There's a CF parked in my drive

Village fete day. Parking's a nightmare. Come back from my food shop to find some CF has parked on my drive. So I parked across my drive (dropped kerb but no double yellows or white driveway signs) to put my shopping away. Nearest proper parking is going to be a 5-10 min walk away I reckon - it's heaving! No specific AIBU but I know you lot love a parking drama.
Can I leave my car infront of the driveway and head out to the fete? It would block the car in ... but there's no note, no blue badge etc ... can I get a parking fine?
My DH thinks we should park properly and walk back in but tbh im enraged someone parked on my drive!!!

I would definitely block them in. What cfs!

Trolleysaregoodforemployment · 05/05/2024 13:43

Park there and head to the fete. Only a CF would park across someone's driveway!

I know someone this happened to about 15 years ago, someone parked on his drive while they went to pick up their child from school. He blocked them in, then when they returned told them he'd charge them £50 to move his car. The woman was quite indignant, made up all types of excuses and said she'd be calling her husband to come down. He just replied " well tell him to bring his mates too and I'll be charging an additional £50 for every half hour". The woman's husband turned up pretty swiftly and paid him £50 to move his car and had a right go at his wife for parking on a strangers drive!! Not something I'd recommend but quite amusing! To be fair if you knew the bloke you'd not have argued with him!

Don’t move it! Go to the fete and enjoy, drink lots there and stay out all day. Or come back, sit in your house, drink more and wait.

Edited

Love this one 🤣🤣🤣 Is the CFs car actually ON the drive of your house?!!!! Fucking liberty

peakygold · 05/05/2024 13:45

My friend experienced (or so she thought) all of this. It turned out her DH had listed their drive on a parking website, and the person had parked there legitimately 😂

@Superlambaanana

"Personally I would phone the police if they have actually parked uninvited as they are trespassing - it's tantamount to breaking into your house! "

Trespass isn't a criminal offence so police won't get involved (unfortunately!).

MercyDulb0ttle · 05/05/2024 13:47

I can’t wait til the update on this 😊

I’d also put a photo of village Facebook page, “love fête day! I don’t remember doing the raffle - but maybe I did as it appears that I’ve won a car!”

Brilliant 😁

Oh that’s a very good point! OP check if someone else has listed your drive on JustPark. Or possibly another one nearby and there’s been a mixup.

PBandJ111 · 05/05/2024 13:48

Block them in!

SavingTheBestTillLast · 05/05/2024 13:48

You can’t get a parking fine.
Yes just enjoy your day and leave your car where it is.
They are trespassing on your land

Agree with @BranchGold re getting car Ref.

Cysco · 05/05/2024 13:48

Ooh looking forward to the outcome !

RamblingAroundTheInternet · 05/05/2024 13:49

Yes OP go out but don’t stay out for longer than you want to. Go home when you want, if CF is waiting, state you’ll move the car when ready and go inside for a few hours. Do the same when they turn up if later on.

They can call the police and tell them they parked on a strangers drive!

Take pictures/video and post on community Facebook page to see if anyone knows the culprit.

I’d probably stick a few big nails into a few of the tyres too!

CJ0374 · 05/05/2024 13:50

Around us, we have a CF car parking site. I'd take pics and even if you don't post them, you have evidence of CF in case things kick off or they claim their car was damaged etc.

Elsewhere123 · 05/05/2024 13:51

Hope your MIL hasn't bought a new car.

SquashPenguin · 05/05/2024 13:51

Please block the cunt in 🤣 If they ask you to move later on tell them you’ve had a drink and can’t drive!

They're fair game too.

Here for the updates 😬

DomingoinLittleOakley · 05/05/2024 13:56

This happened to me once - it turned out to be the people who were viewing the house next door. Which had its own driveway with room for 3 cars (completely empty as the neighbour had died several months earlier).
I parked across the drive and blocked them in, then walked to pick my children up from school and took a very circuitous route home via a local cafe for a surprise tea.
When I came home about 1.5 hours later, I ignored them sitting in their car, took the children inside and waited. A few minutes later there was a knock at the door and some bloke complaining that I'd blocked him in! Luckily my children then decided to start a fight and were screaming blue murder, so I excused myself to go and deal with it and said I'd move my car when I'd sorted them out.
That took a good 15 minutes and when I finally came out and asked them why they thought it would be OK to park on my drive, was told the estate agent had said it would be fine! "But you are viewing a house that has an empty 3 car driveway, why didn't you park there?" He just said "Look, you've made your point, can you let us go now please?"
Funnily enough, they didn't buy the house.

VeronicaBeccabunga · 05/05/2024 13:57

I'm sure I'm not the only MNer who will be checking back for updates and will happily chip in to help pay your parking fine, should you get one.

There is a Facebook page called 'Shite Parking Watch UK' with the intro
'Here to shame bad parking and laugh at the people who try to defend it.'

Just saying!

StaySpicy · 05/05/2024 13:57

Can't believe someone would think this is okay! Hope you're enjoying the fete, OP, and I look forward to your update when you get back!

Beatrixslobber · 05/05/2024 13:57

Finders keepers. Congrats, you have a new car.

Spray it a different colour so that they are super confused when they return.

@Superlambaanana

"Personally I would phone the police if they have actually parked uninvited as they are trespassing - it's tantamount to breaking into your house! "

Trespass isn't a criminal offence so police won't get involved (unfortunately!).

I've just looked it up and I am gobsmacked to discover you are right. It is not illegal to park on someone's private driveway. Unbelievable!!

The person is not committing any criminal offence. It may be possible to pursue a civil case against them but obviously that would be costly for the homeowner.

It's also not advisable to have the car removed by a tow truck as the homeowner could be liable for any damage caused in the process.

This is outrageous. Surely there should be a law against this as obviously people will just do what they want otherwise!!

DrJonesIpresume · 05/05/2024 13:59

Maybe leave your mobile number on a piece of paper on your dashboard with instructions to text you if they want you to come and move your car.

Should you then get a text, you can gaily walk up to your own house, up the drive past their car, unlock the front door, and then look back and say to the irate people: "Can I help you?". They will then launch into a long and angry tirade about thoughtless ignorant bad parking, at which point you can say: "Yes, I know. You've parked on my drive and it's me who's blocking you in".
Watch them squirm.
