So, summer in nearly upon us and I still haven't gotten into shape!
AIBU to ask some of you to join me in a 30 day challenge to strive towards being a little bit healthier?
My aim is to get up early every morning and do a 30 min walk/run and stick to a healthy diet.
I'm hoping we could all post a message every night/other night updating on our progress and being a support of sorts to each other to keep us focused on our long term goal.
Anyone up for it?

Well done everyone! I didn’t do too well for day 1. It isn’t an exercise day for me today but I did 13000 steps. We were out with friends for the day then late home so I didn’t over eat, but didn’t eat healthily.

I had 2 x black coffees
vegan aubergine lasagne and side salad in a pub, was mainly veggies and pasta sheets rather than cheese type sauce

1 glass of red wine
1 pint of lager shandy
McDonald’s veggie wrap, medium fries and a Coke Zero
in bed now quite hungry as I didn’t get enough protein

This morning I weighed 78.3 kilos (down from 85 kilos at the end of March).

I should be going for a run tomorrow morning but got a really snotty cold and not sure if I will make it out if it keeps me awake.

Theoldbird · 28/05/2024 00:12

Have eaten breakfast and dinner today, no lunch as my downfall is constant snacking and eating too much. so I did have a good breakfast and substantial dinner but still less than usual. I think eating within a small window might be the way to go. It also gives the digestive system a break and is better for dental health.

Didn't manage to do the 100 skips today, But on the list for tomorrow

13 stone exactly. I’m just under 5ft 4. So in 30 days I will be 8 pounds lighter.

Today I will calorie track to 1500 calories and do 10,000 steps. I need to find 15 mins to do some cardio too. I’ll drink 1 litre of water.

Well the calorie tracker was a good idea. Not that I stuck to 1500 but for the realisation of how many calories I eat. I clocked 2045 and 900 was lunch. So I’ll be planning better today! I did do 10,000 steps and normally manage that daily. I did do a 15 min cardio workout and had loads of water. I’m only weighing weekly. So here’s to day 2/30.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 28/05/2024 06:32

Joining in with this ! I’m 59 and am my biggest weight ever 🙄 want to lose a stone in two months. Starting with a low carb and using my fitness plan. Need to up my walking too 🥳

Beezknees · 28/05/2024 06:40

Good morning everyone! Day 2.

I am going into the office today which is full of temptation, we get free snacks provided (crisps, chocolate etc). But I'm determined not to resist.

Beezknees · 28/05/2024 06:41

Determined TO resist that should say! What a terrible slip 🤣

Jellycatrabbit · 28/05/2024 07:17

Yesterday was 💛

I avoided snacking all day but then ate the kids leftovers and had second tea once they'd gone go bed.

But also did 15,000 steps including 35 "exercise minutes " at the trampoline Park and am 1lb down this morning.

Back to the office today and the dangers of the snack van.

Tamuchly · 28/05/2024 07:41

Late to the party but I’d love to join in!

Need to lose for health reasons as my bl**dy arthritis is driving me mad with pain. I can’t do a lot of exercise right now but I went swimming twice last week so hoping to replicate that this week. I will be focusing on not snacking so I’m going to be drinking a lot of weak squash instead and sticking to normal sized meals. I suppose I’d better pop over Boots today and see what the damage is but I’m only going to weigh once per month as otherwise I get obsessed and start doing it every day 🙄

Todays meals: cinnamon porridge and blueberries, pizza and salad, beans on toast, no eating after 6pm!

Lets go!

I'm the same with weighing myself if I'm not careful. That and calorie counting I obsess over.

ShaunaSadeki · 28/05/2024 08:58

I weigh everyday as my weight fluctuates so much I like to see the pattern over time, but I am not logging my food this time as I get obsessed with that.

I already have a good idea about portion size and I lost 3 stone a couple of years back but was obsessed with macros that I didn’t address my over all greediness and reduce my appetite then I ended up gaining a lot back when my exercise slipped over the winter and I was still trying to get loads of protein but also eat normally. I have joined the gym this time so terrible weather doesn’t stop me exercising. If I don’t exercise I find I seek the dopamine hit from wine, chocolate and crisps. I have also given up smoking which accelerated the regain.

No change to the scales this morning, but after salty food yesterday I will take that.

lairyfights9 · 28/05/2024 09:26

Good morning. Yesterday was 💛 for me.

New day today and so far so good.. did day 11 of 30 day shred at 6am, level 2 was rough but I got through it. Had my protein smoothie for breakfast and now need to try and control myself for the rest of the day!

Good luck today all 😊

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 28/05/2024 10:24

Morning all.

Greek yogurt low sugar granola and blueberry breakfast.

lunch is spring veggie clear soup with veg crudités and Ryvita

dinner might be Cornish pasty with mash potato, spinach and sautéed mushrooms

FiveShelties · 28/05/2024 10:49

Back home now after a month in France and have definitely brought back very unwanted excess baggage. Weighed in at 150.6 pounds and want to be under 10 stone so 139.6 pounds would leave me with 11 pounds to lose.

Have jetlag, which is a pain, but have eaten well so hopefully a good start. Good luck everyone.

Samisam86 · 28/05/2024 10:55

Can I join please

CornflowerBlueSky · 28/05/2024 11:21

Yesterday went well. Day 2 with no wine, stuck within 1500 calories and did a 6km walk.
Walked again this morning, 2 eggs on plain toast for breakfast, very small portion of left over spaghetti bolognese and 2 spoonfuls of mashed potato with some rocket. A bit random and not great as I'm trying to cut down on white carbs, but both were left over from the kids and would otherwise have been wasted. Having a barbecue with friends tonight, but plan to stick with salad and ckicken.

weaseleyes · 28/05/2024 12:10

Day 1 for me. Forced myself on the scales. Number was too horrifying to post. Have busted through the threshold I said I'd ever reach again! (Although I'm still 31 pounds down on my highest about 18 months ago.) So far have had a rather calorie laden but mostly low carb breakfast, so am doing ok on the bread avoidance. Am aiming to reset my carb cravings this week and revert to just lunch and dinner next week with no snacking, as that works best for me when I can manage it.

Beezknees · 28/05/2024 13:17

Just on my lunch break. Sticking to my calories so far. Coming in at 1491 for the day if I stick to it for dinner too. Not much exercise today as I can never be bothered when I'm in the office, but I will be going to the gym on Thursday and Sunday.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 28/05/2024 14:20

Oh dear. Just over 11.5 stone but guessed that. I’m on it like a car bonnet to lose!

TenInSport · 28/05/2024 15:53

I'm a bit late to the party but I'm in too please!

I've just weighed in at 11 stone 6 lbs, which at 5ft 7 juuuuust tips me over into "overweight" with a BMI of 25.1. In an ideal world I am aiming for 10 stone, but I need to break this down so my targets are to:

  1. Get back to "healthy" weight (11st 4lbs)
  2. Get down to 10st 'anything.'
  3. Lose 10% of my body weight to get to 10st 4.
  4. Get down to 10st by the time I turn 41 (8 months away).

A few years ago I weighed just over 13 stone, but lost nearly 2 stone in 3 months during a struggle with my mental health. As I recovered I worked hard to maintain the weight loss, also with an end goal of getting to 10st, but I only ever got to 10st 10 and then as I started to feel happier and more content with life things slipped and I seem to have put nearly a stone of that back on without really knowing how.

I have been trying to be more vaguely aware of what I have been eating for the last couple of months as I noticed my clothes were getting tighter and I have been yo-yo-ing between 11st 4 and 11st 10, but now it is time for proper action.

I am also hoping to lose some inches, particularly from my waist. I am very Apple shaped and carry all my weight on my stomach. I have just measured my waist and it is 37 inches. My hips are only 38.5 inches and I have a family history of Type 2 Diabetes and heart disease. I am aware that this waist size massively increases my risk of both, so this is not just about vanity at this point!

My plan is to follow 16:8 in the first instance as this works well with my work pattern. Health issues mean that exercise isn't easy for me, so my initial target is to hit 10,000 steps per day and then try to build from there. I am going to weigh-in every Wednesday morning from now on.

I'm hoping that this thread will keep me feeling accountable and also help me feel that I'm not alone as I read everyone else's stories!

MammaTill2Pojkar · 28/05/2024 17:59

I finally broke my fast around 6pm today. I've done my 30 mins exercise and did not snack at all❤! So looking forward to some snacks after the kids are in bed.

I will probably only weigh in every few days or week.

I'm really going to need some help keeping myself in check in a few days, I've been planning a tasty celebration for my husbands new job and he finally got the contract signed so that'll happen this weekend and one of my boys has a birthday on Monday which means birthday cake 😬

Thistle101 · 28/05/2024 18:25

Day 2
Breakfast - scrambled egg
Lunch - Fruit salad ( I know not much but worked through my lunch so didn't have time to properly eat)
Dinner - Chicken casserole (quite a big portion as I didn't have lunch)

Haven't exercised today so I'm giving myself a ♥️- need to start exercising more!

Hope everyone else is getting on okay!

SpicyNikNak · 28/05/2024 18:47

Hope everyone has got on OK today. I've done alright food wise with around 1500 cals and managed day 5 of the 30ds. Interested in how you're finding level 2 @lairyfights9.

thesnailandthewhale · 28/05/2024 19:13

A rubbish nights sleep last night ... thumping headache, stomach cramps etc. Possibly due to no caffeine / refined sugar yesterday. I feel much better today but am tired due to being awake half the night. A trip to the dentist today has left me with a sore mouth so avoiding binge eating has been easy today!

B: none
L: Chicken, noodles and veg
D: Scrambled egg on one slice of toast
Snack: Protein shake

Early night planned - catch up on much needed sleep and get my 8 hours in :)

Eggsley · 28/05/2024 20:59

I was 12st 13.8 lbs this morning so I am back in the 12's which is a good start. Haven't had the best day food-wise as I took my mum out for the day and she is constantly trying to make me eat stuff.

I did do more steps than normal but haven't had nearly enough water today, so I will mostly be drinking water this evening!

ShaunaSadeki · 28/05/2024 21:17

Mixed day for me today, terrible sleep and cold and too much work mean I have done barely any steps, currently on about 1000 🙄. But I did manage a glute band work out at lunchtime

Food wise mixed:
2 black coffee
protein shake
berries, sugar free granola, yoghurt, seeds, banana
Dinner (at my mums, so not my choice but did the best I could)
Vegan lasagne (again! 😂), salad, fruit and oat cream, glass of white wine
lots of water

Aiming to get out for that run at 7.30 tomorrow
