There's a CF parked in my drive

Village fete day. Parking's a nightmare. Come back from my food shop to find some CF has parked on my drive. So I parked across my drive (dropped kerb but no double yellows or white driveway signs) to put my shopping away. Nearest proper parking is going to be a 5-10 min walk away I reckon - it's heaving! No specific AIBU but I know you lot love a parking drama.
Can I leave my car infront of the driveway and head out to the fete? It would block the car in ... but there's no note, no blue badge etc ... can I get a parking fine?
My DH thinks we should park properly and walk back in but tbh im enraged someone parked on my drive!!!

I'm firmly in the "risk a fine to prove a point" camp. A neighbour parked in my drive for months once and flatly refused to move. There was nothing I could do.

But also, some people have very zealous parking wardens. Ours don't even fine red lines or yellow lines, let alone driveways. I wish they would, there's always a parking drama in my street.

How did you tolerate that.

Why did they do that?

Oldermum84 · 05/05/2024 14:41

I would deffo have parked across the drive and gone out. Please update later?!

Riverlee · 05/05/2024 14:41

Following with interest.

mentalbandwidth · 05/05/2024 14:46

Pulling in for the updates 🚙

daffodilandtulip · 05/05/2024 14:46

@suburburban because they had no tax or mot. I didn't tolerate it but I tried everything and you can't do anything about it.

Itiswhysofew · 05/05/2024 14:46

VG diagram.

Leave a note asking what made them think that they are entitled to park in a private drive. Honestly🙄

Someone's parked across my drive as I write. But I live in a small village, in the middle of nowhere, and nobody gives a toss about round here😁

You can’t get a parking fine.
Yes just enjoy your day and leave your car where it is.
They are trespassing on your land

Agree with @BranchGold re getting car Ref.

You can for parking over a dropped curb

Mountainpika · 05/05/2024 14:48

I'm hope this isn't a reverse parking thread now we're all in gear to tailgate it.

Mums dropping there kids off and having a good long chat in our road.
Or during parents evening, plays, Christmas pantomime….etc etc etc

I get that people would do it, but it’s the thinking it’s ok that surprises me!

wobblyweasel · 05/05/2024 14:55

Looking forward to the update!

Whataweirdsituation · 05/05/2024 14:56

Placemarking! Have fun at the fete!

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 05/05/2024 14:56

If there was any chance of me getting a ticket/fine I wouldn't park across the drive but I'd also be mightily p'eed off tbh. Could you throw out lots of bird food around it, thus encouraging a nice but thorough white (💩) washing of said vehicle?

Trickabrick · 05/05/2024 14:57

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 05/05/2024 13:22

I dont know about the legality of blocking a car on your own drive, but I would do exactly what you have done and give zero fucks about it. I'd probably have a beer or two at the fete so I was over the limit to move my car.

This is 100% what I would do. I’d also ply my DH with alcohol too so he couldn’t move the car either 😂

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 05/05/2024 14:58

I hope you've gone to the fete!
We always parked across our dropped kerb when dd lived at home, 1 car and 1 campervan on the drive and one car across the dropped kerb, never got a ticket in 20+ years.
If they're hanging around when you get back walk past like you don't live there until they've gone, then scurry inside and peep out the curtains when they come back 🤣

Greywitch2 · 05/05/2024 15:00

I'd absolutely do it. Who on earth thinks it's ok to park on someone else's drive?

suburburban · 05/05/2024 15:00

daffodilandtulip · 05/05/2024 14:46

@suburburban because they had no tax or mot. I didn't tolerate it but I tried everything and you can't do anything about it.

Did you have a big drive.

Awful that they could do that. Most people with any decency wouldn't

Peclet · 05/05/2024 15:02

invested now. Who would park on the drive? Crazy behaviour.

idiotfacelicker · 05/05/2024 15:05

A friend got a ticket for parking across her own drive but got it cancelled when she proved it was her own drive, but probably depends who you get and how jobsworth they are.

LightSpeeds · 05/05/2024 15:07

This must be the most exciting thing happening today... 🤗

I'm watching this closely...

Daffyyellow · 05/05/2024 15:08

Here for the update!

Absolutely go and enjoy the fete and a glass or 2 so you’ll be unable to move the car for a while once home.

bubblesforbreakfast · 05/05/2024 15:08

A brief update (no conclusion yet sorry)

  1. We left the car as per diagram. Took plenty of photos of both cars.
  2. I am settled in at the fete, in a slightly damp gazebo drinking slightly warm white wine with friends. We are reading through all these comments and having a massive giggle. Everyone loves a drama.
  3. We didn't leave a note as my DD quite craftily pointed out - they don't know it's our car, they probably think we're a fellow CF (I've paraphrased, but genuinely proud of her deviousness)
I will post again later x

Excellent update! Can't wait for the conclusion 🤣

Billybagpuss · 05/05/2024 15:11

Ahh warm fete white wine the harbinger of headaches and inabilities to drive a car for even a little bit.

PineappleTime · 05/05/2024 15:13

A traffic warden came round when I had my car parked over my drive and was going to give a ticket until I came out and told her it was my car so you might get one. Honestly it would be worth it to me to pay £25 to really piss off a CF.
