Ever walked out of a film at the cinema or slept through it?

When I was younger I remember walking out of the film 24 days later, it was actually quite a good film, but I was young, had smoked a joint and got totally paranoid and freaked out by it!
I also walked out of The exorcist, just a lot of goddamn awful noise and screaming.
I fell asleep through The matrix 😂and Dh fell asleep during one of the later Bridget jones films
Anyone else?

Dh and I walked out of Miami Vice, we thought it was crap.

Dh fell asleep during Quantam of Solace, I had to keep nudging him awake as he was actually snoring! I enjoyed the film.

I fell asleep just the other weekend when I took my older two dc to see Dog Man. I’ve never fallen asleep in the cinema before but I am absolutely exhausted at the moment.

I dozed off at a Sandi Toksvig talk. I was in the front row.

Walked out of Avatar after 20 minutes, what a load of dross. Generally fall asleep at the cinema, find 2 hours + of any film a bit of a chore to sit through. At least you can sleep at the cinema, which you can’t do at the theatre. Have walked out of the theatre several times, most notably Wicked. Biggest crock of shit I have ever endured, I was praying for the interval so I could scarper.

Don’t blame you. Once saw her at a gala theatre show where she set up her own children to be supposedly random audience ‘participants’, at the expense of ignoring other children putting their hands up. Put me right off her, she’s a phony.

I have slept through Death in Venice at least three times, probably four.

I actually really like her and the rest of the event was good fun.

I was just really tired.

Walked out of The Matrix. It was rubbish, them year later friend's husband says it was his favourite film. I silently hedged him massively for that and still do

GiraffesAtThePark · 23/02/2025 21:19

It’s never occurred to me to walk out. I guess I don’t value my time as much as others or I hope the film will improve 😂. Never fallen asleep either that I recall.

Both ! Walked out of a film that must’ve been very boring, can’t even remember what it was ! I fall asleep constantly in the cinema, famously during one of the Harry Potters , we’d got seats right at the front and it was making me feel a bit sea sick so I had to shut my eyes ! And fell asleep..

MaltipooMama · 23/02/2025 21:28

Tbh I can't remember the last time I went to the cinema and didn't fall asleep, I now take a blanket with me so I'm extra warm and cozy for my inevitable nap after my popcorn 😀

fungibletoken · 23/02/2025 21:31

Never walked out but came very close in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The plot went absolutely nowhere in a way I'd never experienced before. And at almost 3 hours it just felt like a pisstake. That genre does nothing for me.

Slept through a fair few. Not a judgement on their quality - it's just being in a cosy seat in a warm, dark room. Includes Les Mis at the West End!

Fell asleep during loads when dd was young, most memorably the final Harry Potter. Have left two movies due to the way they had been filmed with handheld cameras - they gave me horrendous motion sickness. I usually persevere if the movie isn’t great but I draw the line at movies that make me vomit.

Yes!! I tried to watch a film I really wanted to see, Dev Patel in David Copperfield, but it was filmed with some kind of horrible swooping camera movement. I felt so sick but I persevered as I’d really wanted to see it but ended up with my eyes shut through most of it 🤢

The Revenant. Stupid and gross.
Bullet train. Load of rubbish.
Some I've went with DH that I didn't fancy I had a nice snooze in the recliners.

DH feels your pain. He had to project it when he was at university in the 70s. His most hated, boring film.

thenightsky · 23/02/2025 21:45

I slept through Space Jam and most of the Lord of the Rings. Also the yearly star wars update films. So much so, I now volunteer to dog sit adult DD's lurcher so I can escape the yearly snooze.

NoSourDough · 23/02/2025 21:46

Evita with Madonna - I was 16 at the time and thought it was a load of shit!

MistressoftheDarkSide · 23/02/2025 21:52

Fell asleep during The Matrix and The Invisible Man with Kevin Bacon. Took me about six goes each to watch them on DVD all the way through, and actually quite enjoyed them but for the life of me just couldn't stay awake....

I did sleep all the way through a King Crimson concert a few years back. It had been a long day and we'd got complimentary tickets, and I had no idea of the band. Later the music was described to me by a friend as being designed for mathematicians, which may explain it because I'm not that way inclined at all. Given there were three drum kits and loads of percussion I still think it was a noteworthy achievement 😁

FlipFlopsSpots · 24/02/2025 00:16

My DC and I walked out of 'return of the Jedi' after about an hour. It was vvv boring!

Last weekend I fell asleep in the middle of 'dogman' because I wasn't feeling v well and the cinema seats reclined so i was cosy and had my coat over me like a nice blanket! Felt so good to lie down in the dark and know no-one would disturb me for an hour or two :)
