Ever walked out of a film at the cinema or slept through it?

When I was younger I remember walking out of the film 24 days later, it was actually quite a good film, but I was young, had smoked a joint and got totally paranoid and freaked out by it!
I also walked out of The exorcist, just a lot of goddamn awful noise and screaming.
I fell asleep through The matrix 😂and Dh fell asleep during one of the later Bridget jones films
Anyone else?

We don't go anymore but the last few times DH fell asleep for most of the film. Really annoyed me, £20 per ticket isn't cheap, recliner seats and he's snoring away!

Yes!
I have snoozed through Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Harry Potter, the most recent Avatar & the remake of Dune - all deathly boring & dh's cinema choices 😀

With the exception of Avatar they are all my favourites.
Im wondering now if I’d like Avatar as I seem to have similar film tastes to your dh

I desperately wanted to walk out of La La Land but I was with my friend who had paid me in for my birthday, so I felt obliged to grit my teeth and power through it.

Once it got to the end it turned out he hated it as much as me and we could have spent a couple of hours in the pub instead.

UnNiddeRides · 29/05/2024 00:42

Many years ago my sister & I skulked out of a French film. I think we went to see it because Thierry Lhermitte was in it.
Nowadays it’s a given that I’ll fall asleep at the cinema. The local Odeon has beds so I sometimes think, just give in to the devil, acknowledge I’ll fall asleep & book the comfiest nap facility available. Not sure how it would look to share one with a 25+ year old son.
That said, I did stay awake for the new Planet of The Apes film via a well planned use of coffee & making sure I wasn’t too warm or cold. And my wide arse meant that my seat sometimes changed incline without my consent, which was a little startling.

AliceKyteler · 29/05/2024 00:42

I walked out of Mama Mia.
I love Abba but I went to see this under the insistence of my ex who brought all of their friends too.
Everyone in the cinema had already watched it at least once, they all started laughing hysterically as soon as it started.
Lots of staring at me with "Why isn't she laughing?"
With all the chanting, manic laughing and clapping I felt like I'd joined a cult so I eventually fled out into the night, safe away from their clutches.

Walked out of The Joker. Couldn't stand it and still can't explain why to DP.

LondonQueen · 29/05/2024 00:45

I fell asleep in the new Ghostbusters film, DH didn't wake me up as "I clearly needed it!"

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 29/05/2024 00:59

Left after 15 minutes of The Lighthouse. Bored to tears, young folk being noisy/fidgety behind us, and a small, claustrophobic cinema. Bar was open 20 yards away, so I didn't see any point in prolonging the torture.

Theoriginalmrscillianmurphy · 29/05/2024 01:13

Fell asleep during a Bruce willis film. Can't remember the name, invisible or something like that.

Went to watch Fury, got our food went in and sat down. Film was on and we thought we'd only missed the first few minutes. Ten minutes later the credits went up 🤣 we waited for the next showing, fell asleep and woke up to the staff sweeping up.

Two dopes.

Onautopilot1 · 29/05/2024 01:20

Nodded off within 15 minutes when I went to 2001, Space Odyssey.

Ditto Easy Rider, but I woke up for the last 5 minutes when all the action took place.

I routinely slept through them in my misspent youth, because I was always stoned as a badger. More recently, me and my bf were in tricky situation where we’d been to a party the night/day before, and had to check out of where we were staying at 10am with killer hangovers after not much sleep. We were staying in another hotel in the same city that night but couldn’t check in until 3pm. We were in that horrible too tired/hungover to function state. He had the genius idea of going to the cinema for a sleep. It was brilliant, we paid extra for the comfy seats, loaded ourselves up with snacks for breakfast, had a munch and then were both out for the count before the trailers ended 😂. We also chose the film based on the running time…went for the longest one available for maximum snoozage.

IndecentPropolis · 29/05/2024 01:37

Fell asleep halfway through Godzilla. God it was loud but I was tired.

Slept
pretty much all the way through the last 50 Shades Of Grey film. But I’d planned to really - my friend wanted to see it so badly that she paid for my ticket. I’d said no initially because I knew I’d fall asleep. Eventually I thought oh well it hasn’t cost me anything and I can nap in the cinema just as well as I can on the sofa.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 29/05/2024 01:44

Most recently I slept through Oppenheimer. It was loooooong, and it's not like I was kept on the edge of my seat wondering how it would end. Nice comfy cinema with wine and reclining chairs didn't help.

Myfluffyblanket · 29/05/2024 01:47

I should have walked out of 'Emanuelle'. I was nineteen and with my fiance whose friends had all said how marvellous , liberating (for women) and arty it was .
It really upset me .
I wished I had fallen asleep during Stephen Kings' dire film The Langoliers , but we were poor and I had paid . Three hours we'll never get back ...oh , the irony .

MrsMop1964 · 29/05/2024 01:52

Fell asleep several times during the most recent Batman film. I only went to keep my daughter company and was already tired after a long day at work. The film was really dark and I was too bored to stay awake. She kept prodding me as I may have been snoring!

OMG is that how much it costs now 😳?
Haven't been in years.

SantasRubiksCube · 29/05/2024 02:12

I've only ever fallen asleep in the cinema once, DH persuaded me to go and see Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and it was the most boring thing I'd ever watched so fell asleep and started snoring. It was in the days before we had kids so I wasn't even sleep deprived just bored out my skull 😂

Veenah · 29/05/2024 02:17

I walked out of The Producers, it was just awful. I made a conscious effort to go to sleep during No Country For Old Men, I hated it but friend was enjoying it so I stayed and had a nap!

Somepeoplearesnippy · 29/05/2024 02:36

I sleep so much in cinemas! Also theatres. Its an expensive way of curing insomnia!

Zanatdy · 29/05/2024 02:42

Yes. I fell asleep through one of the Harry Potter’s. I had a hangover

I have to try and take some sweets to the theatre to keep me awake. When lights go down, it’s time for a nap!!

Walked out of Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels many years ago.

Not so DExH had decided it would be great to go to the cinema after I finished work one Saturday teatime and there were a couple of films I would have happily gone to see but was very clear I had no interest in LS&2SB. Anyway, he got tickets and we met outside the cinema after I finished work. I was so cross that he had chosen that film and said I’d give it 20 minutes then, if I hadn’t got into it, I was leaving and would go home on my own. It was, as I had suspected, awful and so I left the 1/3 full cinema and went to the bar in the foyer and bought a drink.

Got chatting to the manager who was serving people waiting to go into something else and he was so apologetic that I’d really not enjoyed that I wasn’t going back in. He was equally shocked that ExH didn’t come out to find if I was ok. Manager gave me a couple of complimentary vouchers so I could go and see something else,
of my choice, later in the month and even gave me a free refill of my drink!!

Was the last time I let ExH book tickets for a Saturday evening film!!

I thought this was going to end- ‘and thirty years later that cinema manager is my wonderful dh and dad to our six kids’ - I’m a little let down by the ending tbh ;-)

Catnipcupcakes · 29/05/2024 03:39

I cried with relief that I could finally leave at the end of Lord of the Rings. I didn’t know what it was and would have walked out at about 20 minutes but it was a date with a new boyfriend and I wanted him to like me.

We’ve just had our 20th wedding anniversary. We went to see ‘Mrs Harris goes to Paris’ and he slept through most of it. I thought it was great!
