Ever walked out of a film at the cinema or slept through it?

When I was younger I remember walking out of the film 24 days later, it was actually quite a good film, but I was young, had smoked a joint and got totally paranoid and freaked out by it!
I also walked out of The exorcist, just a lot of goddamn awful noise and screaming.
I fell asleep through The matrix 😂and Dh fell asleep during one of the later Bridget jones films
Anyone else?

fell asleep halfway through Oppenheimer
walked out of Poor Things

couple of years ago I walked out of a French film, don't recall the name. About six weeks later I inadvertently went to see it again (have cinema membership).
Didn't realise for about half an hour; I quite enjoyed it the second time.

Slept through The Devil Wears Prada straight from work. Lovely comfortable seat and a warm cinema.

Mnetcurious · 28/05/2024 23:21

I also fell asleep in the cinema watching the matrix, as well of the lord of the rings films 😴. Since having kids I often fall asleep during family films, even the really good ones - Pixar etc., just never recovered from the sleep deprivation. Something about darkness and a comfy chair.

maras2 · 28/05/2024 23:23

Walked out of Straw Dogs.

RosyCheekedandRobust · 28/05/2024 23:25

I walked out of Raging Bull. It was a film society screening at college. It just wasn't doing anything for me. I must give it another try some day.
I was very tired when I took a DC and some other kids to see Dr. Strange. I didn't fall fully asleep but I spaced out and couldn't follow it at all.

Walked out of 'The Crying Game' at 14 with a friend from school. Strangely, we had no idea what the film was going to be about and were never asked for ID. She was religious and we were both very confused about what was going on.

Also walked out 3yrs later on Evita, with Madonna. I didn't realise it was a musical beforehand and found if SO boring.

The very first time I tried to watch a Bond film, nearly 25 years ago. Lasted about 15 minutes before we snuck out and into another screen.

justasoul · 28/05/2024 23:25

I don’t think I’ve ever walked out of a film, but have fallen asleep a few times - last one was Dune, thanks Odeon for the reclining chairs Grin

worcesterpear · 28/05/2024 23:26

Yes walked out of Navy Seals it was the most boring film I've ever tried to watch.

Bogeyes · 28/05/2024 23:26

Walked out of Gone With The Wind...snore

XenoBitch · 28/05/2024 23:26

Never walked out or slept through a film.. I have paid for it, so I will damn well watch it... even if it is shite!

I was watching a film, and a couple walked out about 15 minutes into it. I mean, FFS, give it a chance!

SocksAndTheCity · 28/05/2024 23:26

More than I could ever count, both sleeping and walking out. I go to the cinema a lot plus film festivals though, so as a percentage it's likely no more than most people.

I concur with a PP that the Barbican cinemas are great places to get your head down for a couple of hours if you're flagging a bit. I think my most recent non-festival walkout was Free Guy (although it should have been Back to Black and I only sat through Nun 2 for the aircon) and the last ones I've fallen asleep in were Perfect Days, Bullet Train and Elvis - I've watched them all properly since Smile

Only film I ever walked out of was The Wind that shakes the barley. It was too stressful, I can't cope with any type of torture scenes.

Recently snoozed through Kung Fu panda 4. No regrets

CandiedPrincess · 28/05/2024 23:31

Slept through Star Wars Attack of the Clones at the cinema.

TotalDramarama24 · 28/05/2024 23:33

Walked out of The Accused at the cinema a long time ago, just couldn't stand watching the awful scenes on a huge screen.

WotNoUserName · 28/05/2024 23:33

I used to take my kids to Movies for juniors at Cineworld. It was £1 for a ticket back then, so I napped during loads of trashy kids films.

I've never walked out of a film.

maw1681 · 28/05/2024 23:33

Never walked out but fallen asleep a few times since having DC! Had no idea what happened at the end of encato until it came

eddiemairswife · 28/05/2024 23:36

1958/59 double bill The Fly and The Alligator People.. Husband to be had to take me home. It was awful.

VeryStressedMum · 28/05/2024 23:36

I walked out out of Harlem Nights a film with Eddie Murphy it was so rubbish. I can't remember when it was- many many years ago

Budgiegirlbob · 28/05/2024 23:37

I slept through almost the entire movie Star Wars - The Clone Wars. I took my 5 yo DS who sat on my lap and was warm and snuggly, so I just drifted off. Only woke occasionally and briefly to agree with him when he said “that bit was good, wasn’t it mummy?” before drifting straight back off again.

I just remembered when I was in my early 20s I used to go to the cinema a lot, and on one occasion, a group of older teens walked out very loudly after a couple of lines because the film was (in) French Grin it did make me wonder if people just pick films to watch at random, but also if people choose to watch a sequel without watching the first one - film was crimson rivers 2, if they’d watched the first one they’d have known it was French!

Nugg · 28/05/2024 23:38

Batman. 1989 version

longdistanceclaraclara · 28/05/2024 23:40

I've slept through quite a few. Walked out of 'Are you there god, it's me Margaret' which I had been really looking forward to as a bit of Judy Blume nostalgia. It was awful.

Hotgirlwinter · 28/05/2024 23:40

Jackie Brown
The Pelican Brief

both probably half decent films but I was way too young to be watching them, bored stiff and straight over my head.

The equivalent now is watching 5 mins of a Netflix film and turning it off, which we do all the time.
