There's a CF parked in my drive

Village fete day. Parking's a nightmare. Come back from my food shop to find some CF has parked on my drive. So I parked across my drive (dropped kerb but no double yellows or white driveway signs) to put my shopping away. Nearest proper parking is going to be a 5-10 min walk away I reckon - it's heaving! No specific AIBU but I know you lot love a parking drama.
Can I leave my car infront of the driveway and head out to the fete? It would block the car in ... but there's no note, no blue badge etc ... can I get a parking fine?
My DH thinks we should park properly and walk back in but tbh im enraged someone parked on my drive!!!

We had this many years ago on village carnival day when CFs parked across the only entrance to a courtyard thus blocking entry to/exit from 8 parking spaces.

CFs had left their car unlocked so someone got in and people pushed it away from the entrance. Just far enough that it couldn’t be seen from it’s original location and look to have disappeared to the returning CFs.

Disclaimer: probably illegal, please don’t do this.

Is 100% put nails under all their tyres. Your driveway. You are allowed to have nails on your own driveway.

Maybe leave your mobile number on a piece of paper on your dashboard with instructions to text you if they want you to come and move your car.

Should you then get a text, you can gaily walk up to your own house, up the drive past their car, unlock the front door, and then look back and say to the irate people: "Can I help you?". They will then launch into a long and angry tirade about thoughtless ignorant bad parking, at which point you can say: "Yes, I know. You've parked on my drive and it's me who's blocking you in".
Watch them squirm.

Yes I think that is a good idea

Pieceofpurplesky · 05/05/2024 14:01

The cheek of some people. Maybe they know you. Although surely anyone you know would ask. Block 'em in and make them sweat

KreedKafer · 05/05/2024 14:01

They parked ON YOUR DRIVE?! I’d do a lot worse than block them in!

ohfourfoxache · 05/05/2024 14:02

I’m with @DrJonesIpresume 🤣

tennesseewhiskey1 · 05/05/2024 14:03

Sorry I would be petty and move my car tomorrow. Some people are just too bladdy much!

Eagerly awaiting the CF parking outcome

How cheeky! Who would actually think this was ok?!

FarSideOfBlueMoon · 05/05/2024 14:05

I think legally (I am not a lawyer) the person parking on your drive has committed trespass (civil offence). If you block them in you could be causing an obstruction (parking across dropped kerb) which is technically something police could get involved with as it is criminal. Although morally pretty sure you'd have the win!!

Mums dropping there kids off and having a good long chat in our road.
Or during parents evening, plays, Christmas pantomime….etc etc etc

I doubt the police would have time to (bother to) get involved.

MagentaRocks · 05/05/2024 14:07

@FarSideOfBlueMoon yes that’s right. It is an offence to block someone from going onto a public road but not an offence to block them from coming off it, so technically the CF hasn’t committed a criminal offence but they could call the police and report an obstruction with the OP blocking them from getting out.

I very much doubt the police would have time to attend though and even if they take the details and try to resource it, it will be way down on their list of priorities. They might try and find a number for the OP though.

mmgirish · 05/05/2024 14:08

Have an alcoholic drink too so you can't drive!

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 05/05/2024 14:08

Get smashed at the fayre so you are not capable of moving your car later.

BIossomtoes · 05/05/2024 14:08

You know your husband’s going to park elsewhere, don’t you? Mine would tell me not to be so petty and move the car.

PurpleSky09 · 05/05/2024 14:10

Unbelievably cheeky of them. Glad you've blocked them in Grin

Balloonhearts · 05/05/2024 14:10

Oh I'd be out all day. I'd go to the fete then out to dinner, then come home a bit pissed and obviously unable to drive and just leave them blocked in as long as possible.

PotterHead1985 · 05/05/2024 14:10

Ooh a live one. Here for this

ilovelamp82 · 05/05/2024 14:11

100% I would do the same as you. I'll never understand how people do stuff like this. Enjoy your day. And deffo have a couple of wines so you can't drive.

BitOutOfPractice · 05/05/2024 14:12

I will definitely chip in if there’s a fine op.

TheWonderhorse · 05/05/2024 14:15

Oof you'd have to be a psychopath to do park on someone's actual drive, and then go off and enjoy yourself knowing you're likely to come back when people are home.

Absolute psycho behaviour.

shenandoahvalley · 05/05/2024 14:16

I cannot wrap my head around the thought process of Cfs like this. Which is why I think this is likely to be someone you know, or at least someone who thinks they know you. It’ll be the most vague of connections, but still someone who could say to their passengers after 15 mins of driving around and not finding a spot, “oh, Susan won’t mind, she’s probably gone out for the day”.

dreadisabaddog · 05/05/2024 14:16

I'm invested enough in this to chip in if you do get fined OP, as long as you report back 😂

Kimmeridge · 05/05/2024 14:16

Personally I would phone the police if they have actually parked uninvited as they are trespassing - it's tantamount to breaking into your house

It's absolutely nothing like them breaking into her house. What an absolutely bizarre comparison
