tiny yappy dogs. Total "small dog" syndrome going on. And the owners think because they can pick the dog up and whisk them away, it is ok for their dog to act like the Devil incarnate.

My dog is well trained, I pick up her poo, she does not approach strangers or their dogs (if they have one). There was a time I was thinking about volunteering her as a PaT dog, as she is so gentle with people.

How does this make me a bad dog owner? Or entitled?

If people can dislike dogs, why come onto a thread about disliking dogs and call the op names because she dislikes dogs?

Areolaborealis · 28/06/2024 23:02

YANBU. Dogs everywhere and there seems to be a trend for putting them in jackets and boots. I nearly lost the plot when I saw one of my neighbours wearing the dog in a front carrier like in this image!

Yep I’ve lived or worked in various fairly affluent areas in London - Richmond, St John’s Wood and Notting Hill to name a few and there was a lot of dog crap there the same way there was in the less affluent areas of London I’ve lived.

I’ve left London now and the area I’ve lived in isn’t too bad for it but it’s definitely there - if you walk ten minutes in any direction you’ll encounter it.

Sad Jim Carrey GIF

That photo could only have been worse if it were an asthmatic pug.

Yes but there is no need for them.

Sounds like a rough area. Nothing like that here.

This. And we have lots of dogs in the area too but it’s not like this at all.

IrritatedB3dM4ker · 28/06/2024 23:10

I love dogs but I think they should be treated like dogs not a replacement for kids.

I'm fed up of 80% of our friends bringing their bloody dog everywhere we go.

I'm sick of noisy smelly dogs in pubs and coffee shops.

mbosnz · 28/06/2024 23:13

I had a woman complaining about the proliferation of dogs today. Of course, she was at a vets, and pet shop. . .

So glad none of my friends are like that @IrritatedB3dM4ker !

I have one friend who asked if she could bring her dog on a walk which is reasonable but no one would bring their dog out to brunch etc or to my house!

I’d have to get a new social circle if that happened 😂

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 28/06/2024 23:13

I live in an old person's area, lots of bungalows and accessible housing.

Definitely noticed over the past few years that there are a lot more small dogs, and small dog poo in the area, and not uncommon to see people on their mobility scooters, little dogs in tow, doing shits and them not stopping to pick it up.

It's dire trying to push the pushchair up the road, we live near a school so always shit parking making it hard to cross, then even worse on bin day when the bins are out blocking half the path, cars blocking any dropped kerbs or even just leaving any gaps, and dog shit on the floor.
