Ever walked out of a film at the cinema or slept through it?

When I was younger I remember walking out of the film 24 days later, it was actually quite a good film, but I was young, had smoked a joint and got totally paranoid and freaked out by it!
I also walked out of The exorcist, just a lot of goddamn awful noise and screaming.
I fell asleep through The matrix 😂and Dh fell asleep during one of the later Bridget jones films
Anyone else?

I should have walked out of The Age of Innocence, but I thought husband was enjoying it, he thought I was enjoying it and neither of us said anything until the end. Bloody hell that film is boring.

I slept through Basic Instinct (due to tiredness), and also slept through The Exorcist loads of times. Birmingham Odeon showed it every weekend in the late 80s/early 90s, and it was quite the done goth thing to go watch it after an evening at the Barrel Organ. Even demonic possession couldn't always keep me awake after a drink.

Walked out of Crossroads (Britney Spears film) 😂.

Another poster has reminded me that I desperately wanted to walk out of Vanilla Sky but had to stay as dh was loving it!

HoneyButterPopcorn · 29/05/2024 08:46

Sit me in a dark room and I will fall asleep. I used to fall asleep in lectures too.

BlastedPimples · 29/05/2024 09:43

Sniper.

So boring.

ToadofTOADhall9 · 29/05/2024 09:58

Yes me and DH walked out of 'RockNRolla' after half hour

Allshallbewell2021 · 29/05/2024 10:03

I have slept for sections of many plays and films. If the seat is comfortable and it's dark - I can go easily.

I fell asleep during the live action beauty and the beast several times.

I fell asleep in the matrix - utter rubbish.

I don’t think I’ve ever walked out of a film - I think I live in the hope that it will get better…

Andywarholswig · 29/05/2024 10:11

Lord of the rings, had a good 2 hour nap, was both bored and tired

Cattenberg · 29/05/2024 10:15

I went to see Blue Jasmine with three others. I enjoyed it. A - found it hilarious and laughed like a seagull. B - chattered away in Lithuanian 😒. C - spent £7 to have a nap.

orangeleopard · 29/05/2024 10:26

I was seeing a guy who was a playwright and director, our group of friends was also in the movie industry (I was a photographer). So often I got dragged into seeing films, and as we lived in London they often done showings of a vast variety of movies - old and new. I remember watching Goodfellas and I think I fell asleep a few minutes in. I kept waking up and trying to stay awake but it was so god damn boring. I refuse to go to the cinema now, it makes me so bored and tired. I’m definitely someone who has an attention span where I need to be on my phone or have the option to pause and take breaks whilst watching

HootyMcBooby · 29/05/2024 10:28

There must be something about Evita (Madonna movie). It was garbage, but I did manage to stay awake, however, the guy in the row in front of us slept with his head completely back resting in my friends lap for the whole move, and there were other people asleep too. Terrible.

Wanted to walk out of The Exorcist Believer last year, utter contrived bullshit, but I stayed because my DH was excited to see it. So relieved when it was finished and we could leave.

Wanted to walk out of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory show at the West End - awful awful sound and couldn't make out ONE word of what was being said.

Fell asleep during The Pelican Brief, and walked out of a movie with Matt Le Blanc in a spacesuit? Can't remember the name.

user1471538283 · 29/05/2024 10:29

Years ago I fell asleep at the cinema watching Die Hard 2! I don't know how! I also fell asleep watching it at home on video although in my defence we used to switch off the lights.

I love the cinema and the only movie I walked out of was Paranormal Activity because the film was rubbish and the other watchers were noisy.

Scrumbleton · 29/05/2024 10:31

Left in the middle of eyes wide shut in cinema and Evita at the theatre at the interval. Both AWFUL

Mrsjayy · 29/05/2024 10:31

We walked out of Dark Phoenix, it's a spin off xmen . Anyway it was absolute shit I couldn't stand looking at it anymore. I used to take the kids to the Saturday cinema so I could have a nap 😀

LittleTalkingMan · 29/05/2024 10:34

Nativity 2!!!

KreedKafer · 29/05/2024 11:45

I've never walked out of a film. I did doze off briefly during Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - I was actually really enjoying the film, but I hadn't slept properly for weeks and I just couldn't keep my eyes open.

I did once get up and leave during a film, and then sneaked straight back in by a different entrance and sat somewhere else. But that was only because the cinema was about three-quarters empty (weekday matinee) and some random woman had sat herself right next to me and was driving me nuts.

honeylulu · 29/05/2024 11:45

I've never actually walked out (I'm a skinflint and like to get my money's worth - sunk costs fallacy, anyone?) But was very close to it during Die Hard. It was sooooo boring and my friend i was with agreed afterwards. I am always surprised when I hear how many people love it.

Ditto with Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I went to see it with my mum and we were both bored and baffled.

I fell asleep in one of the old Star Wars films. A male friend had persuaded me to go to an anniversary showing special. I didn't see much of it.

Also fell asleep for 30 mins during the Lego Movie (son enjoyed it though!) I was very very pregnant though and that's my excuse. However it did mean I completely missed the bit that explains the missing lego piece they need to find is the lid for the superglue so the plot didn't make much sense until explained to me afterwards.

My husband slept through almost all of Moulin Rouge (deliberately) as he realised 10 mins in this wasn't something he'd enjoy. We'd gone to a late showing and our row was otherwise empty so he flipped up the seat arm rests and laid right down. I persevered but admitted later he had the better idea!

Soowoowoomoo · 29/05/2024 11:50

The Emoji Movie! Snores my head off.

Jackie Brown
The Pelican Brief

both probably half decent films but I was way too young to be watching them, bored stiff and straight over my head.

The equivalent now is watching 5 mins of a Netflix film and turning it off, which we do all the time.

I love Jackie Brown - but it's definitely not a kid's film!

I've fallen asleep in the cinema when I've had a couple of drinks beforehand - years ago, we used to go most weeks in the 90s. Don't really go now .

TroysMammy · 29/05/2024 19:29

Also fell asleep in the cinema when I went to see Hunt For Red October. Also fell asleep when it came out on home video and also fell asleep when it was shown on TV.

Somepeoplearesnippy · 29/05/2024 20:15

I go to the theatre a lot but have to restrict it to matinees. If I go in the evening I fall asleep. I sleep so much during films I count it a triumph if I stay awake all the way through!

I've never walked out of a film but occasionally I'll leave a play during the interval. A really boring intergenerational family drama with the (brilliant) Maureen Lipman springs to mind. Also a touring performance of The Crucible where the cast substituted shouting for acting. And a performance of Of Mice and Men that was so distressing I couldn't face the second act. I can still recall the feeling of absolute relief when I walked out on to a sunny street and didn't have to think about the awfulness that was coming up! The theatre was full of school parties and I don't know how they sat through it.

And I tried to leave Wicked! during the interval but we had paid a lot for the seats so DH insisted on staying.

Tigerstripedteacher · 29/05/2024 20:32

Fell asleep during Thor: Ragnarok despite it being very loud. It was just after lunch. I think my husband has slept through at least three Harry Potters.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 29/05/2024 21:29

I fell asleep during a James Bond (not the last one which would have bored me to death, but sleep). I missed loads of explosions and guns apparently.
