There's a CF parked in my drive

Village fete day. Parking's a nightmare. Come back from my food shop to find some CF has parked on my drive. So I parked across my drive (dropped kerb but no double yellows or white driveway signs) to put my shopping away. Nearest proper parking is going to be a 5-10 min walk away I reckon - it's heaving! No specific AIBU but I know you lot love a parking drama.
Can I leave my car infront of the driveway and head out to the fete? It would block the car in ... but there's no note, no blue badge etc ... can I get a parking fine?
My DH thinks we should park properly and walk back in but tbh im enraged someone parked on my drive!!!

I’d block them in and go out. It would be worth the risk of a fine to me to be honest

StormingNorman · 05/05/2024 13:21

I’ll be annoyed with you if you don’t leave your car there 😂

ooooohnoooooo · 05/05/2024 13:22

A diagram is mandatory 😬

Go out. All day. And all evening. Have a ball.

Chreky fuckers

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 05/05/2024 13:22

I dont know about the legality of blocking a car on your own drive, but I would do exactly what you have done and give zero fucks about it. I'd probably have a beer or two at the fete so I was over the limit to move my car.

murasaki · 05/05/2024 13:22

Have a lovely time at the fete! For hours!

Haydenn · 05/05/2024 13:23

Well you shouldn’t block them in, but I probably would.

endofthelinefinally · 05/05/2024 13:23

It depends if you would get a ticket for parking across a drive (even if it is your own drive). We do here and the traffic wardens will walk all around the streets looking, as it is easy pickings.

Holmcross · 05/05/2024 13:23

I would do the same as you! What an arsehole

Celticliving · 05/05/2024 13:23

I would block them in and leave a note on the window saying "dear parking official. I have parked across my own dropped kerb as some random CF stranger has parked in MY drive. Needed to park somewhere as we are going on holiday for a week."

Then go and enjoy your day.

DancingWithYouInTheSummerRain · 05/05/2024 13:24

I would leave it there with a note on saying that you are the property owner and the car on the drive is trespassing. I'd then go to the fate, visit the cider/beer/wine stalls and let the CF wait until you are legal to drive again before you move your car!

Honestly, who thinks it is ok to park on someone's drive that they don't know!

AllBlackEverything · 05/05/2024 13:24

Definitely block them in and go out. So rude!

So you need to look up the rules for your area.

All day and evening and have several glasses of wine while you’re at it. Can’t move the car then even if you want to.

Luxell934 · 05/05/2024 13:25

That’s really not on someone parking on your actual drive way. I’d park across the drive (if allowed and you know you won’t get a ticket) either they will have to knock on your door or they will have to leave their car there until you move. Be careful they don’t damage your car though, I wouldn’t put it past someone who has the balls to park on someone they don’t know drive way.

Dareisayiseethesunshine · 05/05/2024 13:25

Hopefully they sell wine at the fete. Then your car is parked til tomorrow..

LittleGreenDragons · 05/05/2024 13:26

Worth the fine imo. Dont move it until the morning due to drinking heavily at the fete Grin

Howdoesitworkagain · 05/05/2024 13:26

Maximum CFery!

I’d definitely be parking across my drive, heading to the fete and partaking in the local cider or whatever. CF will have to wait as long as it takes to get their car back. They could have parked 5-10 minutes away and walked after all.

Eggmoobean · 05/05/2024 13:27

Put a note on window explaining for the traffic person, then go to the fete - particularly to enjoy the beer tent. Lots of yummy cider and crisps , which of course you’ll need to allow to wear off before you move your vehicle 😀 I would say tomorrow, about 11am….

Overthebow · 05/05/2024 13:27

Don’t move it! Go to the fete and enjoy, drink lots there and stay out all day. Or come back, sit in your house, drink more and wait.

Peclet · 05/05/2024 13:28

Are you sure that you don’t know the person who has parked there? Many moons ago a regular on MN had the exact same thing- turns out her teen son had told a friend that it was no worries to park on the drive but had failed to inform his parents!

Prinnny · 05/05/2024 13:29

So rude! 100% block them in and go out for the day and enjoy several alcoholic beverages! Let us know what happens on your return tho!

Celticliving · 05/05/2024 13:29

OP, you don't need to drink if you don't want to. Just tell them that you have had some drinks and not able to move the car.

AreYouShittingMe · 05/05/2024 13:29

I don't think you should park 'properly' and walk in, when you have a perfectly located drive that you purchased along with your house. The person in your drive chose to park there, therefore should be willing to accept the consequences of their actions.
I mean, come on- what really goes through the minds of someone who parks on someone else's property?

BranchGold · 05/05/2024 13:31

Absolutely block them in!

Before you leave make sure you take pictures of their car/reg and your car incase of any damage.

Scampuss · 05/05/2024 13:31

Yes, go enjoy the fete.
