To wonder when the excess of dogs will die down

There's so much shit everywhere

There are so many feral horrible dogs pissing on front doors or prams or shop displays and barking terrifyingly at kids

I am sick of them!!!!! Is this it or will people learn their post COVID lesson and only get pets they can actually handle in the future?

I agree. While I love dogs, there’s currently a ridiculous number of them, bred and owned irresponsibly.

Someone on my local Facebook group was “desperate to find loving homes for our gorgeous puppies” - she wanted £550 each for boxer-collie-husky crosses, desperate to get rid of them because they were 8 weeks and she’s 36 weeks pregnant. There’s nothing responsible about that situation, and I can’t imagine there’s anything much responsible about the people who bought them.

You can't stop dogs peeing. When they need to go, they need to go. They also do small scenting pees as a message to other dogs. Totally normal dog behaviour.

Yes which is why there need to be fewer dogs!!!!

I’d rather there were fewer humans than fewer dogs. At least dogs aren’t covering this island in disgusting rabbit hutch new builds all jammed on top of one another. And dogs aren’t responsible for the horrendous traffic I have to fight through each day.

In 1960 there were three billion humans. There are now eight billion. We’re the blight, not dogs.

No, it's definitely the dogs.

It doesn’t matter how responsible the owners are, there’s still dog piss literally everywhere now. I went for a walk the other day and the sun had heated up all the piss so it stank 🤢 I think we should have dog parks where people are allowed to walk their dogs, and ban them from public areas!

To ban dogs from all public places and have it so they can’t pee in public places, you would also have to have rules that mean cats can’t go outside. Then there would up roar.

since they tend to piss and shit in places that aren’t their garden.

weirdly, no one seems to every get bothered by that.

BadgeronaMoped · 28/06/2024 22:27

I hate dogs but even I voted YABU, they make a lot of people very happy, and I'm pretty sure around here they're not pissing and shitting over everything Grin

damebarbaracartlandsbiggestfan · 28/06/2024 22:27

I live in an area that is definitely not 'rough'. It has a very high performing primary school and herds of range rovers, yet there is always dog poo everywhere.
I hear you OP.

Is the dog pee smell in the summer a real problem? Or is it just you?
I have never notice the smell of dog pee in the summer..... and that is in my own garden with my own dog.

We need fewer humans, not dogs.

Giantpaw · 28/06/2024 22:28

I love dogs and own two of my own but I don’t get the obsession with taking dogs everywhere.

Dogs don’t need to go to the shop, or to public events like fireworks displays or huge festivals where they get dragged around and stood on. It’s bizarre. Let it be a dog and just do dog things that they actually want to do.

How sad someone reported my post.
My dog is on borrowed time.
So this thread is like being grateful there will be one less dog about.
It is going to absolutely devastate me. Will you be there for me then? No. Just gloating about all the "awful" dogs and their owners.

The thread title is perfectly clear. You didn’t have to click on it. You also don’t get to attack people carte blanche because you’re suffering.

One of the MANY negative encounters I’ve had with dogs was on a beach. I was swimming in the sea, left my towel borrowed from the hotel on the sand. A dog pissed it’s feral bright dayglo piss all over my hotel towel. Which I had to carry back and leave in the bath, suspicious as all fuck. They must know me only as the feral daylgo piss fiend.

MissingMoominMamma · 28/06/2024 22:28

Rabbitoney · 28/06/2024 22:10

God yes. Almost every one I’ve encountered has been a hyperactive idiot.

Yep- I have two rescue poodle crosses, and I can confirm that they are indeed hyperactive idiots.

Bloody lovely ones though 😁.

Without humans there would be no dogs. They’re fake. We invented them.

StarDolphins · 28/06/2024 22:29

I mean, there’s plenty of ‘I hate dogs’ threads you could’ve added this to.

There are good & bad dog owners, there always has been. It’s old news.

Dogs pissing on the wall of my front garden is a revolting problem yes.

Dogs pissing on the wall of my front garden is a revolting problem yes.

But even parks that are for dogs don’t smell strongly of piss in the summer.

exactly how many dogs are pissing on your wall?

Flossflower · 28/06/2024 22:32

Olidorjo · 28/06/2024 22:22

So how do you expect people to clear up dog piss whilst out walking? Dog shit is different and in our area people carry poo bags and do the right thing.

A responsible owner would carry water to dilute it. I think a lot of people in Spain do this.

sprigatito · 28/06/2024 22:33

I live in a very leafy and pleasant area. There is dog shit in all the local beauty spots at a level I've never seen before this past few years. The parks stink of dog shit on a warm day. The nearest beach has been ruined - you can't let your kids dig with their buckets and spades because of the number of buried turds.

If dog owners are sick of people going on about antisocial dog ownership, they need to make damn sure they are not perpetuating it - everyone on MN who owns a dog religiously picks up every time and wouldn't dream of hanging shitbags from wild trees - but common sense says some of you are lying. We know people behave differently when they think nobody is looking.

I live in a (not exactly known for its roughness but so what should rough cities have to put up and shut up?) city centre so I'd say a couple a day. I have tried spraying it with cayenne pepper water but it washes away in the rain.

No one is giving you advice. You clicked on a thread you already knew had upset you and then wrote a nasty unwarranted personal attack. None of that is OP’s fault.
