To wonder when the excess of dogs will die down

There's so much shit everywhere

There are so many feral horrible dogs pissing on front doors or prams or shop displays and barking terrifyingly at kids

I am sick of them!!!!! Is this it or will people learn their post COVID lesson and only get pets they can actually handle in the future?

No, legislation refers to dog owners - have a look at the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 if you want an example

The legislation can say whatever it likes. I do not own my dog, she lives with me and I’m responsible for her. She’s not a possession.

sunglassesonthetable · 27/07/2024 23:25

This is an extremist little thread where posters can fantasise - dogs will be banned, rolling poo boxes, dog owners are intellectually inferior etc It's not very representative. @dottiehens

It’s fucking bonkers.

The carbon footprint of dogs is unreal, esp as they are carnivorous. How is it justifiable for so many people to own them?

Dogs are omnivorous.

They eat their own shit. Circular economy. Yummy.

sunglassesonthetable · 27/07/2024 23:52

Will you be eating up from the rolling poo box you dream of @brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ?

No, that is rabbits. They are known for eating their own shit.

I have grown up with dogs, and never saw one eat there own faeces.

Again, you are fixated with dog poo. Why is that?

I don't drive, I don't even use buses. I definitely don't fly. I live alone, NO KIDS (which is the biggest thing you could avoid if you want to "save" the planet).

My one dog brings me joy and a sense of peace in my life. I am still alive because of my dog.

I’m going to build a box on wheels. It will have a piss tank (filled with my piss), and a shitbox filled with my shit.

It will have two sticks out front with five sharp, hard points on the end.

I will push this box around my town. At regular intervals I will press a button and my box will spray some piss onto the ground.

Once on my walk I will pull a lever, and my box will use a hydraulic ram to squirt out some of my shit from the shitbox onto the floor.

Often, my box will emit a sudden loud sound.

And sometimes I will lift up the box and put the spiky bits on somebody random person’s leg or chest.

Do you think people will tolerate my polluting box of spiky annoyance ?

Fucking excellent.

They really are not... that is some weird rule you have in your own head that has no basis in reality at all.

And some people have said dog owners are "intellectually challenged".

Wow.

really don't get it do you.

Duh

K0OLA1D · 28/07/2024 01:46

The lengths you'll go to.

Dogs are not going anywhere. If you want to drag around a cart of your own shit and piss, carry on. There will be a one way trip to the funny farm, and me and my dog won't be on that train

OonaStubbs · 28/07/2024 01:47

People wouldn't miss dogs if there were no dogs. People would find something else, whether it be another companion animal or something else entirely.

you've already been a passenger for years - evidently 😄

It's not just about "bad owners." "Good owners" -the risk averse ones who are very switched on about dogs and their care - are actually just as much of a problem in their way, from the perspective of those of us who don't want bloody dogs absolutely everywhere.

Basically, increased numbers of dogs combined with new approaches to dog care where it's increasingly taboo to leave dogs at home for more than brief periods of time, hard to leave them in a car for more than a moment, and considered dangerous to leave them tied up outside a shop, means that shops, restaurants and cafes are inevitably going to feel that they have to let dogs in, as they will otherwise lose a lot of drop-in/spontaneous custom - the number of people who have a dog and won't drop in unless the dog is allowed now outweighs the number of people who will outright refuse to enter a place with dogs. So those of us who are not phobic or allergic but just would rather have dog-free spaces, are kind of screwed.

I do not foresee any changes in dog-ownership styles that might result in owners deciding to go back to the old days where they were more relaxed about leaving dogs in cars, homes and tied up outside facilities, so I think the only solution to this issue is for there to be fewer dogs. Thankfully they don't live that long, so hopefully a lot of the current generation of dogs won't be replaced.

NRTFT · 28/07/2024 02:04

Yes. There is an excess of dogs in the UK.

This is very clear.

I was on a train this afternoon going into central London and was appalled when a woman got on with what looked like a white collie dog and actually helped lift it onto the seat in front of me.

I do casual work in events and was wearing a black suit so I was very conscious of it. She kept smiling pathetically at me but I kept my sunglasses on and pretended I hadn't seen her. But in this heat, I could smell the dog! When they got off at London Bridge, I could see it had left hair all over the seat. Nice. Pity the person who sat there afterwards.

The sooner dogs that aren't guide dogs are banned from trains and public spaces the better.

I'd also like to see all dogs muzzled when in public spaces, especially after reading this story.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cxwvkenr9yro#:~:text=Kelly%20Allen%2C%2045%2C%20from%20Swansea,open%20wound%20on%20her%20face.

Where I live, dogs are banned from public transport unless they are in a closed carrying device of some kind (unless they are a bono fide assistance dog); this, added to national laws that make car ownership harder in cities, not only limits the issues caused by animals on public transport, but also strongly pushes people in urban areas to limit themselves to small dogs as most people living in the middle of a city will therefore only have dogs that can be contained and carried easily.

Couldn't believe it when I saw dogs hairing up the seats on public transport in the UK. So gross. I don't want dog hair and dog smell all over my clothes and bag.

Agree it's disgusting.

dottiehens · 28/07/2024 05:08

Well since I do not use public transport my cute hypoallergenic dog should be fine. Uber now has a pet friendly cab service so that would be an inconvenience to the dog haters. However, I call them even when I do not have my dog. Much better drivers and cleaner cars. 😉

WhereAreWeNow · 28/07/2024 05:57

Dogs on public transport, in cafes, and in shops bother me. Especially as PP have mentioned when the dogs are on seats.
Pre-covid this wasn't a thing. I don’t know if rules about dogs on transport changed (I thought only guide dogs were allowed on the tube in London for instance) or if it's just that people's attitudes/expectations changed.
I see dogs on seats and I think of fleas, dirty paws, hair, and the poor allergy sufferers who might be stuck in an enclosed space with a dog.
It all seems very selfish and antisocial.

A lot of what dogs eat is the meat that isn't fit for human consumption. You be amazed how much of an animal is gristle, fascia, and bone. Bulk that out with beet pulp and sub-par grains and baked it into kibble.

They definitely do. We had a dog that does this, my friend’s dogs do this and the neighbour has a shit eating dog. My other friend’s dog steals tampax out of the bin! It’s quite common with dogs. We had one visiting recently that dug up the cat shit to eat. Nice.
