There's a CF parked in my drive

Village fete day. Parking's a nightmare. Come back from my food shop to find some CF has parked on my drive. So I parked across my drive (dropped kerb but no double yellows or white driveway signs) to put my shopping away. Nearest proper parking is going to be a 5-10 min walk away I reckon - it's heaving! No specific AIBU but I know you lot love a parking drama.
Can I leave my car infront of the driveway and head out to the fete? It would block the car in ... but there's no note, no blue badge etc ... can I get a parking fine?
My DH thinks we should park properly and walk back in but tbh im enraged someone parked on my drive!!!

If she was able to call you to ask you to move, she was able to call and ask if she was ok to park there in the first place...

Sj07 · 06/05/2024 20:52

Get drunk. So if they do call the police.. You can't drive unfortunately. Sorryyyy x

They’ve parked in your actual drive way!!. I’m sorry but I’m 🤣🤣🤣 at the cheek of them. I didn’t think anyone was that hard faced.

The police will only respond if you are preventing someone from leaving their own drive in an emergency. If there are no lines, I'd park there even if you get a fine. I'd dispute it and point out that someone was parked down your drive and clealry the council wasn't managing parking sufficiently for them to do so. Take pictures. I'd riks a fine to block them in.

JustAnotherManicMomday · 06/05/2024 22:18

Go out, have fun if the police contact you just say you thought dp had gone and bought a new car as thy had mentioned wanting to buy one recently. Then say you didn't realise someone was trespassing on your property

So. It was someone from school 😱😱😱 (clearly) not a good friend but someone who has dropped off their DS a few times for parties over the years so knows where we live.
A couple of weeks ago a few people were chatting about the fete and I said we were off to visit family that weekend. I didn't recall this as it was a massively offhand comment (but makes sense as that was the plan at one point), but apparently this woman remembered, and conveniently when they were searching for a space this morning just thought she'd help herself.
She called this afternoon (when she figured she was blocked in) and honestly, of all the clever quips I had prepared I was so shocked it was someone I knew I just said I'd be home shortly to move it. Put phone down and friends told me to finish my drink and not rush. Half an hour later I got back and she was clearly half way between seething and massively embarrassed, so I gave her my keys (I'm not drunk but over the limit) and she moved my car, moved her car and then moved my car back on the drive.
Sorry it wasn't a dramatic showdown..... but she won't be doing it again.

If she knew your number to call you, she ought to have called to ask permission to park. CF. She had no idea whether you might have told someone else they could, or some family member was going to be staying in the house.

My DS parked in a space in front of his GFs neighbours house (not his drive, but one he used, because the street was set up with house facing spaces along the edge) He called the police and told them DS had parked in his drive, and without checking the truth, they woke me up to tell me. They must have looked up his reg number and from there the address, and then my phone number. If they had checked that the complainant did not have a drive, I would not have been woken.

So you could try calling and asking them to contact the driver.

Feel free to read the updates everyone!

RecklessGoddess · 06/05/2024 23:07

Wow, I hope she's learnt her lesson,. Always ask first, it's not your property, so you don't have the right to just do what you want without permission!

CJ0374 · 05/05/2024 14:20

Leave a note on their car:

Hola CF,
We have gone to Majorca for 2 weeks 😂

🤣🤣🤣

Be a sport. It's village fete after all. Park as safely as possible and do leave a note for the CF if you've blocked it. Too much stress is no good to you or the fete goers!! Parking mistakes are made on such exciting village days and you don't know the circumstances of the other person/person maybe with babies? Hopefully it's all blown over by now??😀

Be a sport ? Maybe she has babies? Doesn’t mean you can behave like a twat and park on someone else’s drive!

think we’ve found the culprit here 💀

LoveSandbanks · 07/05/2024 06:59

She could at least have sent a fucking text.

Couldn’t find anywhere to park, have left car on your drive, hope you don’t mind (too much)

niffynickers · 07/05/2024 10:11

Id be livid but parking in front of dropped kerb is illegal even if its your own and you could be prosecuted for it

MaggieFS · 07/05/2024 10:48

@Oldsu needs to start a new thread so it's possible to search posts by the OP, but link to it here so we can all enjoy it! Love a CF parking thread; the audacity of some people is unreal.

Marieb19 · 11/05/2024 18:16

It's your drive. They have NO right to park there. You are bother being ridiculously tolerant. You are perfectly entitled to block them in.

LubyLooTwo · 11/05/2024 20:22

You should have blocked them in and gone of to your appointment.

Sakuem · 11/05/2024 21:20

Can the police get the stranger's car towed off your land for trespassing on private property and blocking you from getting into your own driveway?
xx

Stressyfab · 11/05/2024 21:28

LubyLooTwo · 11/05/2024 20:22

You should have blocked them in and gone of to your appointment.

That is exactly what she did.
