There's a CF parked in my drive

Village fete day. Parking's a nightmare. Come back from my food shop to find some CF has parked on my drive. So I parked across my drive (dropped kerb but no double yellows or white driveway signs) to put my shopping away. Nearest proper parking is going to be a 5-10 min walk away I reckon - it's heaving! No specific AIBU but I know you lot love a parking drama.
Can I leave my car infront of the driveway and head out to the fete? It would block the car in ... but there's no note, no blue badge etc ... can I get a parking fine?
My DH thinks we should park properly and walk back in but tbh im enraged someone parked on my drive!!!

I livi in Islington - parking wardens are Demons - but do you actually have any in a village, on a bank holiday weekend?

Iloveacurry · 05/05/2024 14:18

Great diagram! Hope you left the car there ….

Mountainpika · 05/05/2024 14:18

Reminds me of the thread ages ago about someone who'd parked on someone's property. Somehow ended up with a discusssion on Yorkshire puddings, if I remember correctly.

dizzydizzydizzy · 05/05/2024 14:19

Settling down with popcorn. Can't wait to hear the end.

Sounds like massive CFery.

Angrymum22 · 05/05/2024 14:19

Is there a public announcement system at the fete? If so ask them to announce that the car -reg no.- needs to return to their car urgently, then add whatever you want.

When someone left a car on my BIL farmland he used a fork lift to move it, straight through the windows and lifted it by the roof onto the road. They had left it after attending an illegal party in one of their empty barns. The party had caused a lot of damage.

CJ0374 · 05/05/2024 14:20

Leave a note on their car:

Hola CF,
We have gone to Majorca for 2 weeks 😂

Americano75 · 05/05/2024 14:21

We'll all chip in to cover any fine!

Personally I would phone the police if they have actually parked uninvited as they are trespassing - it's tantamount to breaking into your house

It's absolutely nothing like them breaking into her house. What an absolutely bizarre comparison

In both cases it's entering someone's private property without permission. So hardly a 'bizarre' comparison. I assume you must be someone who parks at will on other people's driveways?

ItsFuckingBoringFeedingEveryoneUntilYouDie · 05/05/2024 14:23

Looking forward to checking in on this thread later, after I have had wine at my local fete.
Won't need to drive, have left my car on someone's driveway. 😚

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 05/05/2024 14:26

do you have a big garden? Can you get a ton of manure delivered for gardening purposes and dumped at the end of your drive, blocking in the CF?

<possibly a rather expensive form of revenge but possibly worth it >

The difference would be the actual breaking in. Just being on someone's property is not a criminal offence, neither is leaving a belonging there

widgitfidgit · 05/05/2024 14:26

I'm hoping no one would really be this cheeky and it's a mistake, for example Jean at number 8 said her cousin could use her drive and they have the wrong house.

DramaAlpaca · 05/05/2024 14:27

Oh I do love a live parking thread.

<settles in>

ThinWomansBrain · 05/05/2024 14:27

Once worked for an organisation that had a private access road - police wouldn't turn out for trespassing CF parkers that blocked access.
When I reported an abandoned car that had signs of involvement with drugs/gangs (very chavvy number plate amongst other things) they were there with sirens & blue lights. Were cagey about it, but uncovered a load of guns.

So - probably not the case with your CF, but don't bother calling the police for trespass as suggested by a PP.
Print this tread out & leave it on their windowscreen.

gamerchick · 05/05/2024 14:27

I always block them in me.

RedBananas12 · 05/05/2024 14:28

Oooh I love these threads. Settling in for an update!

I’d also put a photo of village Facebook page, “love fête day! I don’t remember doing the raffle - but maybe I did as it appears that I’ve won a car!”

Please do this!

amicissimma · 05/05/2024 14:33

Are the parking enforcement people even working today? Or tomorrow, being a Bank Holiday?

DrJoanAllenby · 05/05/2024 14:33

Block them and leave a note asking them to phone your son on XXXX number as you have gone on holiday for a fortnight and he will come and move your car as you've given him the key.

The XXXX number will of course be something amusing to you such as London Zoo.

NeedToBeStrongStepAway · 05/05/2024 14:35

I'd block them in and say husbands has the keys and he's gone to a work trip till Tues

writingsonthewall · 05/05/2024 14:37

StormingNorman · 05/05/2024 13:21

I’ll be annoyed with you if you don’t leave your car there 😂

Same

MamaSleep · 05/05/2024 14:38

Can’t wait for the update, OP!

Love a good parking thread.

We live on a private road that all the residents chipped in to employ a parking management company as we are near the station. Never mind that there is a paid for car park at the station and a free car park a mile away with a park and ride servicing it, we get commuters and people going on holiday for however long. So people parking inconsiderately really piss me off.

One left her car for about 10 days in our neighbour's clearly designated spot right under the parking management sign (another neighbour happened to see her get out of it with her suitcase and head for the station). So a neighbour with a tractor towed it to the nearest road and left it there right in the middle so it ended up being impounded. I don't recommend that as it is more than likely illegal but fuck me it was funny.

[I highly recommend never parking like a CF on a private road that is monitored.... you may think the parking company only drops in every now and then but trust me.... all the neighbours are monitoring it closely and in our case we just send pictures into the company and they issue the fines without even leaving their office].

fashionqueen0123 · 05/05/2024 14:38

Glad you’ve blocked them in, here for the outcome!

BoohooWoohoo · 05/05/2024 14:39

I love a live cf parking thread.

I would leave a note in the window, park across your drive and go out.

It’s times like this that it’s unfortunate that we aren’t like certain states in the US and can get the car towed for parking on a stranger’s land.
