Ever walked out of a film at the cinema or slept through it?

When I was younger I remember walking out of the film 24 days later, it was actually quite a good film, but I was young, had smoked a joint and got totally paranoid and freaked out by it!
I also walked out of The exorcist, just a lot of goddamn awful noise and screaming.
I fell asleep through The matrix 😂and Dh fell asleep during one of the later Bridget jones films
Anyone else?

jmh740 · 28/05/2024 23:42

It's more rare I stay awake through a whole film, took ds to latest mission impossible film I was asleep before the trailers finished!

justasoul · 28/05/2024 23:43

Oh I feel asleep on the 20th anniversary re-release of the original Star Wars film Blush fell asleep when they boarding the ships and woke up when they were coming back 🤣 tried watching it on tv and same thing happened!

I fell asleep in Meistersinger (okay it’s an opera) , and when I woke up, nothing had happened.

My waters broke during Meistersinger… but very close to the end. I think it may have induced labour, as I was in the front row and about two feet from the giant orchestra, which was making DS ricochet about internally. (After which nothing happened, labour didn’t progress at all, and I had a CS what felt like several weeks later, lest it sounds too dramatic!)

(If it was the ROH revival in 2012, I agree it was dull!)

The only film I’ve ever walked out of was Michael Haneke’s La Pianiste — having just watched Isabelle Huppert’s masochistic piano teacher character try to have sex with her vicious elderly mother, I decided to leave before her pupil rapes her because she’s instructed him to, in detail, by letter. Michael Haneke is brilliant, as is IH, but I couldn’t hack any more self-mutilation in the bathtub.

I would have walked out if I'd been on my own 'moulin rouge' biggest pile of 💩 ever. But my bf & friend thought it was 'ok'.

wish I could have slept through it.

Tarkan · 28/05/2024 23:49

Never walked out of a movie and never fallen asleep in the cinema but there's something about the movie Armageddon. I've never seen the whole thing as every time I watch it I fall asleep. 🤣

Spirallingdownwards · 28/05/2024 23:51

Fell asleep during the ads before Pokemon The Movie and woke up as the film credits rolled at the end. Thank god!

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 28/05/2024 23:52

I too walked out of reservoir dogs@rubyslipperss at the same place. Also The Fly when his ear fell off. So it must be ears for me! Both times I came back after a bit.

CharlotteBog · 28/05/2024 23:54

I used to take the kids to the cinema just so I could have a snooze knowing they were safe and entertained.
I've also fallen asleep during films I've wanted to see. I think I am chronically tired.
Fell asleep during Miss Saigon (stage show) - sodding helicopter in that!
Mozart opera in Prague.
The ballet.
Put me in a warm, dark room and zzzzzzzz.
Of course I spend many hours in my actual bed at night willing sleep to arrive.

Psiren · 28/05/2024 23:55

Walked out of Saw 2, enjoyed the first film but this was just too much gratuitous violence. Never bothered with any more in the franchise. At the weekend fell asleep during Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Enjoyed the 3 previous films, bit of daft nonsense but this was so boring and far too long. An hour in and still no real movement of the plot me and DH agreed to give it 10 more minutes (its a 2.5 hour film) and then we both promptly fell asleep 🤣

Perfectpots · 28/05/2024 23:55

Only walked out once.
Slept through a fair few though.

Back when I was in my 20s mainly.

AliceMcK · 28/05/2024 23:56

I always get confused with 28 days and 28 days later. The Sandra bullock one, fucking awful, didn’t walk out as it was video I think, but gave up. The zombie one I actually liked.

many kids movies I’ve slept through, usually with a hangover. Before I had DCs I’d regularly take younger cousins and my DSD to the movies and sleep the entire movie. Yes I was a shit guardian, I know!

Only movie I walked out of was He-Man when I was a kid.

larkstar · 28/05/2024 23:57

@FussyPud I fell asleep during every single one of the LotR films - I didn't really want to go anyway. To this day - never seen any of them.

fretaway · 28/05/2024 23:57

I only regularly started going to the cinema when I was at uni and always used to fall asleep, something about the dark room which just made me nod off.
It didn’t matter whether it was a rom com or action film with huge explosions, I would always drift off half way through then wake up 5 minutes from the end. Fell asleep on my first date with dh watching The Green Mile and it was a running joke for a few years that I never saw the end.
Took me around a decade to get out of that habit!

I walked out out of Harlem Nights a film with Eddie Murphy it was so rubbish. I can't remember when it was- many many years ago

And me! it was absolute shite.

Lots of people walked out of Babylon, I thought the first 1.5 hrs was fine, had a snooze and then watched the last hour….

poorremus · 29/05/2024 00:02

I wish I had walked out of Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

Hahaha this reminded me of my ExH who insisted I take him to see Sleeping Beauty the ballet instead of my friend who bought me the tickets. Five mins in he was snoring his head off. Ushers finally came and told him he’d have to leave if he didn’t stay awake.

The only time I’ve almost slept at a live event was an armature opera event my friends armature company was putting on. I think it was Beethoven. I made my excuses during the interval because I was nodding off and we were on the front row.

crub · 29/05/2024 00:04

We left during the film Heat, neither of us could understand what was going on. Years later I fell asleep during the Lego movie, unfortunately I snore and snorted myself awake. I was unwell with a cold to. I shot up and sleep walked to the doors and fresh air leaving the kids and MIL behind. Everyone has noticed.

MrsSkylerWhite · 29/05/2024 00:06

A film, no, but Michael Palin “Erebus” tour, yes. Sorry, Michael.

Ireolu · 29/05/2024 00:07

Slept through 'evil does not exist' I snored a little too and DH kept nudging me.
Walked out of 'tropic thunder' humour was lost on us.

TheFireflies · 29/05/2024 00:12

Walked out of Swingers, years ago. Didn’t get the humour, found it awful and tedious.

wanted desperately to walk out of Mamma Mia, knew within the first ten minutes that I’d made a terrible mistake, but I was there with MIL so had to endure it… while my husband was chilling out at home. He still owes me for that.

Fell asleep during Van Helsing until the horrendous screechy vampire women appeared and woke me up again, grr. Diabolical rubbish.

Also fell asleep during a George Clooney/Jennifer Lopez movie, but that was because I was tired.

Peonii · 29/05/2024 00:14

I haven't walked out but I've slept through a fair few. There's a bunch of marvel/DC films that I've slept for parts of the film - sometimes I find the fight scenes boring and that coupled with a snug chair and DH's arm or shoulder is a good recipe for a quick nap!

PinkyBlueMe · 29/05/2024 00:27

Walked out of the Lemony Snicket film - found it boring.

SavingTheBestTillLast · 29/05/2024 00:29

After two consecutive all nighters before my first year Crits at university myself and two flat mates slept all the way through MadMax.
I still haven’t seen it

HereComesEverybody · 29/05/2024 00:30

Yes!
I have snoozed through Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Harry Potter, the most recent Avatar & the remake of Dune - all deathly boring & dh's cinema choices 😀
